Vanessa is winning. She still collects royalties from a hit that's nearly 20 years old that pay for all things music in her life. She can tour when she wants, put out albums when she wants and then go back home to her husband & daughter and live a normal life. Smart. Her last three albums have been impeccable ('Liberman' is her 'Hounds of Love'). For me, I find her exciting & fascinating because each album is different and stronger in different ways ("Miner's Canary" off her latest record is sublime)

"White Houses" is my favorite track from Vanessa! It's a beautiful song, in my opinion. It's one that I actually had to record from my VCR on MTV because I liked the video so much! And yes, it was censored, unfortunately...but these were the years before KZbin (2004), so I had no choice! "Pretty Baby" is my second favorite mainstream track! Her "Harmonium" album was a great one...too bad it wasn't played more in the mainstream.

A thousand miles was just the song that got her hard core fans hooked! Have you seen her in concert? It is far different from the videos or albums. Instead of a pop/commercial feel, you really get a sense of how great she is with her playing piano and Sky on the violin. I saw her in a small theater in Hollywood and it was an amazing concert.

I think most people thought of her as a one hit happy pop wonder with the overblown success of 1000 Miles and didn't bother to actually give her a shot. Her b-sides and filler tracks have always been darker and in my opinion, far better than 1000 Miles. Rinse, Sway, unsung, etc. All amazing.
