There were only 6 OB-GYNs in the entire state of Idaho the last time I looked into it. Idaho is one of the worst states for women and girls to live in. Of course, there are many more states where women and girls are less safe and less valued, including Texas, Florida, etc.

My late husband was a Member of Parliament in New Zealand in the late 70s when abortion, contraception and sterilisation legislation was being voted on. He crossed the floor of the House against the legislation and made it clear in his parliamentary speech and in public that “it is not the place of any MAN to dictate to any woman what she’s entitled to do with her body”. He had also in his maiden speech to the House just the year before commented “We should endeavour at all times to seek not what is best for ourselves in today’s world, but that which is best for future generations in tomorrow’s world” - something I believe Kamala Harris stands for.

Life of the mother is not the same as health of the mother. My daughter-in-law was in a crisis pregnancy. Her health was deteriorating, but was told she was not "close enough to death" to warrant the care she needed. She was told to go home and when she got worse, they might be able to help her then. She had to go out of state for the care she needed. If this had been the daughter of one of these men, they would not stand for this type of treatment.

People don't realize that a D&C operation (referred to as abortion in certain circumstances) can save a woman's life who is hemorrhaging during a miscarriage, when the baby is already dead and her body is trying to expel it thru bleeding. They call this abortion, but it's actually a life-saving procedure for the mother. Without it, there are 2 deaths. How is that pro-life? The life of the mother counts as well. This was my situation years ago, thankfully before the abortion bans. I was able to get the surgery IMMEDIATELY, no hesitation for fear of the dr going to prison, and it saved my life.

My grandmother told me how both her mother and her aunt had "backseat abortions" in the 1930s/1940s. She told me that they were called that because some were literally performed in the backseat of a car. Both women survived, but her mother was left with severe psychological issues that caused her to be institutionalized at least twice, and her aunt was left infertile. This is what we're going back to with these laws.

My mother's best childhood friend died during a back alley abortion when she was a teenager. When my mother discovered she was pregnant herself a year later, she was too afraid to even try to get an abortion. Instead, she was sent away to have the baby, which was ripped away from her immediately after birth & then she wasn't allowed to talk about it. The whole experience scarred her emotionally for life & my siblings & I paid the price by having an emotionally scarred mother.

No one should ever have to explain to anyone why they want or need to make that choice for themselves or their own health, especially when our country doesn't provide affordable or accessible healthcare to everyone! It makes me sick how many men have so little regard for women, and care so little about women's lives! These laws are FORCING doctors to commit medical malpractice, and the lawmakers should be held criminally responsible for the illnesses and death that result from their irresponsible decisions.

Besides, those people if they help her, were facing a possible prison sentence and the loss of their medical licenses which is their livelihood and their career. What will you do in that situation? It wasn't depraved indifference, it's being not knowing what would happen if they help her. Their hands were tied because of the law in Georgia.

Many people are under the mistaken impression that Roe v. Wade "created" the right to abortion. It did not. It merely affirmed a right that women have always had, granted by the 9th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. That ruling placed a limit on that right, allowing laws to be passed that prohibited abortions past the time of viability, about 21 weeks or halfway through a normal pregnancy as they decided. Consequently, the Dobbs decision did not "overturn" Roe v. Wade but rather allowed even more restrictions on it as determined by each state. That's why a federal law is needed to permit abortions up to viability and allow after that if necessary to protect the mother's life. That's what we need to be fighting for now.

Entirely. The lawsuit was brought forward by people with no standing, and without reference to any actual plaintiff or defendant. No actual interest was at stake. Precedent was overturned entirely on the basis of theory and with blatant disregard for what the constitution actually says. Basically, it was naked legislation from the bench.
