@tudorjason You are NOT wrong there. I personally think this was the best album she ever made, not just because of the different musical styles she has on it. But because of the social messages concerning the state of the world at that time and not much has changed even now. The legacy that this album left behind can still be felt 30 years later, trust me I know. I went to see Janet on the Rhythm Nation 1814 world tour at Wembley Arena in London UK. Although I'm more old school heavy rock/metal nowadays, I can tell you without a doubt the Rhythm Nation 1814 world tour was the best gig I ever went to and none of the metal gigs I've been to over the years even comes close to it. 👍

@@shawnhall9792 I know they used the same elevator in Rhythm Nation but "If" was clearly influenced by Blade Runner. Replace the red filter with blue and it would easily slip into that world as a high end night club. Also Dominic Sena said he took inspiration when the video was originally released and since he directed both RN and If, the inspiration is obvious.

Also the "Feedback " video did not use milk as a reference, it was both an inference to a biologically generated substance (easy to determine what it is without saying out loud here) used in procreation (due to the suggestive nature of the song) and Non Newtonian fluids that have been used for sound and audio demonstrations like oobleck ( a ratio of 1.5 to 2 parts cornstarch/starch to 1 part water, sometimes dyed for effect), that is put in a container of some kind over speakers which when played provides a visual display of sound waves, or feedback if you will).

I saw her perform that song during the Rhythm Nation 1814 World Tour and it was amazing. I'm an old school heavy rock/metal fan and I can tell you that on one occasion even Lemmy from Motorhead (god rest his soul) not only loved that song, he even wanted to do a duet with Janet, but Sony records said no. Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 is easily Janet's best era as well as her 2nd most successful era. This list is reflective of that. She has 5 music videos featured from the RN 1814 era (4 made the official list and 1 was an honorable mention). All of them except Come Back To Me and Black Cat pretty much. Personally, I would switch Escapade with Alright because Alright had a better music video with far more memorable choreography. Other than that, I completely agree with this list.
@kenthuang4363 жыл бұрын
I like to say that era actually started with Nasty and Pleasure Principle. The Control album showed that Janet could become a superstar in her own right without relying on Michael’s name or her father.

@@kenthuang436 The Pleasure Principle is a prelude to Rhythm Nation 1814, just like Love Will Never Do (Without You) is a prelude to janet. However, those songs and videos are very much in the Control and RN 1814 eras, respectively.
