Always informative &/or timely! I've a similar problem, cropped up when we went away for a few days, and the timer on the lights didn't work as planned. 125 hours of light later, two of my tanks were almost engulfed, and even a month later it's still coming back. I'm battling green/brown hair algae in a couple of my tanks right now; removing by hand, taking out driftwood and soaking in scalding hot water, hydrogen peroxide dips for plants, and it's still coming back. Biggest regrowth is in the Spec V holding my older son's betta, with an anubias, java fern, and a corkscrew val, and a big, beautiful piece of Mopani that's algae central. I'm going to try bathing the mopani in the hydrogen peroxide next. I don't know yet if Ruby could handle tank mates, but a few amanos may be in order...

Girl I feel ya. My new 29 gallon is starting to look like this. I am at a loss at to what to do at this point. I have tried dosing excel but I dose it at 25% of what is needed because I have painted fire cherry shrimp in there and I don't want to hurt them. I do see them eating the algae, but there are only 7 of them in there so there's no way they can keep up with it. I'm thinking about taking it all down and starting over with some fast growing stem plants so it won't happen again. Thanks for sharing this as I think a lot of us have had this issue.

Hi Rachel, we love your video's. All your tanks are beautiful. I also wanted to tell you we had a tank that also kept having extreme algea conditions, tried almost everything incl chemicals, nothing helped until we moved it to a different location in our living room, never had a problem with it again. We have since discoverd that there is some kind of electrcal or other current that runs through a certain area of our house where the tank first was. It causes havok on the clock, tv and pc. I also tried a smaller tank there and same problem as the first with algea. Maybe your tank is also hinderd by some kind of current? Thx for sharing and have a great day😃

Love those tiny crablets!! Would love to see some footage of them eating the powdered food. You inspired me to start a small tub pond this year, and I’m so psyched to have a leopard frog calling it home now! He sits on one of the plant baskets and I’ve seen him in the same spot for the last 7 days. He doesn’t even flinch when I feed my little koi! Now that fall is in the air, would you mind doing a video on how you prepare your carnivorous bog garden and your tubs for winter? I heard the water lilies stay outside for the winter and will come back. Just not sure where to put them. I really love your videos, Rachel. You have so much knowledge to share on so many interesting critters and other topics!
@RachelOLeary
@RachelOLeary 5 жыл бұрын
I will absolutely be doing those things- the bog its not until near the first frost. The tubs will start in the next couple weeks. I use the same temp threshold for moving them in as I do for moving them out. Here, its still 70-80s daytimes and around 60 overnight, and is forecast like that until the last week of September. If you need immediate info, I have documented it as well in previous years and I have the total playlist on my home page. I move all my lilies indoors- I cut off all their foliage, and wrap them in black trash bags and put them someplace cool (I have done it in my basement, in my greenhouse, and underneath the overturned tub).

@@BatmanPwnage its green water. A unicellular algae that lives in the water column. Ita pretty much impossible to get rid of exept with either live dafnia or a powerful UV sterilizer. It usually pops up when there is a lot of light or a lot of nutrients. I would move the tank inside. If its a glass tank and the temperatures at night was kinda cold i would worry about the silicon schrinking and leaking.
