But it was Leonard’s ego in landing a hot girl like Penny and his desire to get laid by her that blinded him and was a main issue that persisted throughout the show on both their parts and their relationship.

Howard's mother is very inconsistent. She tells him to move out, but then she's angry with him when she thinks he's going to. She cuts his food up, takes him to the dentist etc,, but berates him for being childish. She refers to Bernadette rather insultingly as "the little Polish girl" & "the little Catholic girl", yet also says she's lovely.

Penny's last name was secretly revealed in Season 2, episode 18: The Work Song Nanocluster. That was the episode where she made her "Penny Blossoms" flower barrettes. In the episode, Sheldon delivered a package of her materials for making the barrettes, and her full name (Penny Teller) is on the package. It was a blink and you'll miss it moment.

Penny says that she's said "I love you" too soon before. Another issue is that she's never anywhere near as into Leonard as vice versa. He's her steady, boring, reliable guy to fall back on when her flings with her attached lovers are over. She knows she isn't going to have a future with someone like TJ, whose name she never found out. She also knows he's unlikely to have opportunities to cheat.

The spoiler thing reminds me of the time when TESB was first released. I had read the novel already (having no hope whatsoever of getting to a first-run screening) so I did know what was coming when the movie finally came to our little grindhouse theater...but never would I have spoiled it for anyone else! However...there was a magazine called _Starlog_ which I bought on a regular basis, and in the letters section (about 6 months after the movie's release date) was a tale of woe from someone who had deliberately put himself in the no-media zone so he could be completely surprised by _Empire_ when he finally got to see it. All that work, and somebody stops by his desk one morning to inform him that Darth Vader was Luke's father. The poor guy's final sentence: "Did you ever see a grown man cry?"

It is such an important question that even Weird Al Yankovic felt it worth a mention on his hit song "White and Nerdy". If memory serves, the lyrics state, from the point of view of the Nerd in question, "the onlky question, I ever though was hard, was do I like Kirk, or do I like Picard?" Sadly, he gave no answer to that, hedging his bets with the Nerd in question having a portrait of both Captains over his bed. Personally, I've always favoured Picard more. Second, and I know it doesn't fit the narrative of the segment, but what about Sisko?!! Yes, he started his show as a lowly commander, but ended up being, along side Mile O'Brien, one of the key players in the Dominion War. (Sorry, massive geek here). It is always possible the episode featured int he segment occurred before Voyager and DS9 began, but still.

In regards to penny, I honestly don’t think she’s that amazing, I always thought Bernadette was prettier in a “traditional” sense, but Penny was the “ideal” comic book drawing girl.. And how did Leonard end up with her? She slept with all the gorgeous guys to satisfy her desire for an attractive partner and then figured out she wanted a real relationship where emotion was more important than looks 🤷🏻‍♀️ She was a really sweet person in the beginning, and in later seasons we saw that occasionally still, but if they hadn’t played up her “selfish” side later (that I think they just made up for drama) it would’ve made more sense.

The actors playing Penny and Leonard dated for 2-3 years so I gather even tho (obviously) JG is not a “nerd” (that we know of) he does basically look the same and the actress Kalie fell hard for him so it’s not always looks. For example, I find intelligence extremely attractive on a man. Superficially, I may look at men and decide who I think is most attractive, but once I hear them speak (like in interviews; clearly, the characters they play are not who they are) I get a better sense of how much more or less I like them. Edit: I forgot to mention: While Sheldon does have (to others) annoying quirks[Im not living w him] he’s of course highly intelligent, and has an innocence that is almost painful to watch. (And yes, I am one of those ppl who believe that Sheldon is on the spectrum. And I believed this before, in Young Sheldon, they had the twins evaluated & it became clear that while Sheldon’s academic IQ was off the charts, he had no sense of emotional IQ whatsoever.) In any case, I actually edited bc while Leonard had 12 yrs to learn, grow, adapt, basically he could have made his group of friends larger or he could have had separate friends (there’s a joke about that on the show “Friends”), etc. But other than attempting to find different GFs, Leonard made no effort (that the audience saw) anyway, to make or keep new friendships. Like wasn’t he on that boating trip for 5 months? (I could easily be wrong. I watched the show for Sheldon.) How was it possible that he he came back from that with not one new friend with whom he kept in touch? That we heard about? Before one continuously drags Sheldon down, keep in mind that he never grew his group of friends from start to finish. Indeed the on.y way his group got larger was bc Howard started dating (then married Bernadette) & Sheldon started not dating (and then married Amy). Bc he had changed the paradigm of their relationship. Wow, their dirty talk was wild! Also, and this is most important. Not that Sheldon saved his life. Not that Sheldon saved him from continuing to date a N Korean spy or that SheLDon never told anybody about that. Most importantly, Sheldon was practically a replicate of Leonard’s mother and he was, of course, attracted to that type of person. 🥰
