Sir, the people you call journalists are failing you. When did the Trump team claim absolute immunity? I know that is what you have been bombarded with at every turn. What his team is claiming is “some” immunity. Some of the justices were concerned about where the president would be charged with a crime after he or she left office for their decisions as president. Another justice asked if Roosevelt should have been charged criminally for sending the Japanese to internment camps in 1942; how about Obama's drone strike that killed innocent Americans? The issue here isn't only the fake electors that Trump allegedly used to find votes but the precedents, it would set for the Presidents to come.

The Supreme Court seems to be intent on fixing a problem that does not exist. I listened to the arguments and there is a faction that wants to create a law for "all time" when the problem that exists today is unique and extraordinary. There is absolutely no need to make a general ruling. How can the Court possibly anticipate every circumstance that may arise? They want to set aside the facts of THIS case, when it is THIS case that needs to be ruled on! The system has worked for well over two hundred years and is working as it should to hold Donald Trump to account. Why would the Supreme Court be trying fixing a problem that does not exist? I would note that the Council appearing for the Government said the question of whether a President could pardon himself had NOT been determined, and he intimated that it would be against precedent! I think what they are trying to do is called "Legislating from the Bench!" But legislating is the role of Congress! At least, according to the Constitution!

They have done similar things on a variety of cases, including Dobbs. This is a rogue court. It is making legal assertions that don't even apply to the case at hand. Instead of following the law to see where it leads, they are basically making it up as they go along, trying to find a law that agrees with their twisted political ideology. In Dobbs, they used a law from the 12th century, written by a man who burned witches! Biden must take action to protect the American people from this out of line and out of control fascistic court.

I agree that that only apparent function of bringing this case was to delay Dump's DC case. It is a question that is literally beyond the reach of the SC, because the SC is supposed to interpret laws, not make them. A yes or no answer on this question would be in effect creating a law. The immunity question is already being answered by criminal proceedings in state courts with the laws already on the books. The SC should dispose of this case; it is not a question for it to answer.

SCOTUS doesn't seem to want to take a position on this case either way, because a yes or no answer as to whether a former president has immunity from unofficial acts taken while in office is going to apply to any future president. There is no getting around it. And they can't remand it back, because there is no basis for correction. It is possible that they could dismiss the petition altogether.
