The MSI RTX 4090 Suprim Liquid X gives us our first look at a watercooled RTX 40-series GPU. It uses a 240mm AIO but retains an active fan on the shroud to cool the VRM. As Dominic finds out however, the attention to detail is lacking... Read the written article here: bit.ly/3MRtflR

Very detailed review KG! I think the Palit one is my favourite you have reviewed so far. love the RGB madness, - did you try that card with a riser? shame you can't see it in most systems
@KitGuruTech
@KitGuruTech Жыл бұрын
No i didn't, i'm not sure using a riser with that card is the best idea tbh - you'd need a very wide case to accommodate it, otherwise the fans could get choked when pressed up against the side panel

Main reason for me getting this, was the silent operation. Using an open headset, it's fantastic to remove ambient noise.

Thanks for this feature rich in depth review 🤩 Dom 🥰👍. Can always count on KitGuru to find the niggling issues of a product like this, the screw length for case mounting of the radiator being one of them 😏😡. MSI deserve credit creating a long forgotten dual-slot GPU which we haven’t seen for a couple generations on the high end 🤓😢.

I am currently planning on building with a Cooler Master HAF XB EVO and was thinking of having this GPU. The case supports a 200mm fan on top which I would use for exhaust and use the radiator as intake fans. At least that was my idea. I guess I better buy some additional screws to mount the radiator the way I want it. Thanks for the insight.

@KitGuruTech Heya Thanks for the review. Great job. I was considering on getting this card due to space requirements on the motherboard. Could you give me your thoughts further on the radiator setup? I have AIO for the CPU in the top. My case manual states that the front of the case will accommodate 120MM form factor radiators for up to 240MM. I presume then that this card's radiator could fit in the front of my case (my only option). But , it' may be tight. Since I can't find anywhere on MSI stating the 'FORM FACTOR' of the radiator. I'm a bit concerned. Is it something you know? PLUS, does it matter if the tubes on the radiator are on the bottom, as long as the radiator itself goes above the GPU card pump? Which orientation is preferable if you had a choice? THanks!

Super nice video, thumbed up BUT, bruh, you put your GPU AIO upside down, the pipes on the radiator side should be put as low as possible or you'll get bubbles that keep getting into your circuit, which isn't good
@Matt-gf4gd
@Matt-gf4gd Жыл бұрын
I'm not a huge fan of GPU AIOs, but they're kinda cool of the price is right. The price on this one in particular seems really good for what you get and it looks pretty good to boot. I think it'll sell well given it makes it a 2 slot card for 9% more than the FE (in U.S.) and probably much easier to actually buy at MSRP versus the FE.
@hrod9393
@hrod9393 Жыл бұрын
I'm divided on this. These days we don't really tax the CPU enough in gaming to warrant a water cooler. I feel like if anything, we'd want to be able to enhanced our GPU's over CPU. Although it does make it a 2 slot, finding a spot for the radiator could be more hassle for some people. I've chosen to now just mount my GPU externally and remove it when I transport my PC. Also the FE isn't normally available unless you with the GeForce XP lottery.

I wonder why no company decides to release full coverage blocked 1-slot solution, with the power and liquid ports all situated on the shorter side, opposite the video outs... Nearly every solution out there uses "top-mounted" ports or top placed tubing, making them either impossible for SFF or pretty hard to fit with the tubing. And yet in server space we already had full coverage, mobo+cpu+sxmgpus, blocks that manage to cool everything and keep the profile low. Maybe once such a manufacturer arrived at the desktop space we'd have seen a full coverage mitx/matx boards, originally thin and fully covered gpu pcbs, all playing nice with each other and allowing for denser builds... Heck, if Alphacool or EK or Barrows got together wih the manufacturers, given many have branches for both mobos and gpus, they might have prepped a truly interesting solution, with eg. combined option of extendable rads + pumps + blocks to create something unique on the market without voiding the warranty or extra work... costs may not be as prohibiting a factor, nowadays we're already seeing boards costing nearly $1k, gpus meanwhile, as in this example, easily get to $2.5k levels so the extra costs any thoroghbred out-of-the-box liquid cooled set, that could work together and eg. fit in SFF cases such as NR200 or similes with space for 2 rads to cool everything efficiently, brought would have been lost in the overall scheme of costs.

RGB lighting is cool but unnecessary. But given how much these things cost then maybe its a little bit more value for money. Still two grand though. For a (top of the line but still) graphics card!!

Wait they only give you 4 screws to mount the radiator? That is extremely stupid.

I like MSI products, but this seems to be a pretty good 4090 PCB with a poor mounting system and a good cooler on it. at more than 2 grand. Am I missing something?

"best 4090 temps" thats a lie for a few reasons 1: if you are front mounting you are just dumping all that heat into your case in the direction of the GPU 2: I have the Gigabyte AIO 4090 and never seen about 60c
@DragRacingTV
@DragRacingTV 9 ай бұрын
no, the default configuration from the factory is pushing the air thru the cooler and out the front of the case... you'll need a case with enough fan intakes to compensate.

Never liked MSi cards … I would rather go for another AIB, thanks for the video … If Gigabyte and EVGA put a 360 on a 3090 don’t know how MSI think they can get away with a 240mm radiator on a 4090. Testing shows air or that AIO same same

Never going to buy an msi card again. The 6900XT that I own had ridiculous high junction temps and died after two months. Bought an 6950 XT and that died in two weeks. They didn't even replaced the card, I just got my money back.

Since MSI rejected my 1080ti gaming x warranty because of cooler fins being bent ( how I got it ) I will never buy MSi Again

MSI, Zotac, and gigabyte have a long history of heating and quality control issues. If evga hadnt left the market I would be looking at them. But now its basically asus or gigabyte for me. And asus has by far the better costumer support.

Maybe in the future GPUs might recycle the heat using a glowing metal crystal that upscales heat into photovoltaic energies or used to get a sun tan for gamers that never leave the house playing games that takes weeks to complete .

Good review Dominic - its a fantastic looking board IMO, I love the cooler design, very understated. If they reduced the price a bit it might make more sense, seems excessive even in todays world.

My last experience with MSI was a disaster, I had fans fail on my 3080 and 3070 cards. They should rename them from GALE to GARBAGE.

AIO's are totally useless with 4000 series since the air coolers are so overbuilt.... and way less reliable.

So finally: Dont buy it. Temp.´s too high, copper plate with screwed extensions (= design error one!) Lol. Newer ever seen before copper extensions. Coil wine. The fan does not blow fresh/cool air to the components that need it most (= design error two). And all of this for such an amount of money?! NO!
This is the most BEAUTIFUL RTX 4090 yet...
