Watch the PH of the dirt/soil/media in those concrete tubs! Especially if the dirt has been in there for more then one season. The concrete will make the PH rise in the soil in those tubs eventually. And are they drain hole(s) equipped?? Anyway, I learned about the perils of concrete tubs many years ago. And I enjoy your vids!!!

Looking excellent! I got my tub set up last week. We're having unseasonably cool spring weather for southern CA. My daytime high tub water temp is 76, but the overnight low tub temp is in the 50's. So still way too cold for Neocaridina and Guppies. I'm getting so excited though! I want it to warm up, which is a huge change for me. I much prefer cooler temps. Of course the year I decide to start tubbing earlier is the year of unseasonably, nearly record cool temps. 😆

Great Video Rachael. I learn so much from your channel, ... THANK YOU! When you pulled in your fish last season, you pulled in your White Clouds saying it would be to cold for them to over winter. FYI: I left mine out in a 55g HDX tub surrounded by cinder blocks with 8" of hay between them and the tub. Also I put clear saran wrap on the top with a few small slits for air exchange. I recorded the temps until 95% of the tub iced over for about a month. When the ice cleared, ... ALL 10 survived and look fantastic. They are larger and more colorful than their tank-mates I kept inside. The water hyacinth was dead but still floating. Lowest repeating temps I recorded hovered in around 36°F. Try a few next winter.

Could you tell me why imported solid red cherry shrimp from (big national) pet shops always have babies that are uncolored to barely colored? It seems like if they had such terrible color then the parents would lose their color when they molt, but their color looks even better, if anything, after they molt.
@RachelOLeary5 жыл бұрын
because they are produced en masse in big ponds with little quality control so the offspring are often not nearly as nice as the parents picked to sell for their color.

What's the max temp of the tubs during the daytime? I know that neos are tolerant of a wider range of parameters, but I was curious how they fare with the higher temps I'm assuming occurs within your greenhouse as the sun rises higher in the day and heat is retained within the structure.

Do you do some sort of thunder prevention for your tubs?
@RachelOLeary5 жыл бұрын
I am not sure what you mean? Or do you mean for heavy rainfall? The top of the tubs are drilled, but the reality is, when it is raining hard, all the fish go to the bottom, so even if the tubs overflow, I have never had it be an issue. The only time I have had a problem is when I had a tub elevated, and we had a hurricane. It got SO full, it became off balance and fell over- which was a design flaw.
