Judge Merchan has done an impeccable job with an incredibly difficult defendant. I think this is a wise move - if he had sentenced Trump before the election, Trump would have used the sentence, whatever it was, to play the martyr. And it's the oddest thing, but I'd swear San Francisco is still there, not looking destroyed at all. In spite of all those poor people getting wrapped. And Lincoln, if he were around, might argue that being murdered amounts to being treated worse than being prosecuted for crimes you are found guilty of having committed. No one who's rooting for justice likes this decision, but when you consider what his followers have already done, you can't underestimate them a second time. If you jail trump before the election, all that happens is you give them the most obvious "election interference" (in quotes because it wouldn't actually be interference, it would be justice ). Last time the election was "stolen" they stormed the capitol building and threatened America's leaders, and that was just for the unproven SUGGESTION of "interference". I can't imagine what they would do if they could see something they classified as interference in real time happening on the news with their own eyes.

Alvin Bragg has wasted valuable time and resources. If there was no intention to pursue a meaningful sentence, then why even hold the trial? Trump should already be in jail, but it seems Bragg is hesitant to take decisive action and punted to the judge. New York needs a stronger DA. I’m deeply disappointed in Bragg’s handling of this case.
