MSR Elixir 3 First Impressions

I've had the elixir 3 for a few years, you can definitely get 3 tall adults inside it with standard width pads, I'd respectfully disagree and say it's a genuine 3 person tent, but everyone to their own 👍🏻 I've never had problems with leaking, and it's been in some very heavy rain, I'll be buying a 2 person version soon.

Great review and very thorough, thanks. I’ve had this tent for 2 and a half years now and love it. Used it in different guises; as a backpacking tent on my own in the Lake District and Peak District; campsite tent with my son; a family tent (3 of us) for a couple of nights when we couldn’t take our bigger tent to an off island. It withstood awful weather in North Wales, the wind and the rain meant some people were packing up and going but we were fine and the MSR was dry and robust. My son and I also camped with just the inner one night when the weather was very sunny. The mesh meant we could stargaze 😁Like you, my only gripe is the door and an extra toggle would be handy 👍🏼

Nice set up and review. I just set this tent up in my living room and as you noted MSR should have added a toggle to open the fly up completely. That would have made the fly configurations complete.

Great video, thanks a lot! I was wondering, how is the ventilation/heat in hot weather actually? Seeing how the mesh on the doors doesnt fully go down to the bottom, and neither do the mesh 'windows'. Totally agree on the need for an extra 'pin' for the door to tie it fully back, that would be great. Also something that I would like to see are pockets for the doors instead of the dog bones to tie them. Often I just want to quickly temporarily stash the door to the side, and rolling it up + tying them up is such a faff.

Verry good look at the tent. Like you said, not that many detailed reviews. I'm looking at the 4p for 3 64cm sleeping mats. It's one of the few 4p 'backpacking' options.

Any ideas on where is the cheapest place to get one in EU? Im looking to get into doing a bit more camping & would like a decent budget tent. Given the weight I might look at the Elixir 2 as well as its really just for me & maybe my son on fishing trips 👌 Good detailed review here though,thank you!

I have this exact same tent so far so good. careful using in spring ( or fall ) you must brush off snow or tent may collapse

These are brilliant tents. I have the 1 person and it is spacious with good headroom. I have the 2 person on my short list but will now consider getting the 3 man for the extra living space. Thank you for sharing.

great review man! informative at max. I just have two quick questions. 1. Your height? I can see its a lot of space inside. 104cm if I'm correct. I'm 190cm standing and around 95cm while sitting down. Don't wanna hit my head in the ceiling sitting down and I don't think I will. But just to have U as a reference. 2. Do U have had any problems with leakage lately now when ur tent is 1 year? Have read a lot of reviews where people are so frustrated of leakage in seams after just 1 or 2 years. Seams like the PU-covering in the poly separates. thnk U!

I don’t have it now, it was difficult to get in and out of. The cross pole ends are very low. I found out once I started using it.

I wonder if some users aren’t setting them up correctly and allowing the rainfly to touch the tent. My 12yr old MSR mutha hubba needs replaced after getting burn holes in its rainfly. -cheers

Do both doors in the rainfly open the same? For cross ventilation?

Yes same both sides but there is no tie back for the full door which is a bit annoying.

@@evacoutdoors5867 that is annoying and seems like an oversight especially since their older tents all seem to have attachment straps for the rolled up doors. I like how you tied it off to the fly vents
