Matt talking about profit sharing and basically describing socialism is so funny
@mcs1313135 ай бұрын
Nah I’d say he’s actually basically describing public equities. That is how a company works. By the time you work there though - that guy who started it and gets the lion share has a lot more than you and has started selling pieces of his profit share.
@mcs1313135 ай бұрын
@@ericbailey1182 like people complaining about the way the market is run by the man don’t get - every company starts as a coop. You’re just not the one starting it. You start the company you and your friends get to have a coop and decide how to dish out the profits to the employees after (or more accurately - how much you’re able to keep for your self - vs how much you NEED to give away because it’s hard to convince people to work for you when your equity is worth nothing and you don’t have profit. Those people take equity with no promise of actual payout. If it works out, they become very rich. If it doesn’t - they just worked for free for a few years. Once the company has more stable financials / grows, it starts paying people actual cash for the work they do. Those people later complain the company isn’t sharing the profits. But if you want the profits - go join the company that is currently not making money or paying any actual cash. May work. Might not. If that sounds too risky for you - now you understand why you took a job paying steady wages and also don’t get the profits of someone who took risk.

It's sounds like such a great idea... As long as everyone is a moral person. That's never going to be how it works.
@mcs1313134 ай бұрын
@@PhantomFilmmaker-jd9ho this literally is how everything works. Thats what equity in a company works. But - your average person - prefers $50k in cash, to equity that might be valued at $65k - but that only pays you $4k a year you can’t use to buy food or pay your rent. Companies pay cash rather than equity not to cheat people out of it - but because your average worker needs money today. Not assets worth something in the future. I 100% guarantee you - if the auto union went in and demanded that ford not pay them in cash - but instead pay them in equivalent value in stock - ford would sign that deal in 10 minutes.

You know it's funny I came to a very similar conclusion to Matt. Gamification while still having a safety net is probably the best way to go. To be able to provide bros with all that they need at the end of the day while still incentivizing them and challenging them to succeed and to compete and explore. We are wired to survive and to preserve meaning in life We have to simulate The challenges that come along with survival. We have to do things so we are emotionally invested, Even though at the end of the day if we still lose we are taking care of

Matt's ideation about a "war game" as a proxy to violent armed conflict is not entirely without historical precedent. There's quite a bit of evidence that the Mesoamerican Ball Game (which was called different things depending on time, location, and language, with possibly different rules also) was used by different cultures to resolve conflict and establish political dominance between Olmec and Maya city-states. Even in some preserved legends, the gods play the ball game against one another in cosmic conflicts rather than fighting with weapons, indicating its significance as a mechanism to resolve conflict in their societies. So that goes to show, it is possible for humans to resolve conflict on a national level without overt violence, as Matt says, having Olympic teams ready to go instead of armies. Not that it's likely - but it's possible.
