I wonder if they'll keep doing more new-ish songs because their were a lot of 00's hits I've always wondered about. Controls, more like. All I could see was her mom trying to control the narrative, *visibly disagreeing* with every single thing Vanessa said... Can you even imagine how difficult that would be? That is not even close to being supportive... Literally, while Vanessa is saying, "I mean, I'm sure somewhere someone doesn't like it" (which is an OBJECTIVE FACT), her mom is staunchly and just RUDELY shaking her head no in disagreement, or just before that, when Vanessa is trying to express her own feelings an dher own thoughts on the matter, HER OWM FEELINGS, her mom *RUDELY INTERRUPTS* and says, "Well here is how I FELT ABOUT IT!"... WHAT THE HELL? THAT IS *NOT* SUPPORT! IT'S CONTROL! I can completely understand this poor woman, being controlled her entirely childhood, then having this opportunity to define herself, her path forward, and the record label takes it away, even now, her mom is still trying to control the narrative... It's disgusting to see. But hey, I've always been an advocate of letting people choose their own path, so maybe I am completely in the wrong. I probably wouldn't know if I were. 🤷♂️

My oldest sister died of cancer in July 2002 at 42 years of age. As the oldest male in my family I was expected to be everyone's rock through the day of her funeral. I remember leaving the cemetery alone in my car when "A Thousand Miles" came on the radio. The lyrics "'Cause you know I'd walk a thousand miles just to see you tonight" brought all of my bottled up emotions to the surface and I cried harder than I think I have ever cried in my life. I missed my sister terribly and it was the first time since she passed that I was able to express any emotion about it. That song came at the right time and allowed me to grieve for my sister. Thank you for this song, Vanessa. As I type this almost 19 years later, I'm crying again, and still missing her.

There is absolutely no shame in “one hit wonder.” One hit wonders unite people all over the world. The skill and talent it takes to make a song that’s infectious and has a beautiful and memorable melody, and is three minutes... it’s so hard. Most people have none in them. Some people only have one and that’s hard enough. The world is better because of that song.

I lost my older sister to a brain tumor recently and every day is a battle getting through the day because she wasn't just like a mother to me, she was my mom because we were abandoned. I lost her 4 years ago and every single time I hear "A Thousand Miles" all I can do is smile. I don't cry from happy tears and I don't sob or anything like that. I just listen to the song, and, I can imagine myself teleported back in time to when my sister decided to do a cover of this song for her 2nd grade talent show. My sister chose this song because our father recently abandoned our family and left forever. The teachers and friends/family in the audience knew who she was singing the song for, so, a couple of the teachers who were close to my 8yr old sister started crying and balling their eyes out. My sister ended up getting a whole gymnasium cheering, rooting, and sobbing for her. I just remember sitting there and seeing how happy my sister was when everybody embraced her singing. She was so nervous. I love this song with all my heart. I myself, like Terry Crews, can join him in saying this song without a doubt changed my life for the better forever. Thank you, Vanessa Carlton. I was 3 when the song released, 6 when my sister sung it, and 24 today. I'm sure this song will continue being a piece of warmth with me for the rest of my life.

Thousand miles brings back those feelings when I was this little teenage girl, full of excitement, zest for life and dreaming big because dreaming was all I had and music was my escapism. I was hurting deep down and my family life was terrifying, living with an abusive father in a dysfunctional family. This song made me feel better, like I belong and that I'm lovable and I'll meet the love of my life and I will be far away, thousand miles away from the hurt and the pain I had to endure as a kid. I don't think Vanessa is necessarily being negative. Too self critical yes but not negative. She seems like a real down to earth singer-songwriter artist who was never quite comfortable with how big she became after A Thousand Miles. She wrote the song when she was very young and had a massive crush on that Julliard actor, so it may feel for her now like she keeps on ripping a page out of an old diary. It's raw and naked and she's grown up a lot ever since. She's still trying to reconcile the song that she will always be remembered for will always be A Thousand Miles. That's something pretty normal and understandable with artists, especially one as independent and fierce as she is.
