Hey guys absolutely awesome to see you make the effort to demonstrate and show and demonstrate this tent actually out in the field.. Very few do this, so I have just subscribed to your channel and hopefully will see more content like this.. The tent looks pretty good and gets a lot of the basics right. With the MSR branding it should do well.. ATB Tom

I think this is a creditable first effort by MSR into the world of tunnel/Scandic tents. I own the Fjallraven Abisko Lite 2 but on a glance the MSR seems to offer greater internal space and is therefore in reality a true 2 man tent where as the Abisko is more an oversized one person tent. Pack size then for the MSR isn't a real problem if shared between two. I won't be buying it based on my requirements but wish MSR well.

Great video guys, I actually bought my hilleberg soulo from you last year, which I use as my winter / bad weather tent, I’ve been using the msr hubba hubba as my “ good weather / summer “ tent as the extra room is a plus, but pitching the inner first and then the fly is a pain, especially as 99% of the time I’m solo, a bit of wind and the fly is flapping about all over the place So I’ve been looking for a new 3 season tent, this looks perfect for the job, the price is a bonus as trying to get another tent past the mrs is gunna be a struggle I love the amount of room you get, and it looks as though it will hold up to a fair bit of bad weather if you happen to get caught out Cheers guys

Looks great, love my Elixr 2 for hiking, this one would be great for my motorbike travels, I would like a bathtub footprint though, Iwish the Elixr went up as outside first.
@karlgreene2177 Жыл бұрын
You can pitch the Elixir fly first.

@@karlgreene2177 not sure how that would work if you also wanted to install the inner!

It can definitely done. It's something worth practicing before going out. You use the footprint to set up the poles and then throw the fly over. Next you need to peg it all out and crawl in to attach the inner

A beautiful looking tent, but very heavy.
@ironpig701 Жыл бұрын
First off when I heard weight I was taken aback as Im use to treking pole tents and frankly this is super heavy. But looking at that vestible which you could sleep a child or dog as its huge. And space inside. Be much nicer with 2 people waiting out a storm. In my 2 person trekking pole tent there is no way Im sitting like that in vestibule.

Nice video, well made and presented. I looked at these earlier in the summer. Value for money wasn’t great, pack size is quite large and it’s heavy by modern standards. We went with a terra-nova starlight 2 in the end for its weight and pack size but mostly terra-nova quality/reputation/back up are right up there

I'd like this tent to succeed because it would be good to see MSR and other US tentmakers offering a competitive range of tunnel and outer-first tents for the European market and conditions. But I can't see that this Tindheim does anything particularly well in any category. It's not a bargain price-wise; its on-paper spec isn't special; it's quite bulky and not a lightweight; it looks like a fairly standard tunnel tent offering. Nothing really stands out to make it a must-try, at least not yet. So it will be very interesting to see how it performs out in real-world 3-season UK conditions and whether that does give it a distinct edge against the competition.
@tauntonleisure Жыл бұрын
Hi Rob, what is really impressive about this tent is the space. It has a really big sleeping area for a 2 man tunnel, this does make it heavier but really comfy for 2 people and kit. We should probably do a side by side with some other 2 person tunnels we carry to get this point across. If you are able to I would really recommend seeing one pitched in store.

if it had better accomodation at the foot end than a Nammatj, it would resolve that tents only weakness. Hilleberg suggest covering your feet with a raincoat! the video strangely did not show the inside?

Thank you for your comment. As the camera man I was sat at the foot end of the tent filming toward Stu while he was cooking. It was surprisingly spacious. I wouldn't know off the top of my head how it compared but I was comfortable sat upright at the far end of the tent. Thank you for your comment

Hello! I need your advice, please help! The MSR Tindheim 2 tent is sold in my city. How reliable are the materials in it if there is strong wind? How will the tent behave in snowfall? I’m mountaineering, winter is coming soon, and I keep looking at this tent. I wanted to order the Hilleberg nammatj 2 tent, but it is expensive and I have to wait. I understand that MSR copied this tent from Hilleberg? what about the condensate? Is there a lot of it in the tent in the morning or not? In general, my occupation is tourism and mountaineering, in four seasons of the year. Should I buy MSR? Thank you!
@tauntonleisure Жыл бұрын
Good morning, Thank you for reaching out. MSR takes great pride in crafting their tents using high-quality materials to ensure durability and performance, particularly in challenging conditions with high winds. It's important to note that the tent in question is classified as a 3-season tent and not suitable for heavy winter conditions. The tent poles are not designed to withstand significant snow loads, making it less suitable for such conditions. Regarding any similarities to Hilleberg's products, it's essential to recognize that tunnel tents have a long history and are produced by various manufacturers. A direct comparison between the two can be challenging, especially considering the substantial price difference. Hilleberg's Nammatj, as part of their Black Label range, is specifically engineered to excel in a wide range of terrains and weather conditions, including heavy snow and winter use. If your intended use includes winter conditions, waiting for the Nammatj may be the wiser choice. However, if your primary usage scenario revolves around autumn, spring, summer, with occasional lowland winter outings, the Tindhelm would indeed be a suitable and cost-effective option. Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions or require additional information. We are here to assist you in making an informed decision.

On your website the hubba hubba NX is also classed as a 3 season tent ?
@tauntonleisure Жыл бұрын
Hi, MSR also describe the Hubba Hubba NX as 3 season. We find "seasons" is not always a great way to describe usage, 3 seasons in the south west is very different to 3 seasons in Scotland. I would say Hubba Hubba is a great tent for 3 season use in good conditions and the Tindheim good for 3 season use in rough conditions, having a fly that comes to the ground and solid inner keeping the tent warmer. Neither tent would perform well in proper winter conditions, but mild winter / light snow we would be happy with a Tindhiem for occasional use

Hi Guys, Thanks for the review. Very interested in this but is there any chance you can measure and confirm the inner width of the 2 man version please. It looks massive in videos but MSR diagram seems to suggest its only 114cm wide which is actually pretty slim? I prefer anything above 127cm. Even the Access 2 is 127 cm so I suspect MSR may have got their marketing wrong ? Thanks in anticipation you can check and confirm for all us prospective buyers ?! Andrew

Morning Andrew, Thank you for your comment! It appears that MSR has added the width of the front of the tent rather than the sleeping vestibule. From my measurements, it is 1.35m in width.

How do these tunnel tents with no support in the middle hold out against the weight of the snow?
@tauntonleisure Жыл бұрын
Hi, pitched correctly, tunnel tents do well in snow and are often used in Arctic and sub Arctic trips, where the space and weight is an advantage over Geodesic tents. They are not as good with heavy snow loading though, so camping in the snowing seasons (when you expect large dumps of snow) we would suggest a geodesic tent.

So MSR have made a copy of the Hilleberg Nammatj that is not only less stormworthy but is also heavier. Good job MSR. Half the price, half the tent I guess.
@tauntonleisure Жыл бұрын
Hi Phil, thanks for the comment. I would say it is unfair to compare the Tindheim to a Nammatj, completely different price brackets and for quite different end users. Nammatj is a Black Label expedition tent designed for polar winters and heavy expedition use where durability, reliability and weight are far more important that price. Tindheim is definitely aimed at a customer with a more modest budget and might not be going to extreme locations, but 3 season backpacking in Europe where you need something with more durability than most 2 season tents and are not in a position to buy an Expensive Sil Nylon tent.
@Corcioch Жыл бұрын
@@tauntonleisure This looks like a great tent, albeit pack size was worryingly large looking at the beginning of the video. A practical tent for most in Europe. Especially seeing as the vast majority of Hilleberg tent owners have no real need of the them. They just want them.

Morning Cormac, Thank you for your comment. The pack size does come across as a little large. However, if you separate out the poles and the tent you can shrink it down considerably. I will link a video below to demonstrate: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2bWqnh-asRmrZY

Groundsheet first? Typical MSR and US style. This tent cannot beat Fjallraven Abisko Lite 2 in all aspects except the headroom. But I believe, based on this tent, MSR will develop much better tunnel tents in the next generation.

The footprint is included with the tent but is not essential for pitching so if you would prefer to leave it at home and save some weight this is completely fine. We think this is a great starting point and like you pointed out it's a commitment to the UK market and to tunnel tent design

There’s a comment further up alluding to the possibility that MSR just wanted a slice of the Scandinavian manufacturers market, they even gave it a scandi sounding name!
@CharlieBooker00 Жыл бұрын
its not often i say something that isent positive ..... i had a look at it just when it came out at a show room, and at first it looked sort of allright, but then i startet thinking, all the companys that makes the good tunnel tents are scandinavian, and they have been perfecting them for years, and take Hilleberg they even design them for specific jobs, and its the same with other companys if you look at the shape of most of them alot of thought have gone in to the aerodynamics and the way they work and overall design ..... what msr did is a straight tube it has no design at all and its bad materials and for what it is its hugely expensive. And on top of that look at the name they did it to grab money from a bit of the market they dident have anything for its a copy they even gave it a scandinavian name. And my experience with msr is the worst i have with any company they promis more they can keep the build quality is bad the durability is bad and prices are bad the custumer service is bad so i think most people will regret buying, it and i can go on

I was hoping this would be a really well specified tent with great materials light weight and strong for a reasonable price .it looks to have failed all ALL counts . Who in there right mind would buy this with a 1500 mm hh . Argos tents are better than that for £40 . Delusional.
