I LOVE having a vestibule big enough to take off/put on waterproofs in! So good for keeping bedding dry. I also like the outer-first pitch. Both are so practical in wet weather. It's nice to see this design starting to be brought out by some less expensive brands.

My god, a two person tent with ample room for two! It's like my Vango grew up and finally reached it's potential. Tunnel tents, virtually indestructable. As much as I love my old Vango, it's been on the retirement list for a while now, it has served with honour through many a storm/downpour, been my safe refuge for almost 30 years, a well earned retirement in the back garden might beckon and I'm sure I've just seen it's replacement. Cheers Paul, 'endeavor to persevere' but don't think about it and then make war on the white man! I doth covet thine tent!

I've been looking forward to this since the first reveal. Thanks for reviewing it or showing it to us. It will be my purchase this year, perfect for Kayak camping offshore, with loads of space inside for bad weather days. Very happy to see the outer pitch instead of my current MSR tents. I wouldn't bring this for backpacking one nighters in mountains, it is big . . . .but it will be my kayak camping tent, my primary activity personally.

Looks like my Hilleberg tunnel tent :). It's indestructible (had 1 meter of snow fall on it in the Atlas overnight), but on the heavy side (~6lb). I think the Hilleberg poles are thicker than the MSR ones in this one. Has condensation issues in the winter, too.

That's interesting. I've tested an MSR Elixir 2 in fairly rough weather on a hill top camp site on the Isle of Skye once with gusts ~8bft and the tent just couldn't be bothered. Not even a bent pole. Next day around us almost all other tents were damaged. It was fully staked out, tightly pitched and the wind facing side was pulled as far to the ground as possible, and closed up vents. Had a few other nights also in the wild with it in windy (although elss windy) conditions and it just proved to be a tent. So I'm a bit surprised that your friends had issues with their MSR tents. Only thing I can say though is that the Gear Shed is really not on par quality wise.

It looks really well thought out, really spacious and like you said - a proper 2 person tent! As for the groundsheet, just adding 4 mm bungee cord instead of the dyneema cord for the corner peg out points should make it perfect for just "pull-and-attach" to the rest of the tent (or maybe even attach the bungee loops directly to the flysheet pegging loops to make it a truly all-in-one pitch).

Owning an Abisko Lite 2 and the Hilleberg Soulo (amongst others) I'm not in the market for another tent but this is a creditable effort my MSR. I spent 10 weeks hiking through Lapland this past summer and the locals were gobsmacked that anyone would use non Scandic tents (that is inner first). So it's good to see MSR moving into the 21st century. This looks to me a real 2 person tent where the Fjallraven (Lite 2) is in reality oversized for one. One thing I like about the MSR is the door on the inner zips right across the bottom. Much easier to cook with the stove in the vestibule whilst you hide inside the main body when there are myriad insects, mosquitos in Scandinavia and sandflies in New Zealand for example. The Abisko Lite doesn't zip up the same way and cooking can be a little awkward. If you want a quality 2 person tunnel tent look at the Abisko Lite 3 and compare it with this MSR. The weight of either if shared between two makes it a light weight option....Another excellent review Paul.

Hi Paul, I have the Naturehike opulus 3, it's almost identical but I believe it's larger than the msr! It also has a large vestibule with a door each side and it's large enough for 2 to sit in easily. Same weight and pack size. The ground sheet is also a bit of a pain like the msr but I can be clipped on with a bit of patience 🤣🤣 . Great vid again👌

I have a Vango Meteor 300 which I use when camping with the mrs. It's a great tunnel tent which wasn't available for very long and was then rebranded as the Scafell 300 with some lesser specs in comparison to the Meteor. The higher spec F10 Xenon UL II is the most high-performance version of this same tunnel design. I'll sometimes use the Meteor alone when the hike in isn't too steep or far and I fancy a more spacious experience. Mine weighs in at a manageable 2.4kg which is pretty good for a 3 man tent!

Hi Paul. It's a nice looking tunnel tent! It reminds me of the New Zealand company Macpac's Minaret 2 person 2 hoop tunnel tent except its bigger. Andrew Park had a Minaret a couple of years ago. And he did a review of it. The Minaret was a bit small for 2 people really! ( Andrew Park agreed). We used to know the Macpac sales rep in Wellington and when we commented that the Minaret was good but a bit small for two, he would always say "Hey - obviously you keen adventuress types really need to buy the Macpac Olympus 2 person tent!" That was Macpac's mainstay tent. It was a larger three hooped tunnel tent. It was a great tent. really popular in the 1980s and 1990s...but.. it was at least a $100 more expensive and at least a kilogram heavier!

Right I have been loitering within the realms of my snugpak bunker for a couple of years now and although I do love it because you really do feel like you are in a tortoise shell, the space (particularly the head room) however is limited especially when i attempt to levitate myself up on a trekology UL140 🙃 This tent looks like its going to be my new favourite! The 3 person variant is the same weight as the bunker… I don’t mind the weight in exchange for a comfortable sturdy spacious tent! My wish list is growing longer by the day 😂 i am supposed to be concentrating of building the cabin 😂😂😂 Nice informative video and definitely made me want one! Stay safe and thankyou for posting 🙂🌲

That is are really practical tent, for one big reason. It has a side opening vestibule, which makes the vestibule much more practical in the wet. This might be unique for a 2 hoop tunnel tent. The only other tunnel tents I have seen with the side opening vestibules are the 3 hoop tents, which are much larger, heavier, and bulkier. I would be curious to know if there are any other 2 hoop tunnel tents with side opening vestibule.
