I missed editing out 2 spots I was tripping over my words. Don't mind that :) If you are coming to San Francisco for GenBeauty & you would like to hang out, I will not be attending, but have set up a meet up close by. Details on my Instagram bit.ly/2fbubnm & Facebook. GenBeauty is on Pier 27, which is the cruise building. If you go outside & head north west, 12 minute walk to the tourist trap of San Francisco 😊 Saturday Nov. 5th 1pm Meeting at Hard Rock Cafe. If it isn’t too busy, @rip.ly & I will be inside partaking in a cocktail perhaps, or we will be out front. Its hard to say how busy the area will be & it could just be Riply & I, or us plus 20 people. I figure we can meet there, & go from there. I would like to hit up the Sephora on Powell street & shop as well. I know GenBeauty runs from 11am-5pm, but if you would like to sneak away for a bit, or just come hang out, we will be there. At 2pm we will move from there to wherever the wind takes us. I will post updates as to where we are on Instagram once we get moving if you would like to meet up later. Recap: 1pm-2pm Saturday November 5th at Hard Rock Cafe Pier 39, Beach St #256, San Francisco, CA 94133 ✌🏻️❤️😘

Stephanie Nicole I'm having a little trouble with these ingredients and how they are said to work. I was wondering if the cosmetics laws are different in the USA than in Europe (actually I know they are, stricter laws here in Europe) because what you're saying about some of the ingredients going deep into the skin or somehow working in the deeper layers of the skin... as a beautician who's now studying the chemistry of cosmetics I call bullshit on that. :D here in Europe cosmetics cannot penetrate deep into the skin, they work only on the first layer. All of the marketing that states they do work deeper is only that - marketing. Not actually true. If they work deeper they would have to be labeled as medicinal. I'm genuinely interested if you can tell is the legislation so different there? But otherwise I loved this video and your content in general, I really do appreciate you going into so much detail in your videos. So not trying to be mean here, this is the only video I've seen by you that has left me wondering. :) thank you for your great work!
@MsStephNic
@MsStephNic 8 жыл бұрын
I work in formulations, done with my schooling. I can assure you certain ingredients do penetrate deeper into the skin, where some ingredients because of their molecular size, like mineral oil, just sit on top. Like attracts like. So the sebum in your skin, attracts other ingredients that are similar. The EU is very strict. When we sell a product there, to put anything on a label, we have to pay a TON of money to go through their testing. Every single claim needs to be substantiated. Green beauty is a little different. They are natural ingredients that have been around since ancient times. No one wants to dish out money to pay for the testing. You may call bullshit, but the results I see, & many others have too, are hard to argue with.
@roxopoks
@roxopoks 8 жыл бұрын
Okay, so it's probably that the legislation is so different. I'm not saying that ingredients can't work deeper, just that the ones that do shouldn't be in cosmetic products - but again, might just be the legislation here, I haven't studied the laws in the USA. And I don't call bullshit on the product working, I'm sure it has more of an effect when it goes deeper, just that here in EU it's not allowed to work that deep. So that just confused me, because of what I've learned :) I should read up more on how these things work in the USA, but thanks for responding and clearing this up for me! I'm sure it's a real pain to get a product on the markets here, I can imagine.

Stephanie Nicole I definitely agree that there are funding issues with testing of ingredients from plants and such that have been used for hundreds, perhaps thousands of years. Much of the funding of medicinal and healthcare ingredients (including in universities) are done for securing a government patent or monopoly, which is not available for things that has been around and in use for hundreds of years. It would be cool though to know if there are any reliable sources of information on the beneficial properties of these oils and other skincare ingredients. If you have sources or a systematic method for researching skincare ingredients, could you please share?

As a biological sciences graduate, I highly appreciate the research and work you put into your content!! Always backed with knowledge and presented in a systematic way and clear way. Definitely speaks to my inner nerd 🤓 📑📚💻 . Also thank you for being genuine and honest in all your reviews! You've definitely helped guide some beauty purchases, past and present. I ordered a bottle right after I watched your interview. I've been using it daily for about a month. I've never had to spend as much money as I did on this, I've been fortunate genetically with my skin. HOWEVER, this product is worth every single solitary penny. I cannot believe the effects. I don't think I've gone a day without getting commentary and/or compliments on how my skin is looking & how much it's changed. My skin looks and feels better then it did when I was 20. I smoked cigarettes for many years & had some damage, at least that I noticed. Fine lines around my eyes & across my forehead, all of them have nearly disappeared only after a month. The results have been INCREDIBLE. Thank you very very much for the recommendation.

Tracy I've had the bottle for just about 36-37 days. The first week I used it twice daily, about a few drops per use, which is enough to cover face & neck. I only use it at night now, after cleansing & toning, right before bed. I still have over half the bottle remaining, it's supposed to last for 8 weeks but I think it'll cover a longer period of time than that for me. I've got normal skin, a little on the dry side outside of the t zone. For those with combo or oily skin, it would be better to use a bit less then I do. It absorbs rather quickly, it feels kinda like a dry oil, not greasy at all, but it's oil none the less.

Thank you so much for that break down on Paula's Choice and their stance on essential oils. I remember coming across the site a couple of years ago and was genuinely confused as to why they admonished the use of these oils. I work in skin care and have had customers come to me citing PC, and although their attempt to educate the masses is valiant, it could pose a threat in terms of misinformation. Not too many people will go out of their way to do additional research on these claims. So again, THANK YOU!

I bought this product because i trust Stephanie more than any youtuber and most dermatologists to be quite honest. I am 25, and this actually helped my skin. (I smoke and live in the middle east so our weather here is hectic to say the least). I've never been comfortable with my skin tone because I'm a bit too pale and kept spray tanning religiously (like nearly every day) to hide my uneven skintone and blemishes. This REALLY helped my skin, and it's been 2 months since i've spray tanned. I would definitely recommend this product if you're REALLY into skincare like i am. I'm not bullshitting you when i say I've received numerous compliments about my skin recently. THANK YOU STEPHANIE. ILYSM; Can't wait for the next video

PS. Me saying i smoke is me justifying why i tend to spend a lot on cosmetics, because i feel i'm accelerating the aging of my skin so I'm trying to counter that effect. This isn't something a regular 25 year old would need

iAyo SB try to embrace your skin tone. we're all beautiful with our array of skin tones. each one slightly different. if you change it to match someone else, you no longer stand out in the rainbow. you just blend in to someone else. definitely try to give up the smoking though. it will help your whole body, not just your skin.

I'm allergic to lavender (I'm talking swollen throat, dizziness, spots/rash all over, headaches, you name it) so I obviously can't use this product, but thank you for mentioning the fact that people need to just try essential oils out and do their own research. I feel like so many consumers of beauty products are not educating themselves enough - they are just going off short recommendations from beauty bloggers/beauty editors (eg I love this product! Smells so good!) that may not have any idea about what they are promoting. Thanks for all of your hard work on every video.

I wanted to tell you that as a make up and skincare fanatic, and a PhD candidate in the Humanities, your reviews do everything for me. You're analytical, thorough, and transparent about your sources. You're straight forward, you aren't bubbly, and you don't regurgitate claims, which so so so many channels do. I appreciate your reviews as objects of accessible and honest research that expose larger audiences to understanding their skin on a chemical and microscopic level. And I also have learned so so much from them about getting the most out of the products I use. Watching your videos revolutionized the way I use face oils, and in turn, this proper use of face oils has had a huge impact on my skin health. So glad your channel exists!

Great video, and you are my HG reviewer, therefore I purchased this right after your interview. And because you turned me on to preparing a good base canvas (skin) for the beautiful paint (make up). My skin is combo (t zone oil) and wasn't awful to begin with. I started using this oil, but was using too much, thinking it was like my moisturizer. Therefore I broke out mildly. When I started using this, I also started good genes, Luna, and Pixi pads. So my skin looked great, felt super soft, and the oil production lessened. I can't pin point which product, or all of them, improved my skin. Currently, I've been using VD on and off bc I was waiting for your full review. I will use it nightly now. It's a little too heavy for me under my makeup during the day. I hope this was helpful and I'll update this comment, after a few wks of continued use, for anyone who wants to follow.

Hi all, I just wanted to follow up since I started using VD on a more consistent basis. So yes, I still agree it's too heavy for day use, but using it nightly after my cleanse (Indie Lee brightening-TophCam), Toner (Maycoop), Good Genes/Luna (alternate nights), VD (Steph Nicole), and Belif to seal it all in has been amazing! And P50 1-2 times night a week, just too strong for me to use daily. Hope this helps!

Thank you Stephanie! I was suffering from a serious skin reaction caused by retinal A and strong cleaning products! After I saw your interview I order through their website and started using it right after I got it around mid October. I'm 48 this year and my skin is still super oil, but this time I just changed my skin routine to cleanser, toner, and VD oil! And I'm going to stick with it because it works!!! It took away all the breakouts, discoloration, flackery dead skins and my skin is actually smoother, less oil, and I can see the pores are getting smaller for as long as I can remember! Maybe later I'll add some hydration products to the routine but for now I want to let my skin heal first. So for the oil mature skin like my --- less is more--- that's what I told myself everyday now, because I try EVERYTHING! Including Sunday Riley's oils and good genes, they were good just didn't have the effect that VD oil does for my skin! So thanks again for pointing the right direction for me! And happy birthday to you! I wish I could meet you if you come back to Boston!

I started watching your videos around the time I went off birth control last October and am so grateful for your skin care videos. I've struggled with bad skin and hormonal acne since puberty and for the first time in my life my skin didn't freak out while not being on BC. I still get some hormonal break outs when my period comes around, but not to the extent that I used to. Thank you for making these super informative and educational videos 😊❤️ I'm interested to try this serum out and will definitely be saving up for it (and hiding it from my husband to avoid him doing what Keegan did 👍🏻)

Thank you so much for this review! I'm in my late 20s, so I don't think I quite need this now. But I'll definitely keep this in mind as I head into my 30s. I am currently using Jouer's Daily Clarifying oil, which does share 3 ingredients with Vitner's Daughter (grape seed, primrose, and rosemary), is fragrance free, and $60. The formulation has been great for my acne prone combination skin. I'd definitely recommend that as an alternative for those of us in the younger set!

I'm so happy you touched on difference between "in vitro" vs "in vivo" testing and their supposed results! Please consider doing a review reiterating your explanation and explaining that the vast majority of "in vitro" results can't be extrapolated into the same results when topically applied. This could help so many people from being as vulnerable to the marketing manipulation that runs rampant in the beauty industry. PLEASE!!!

Hi Stephanie, I can't thank you enough for your deeply research science based, unbiased reviews, I was one of those die hard no, no, essential oils at all, my research wasn't deep enough as yours but your background gives you the upper hand, i couldn't get pass the cytotoxic part, my photosensitive skin (chemo left me feeling like a vampire, the sun literally burns me now) made worse every time I used them and the bad reactions no matter what I did or how much sunscreen I used, but I knew there's must've been something else, solvents!!!, the extraction process was the culprit, I'm actually highly sensitive to the solvents used in extractions so I do have to spend a good penny for super high quality oils, I follow your advice and just kept trying and testing, now I'm a fan of Good Genes by SR which I bashed and hated the price tag, specially after seeing the essential oils part but I agree with you, if it's has more benefits than the potential side effects the natural smell has then is not just fragrant, I use less products every time and my skin hasn't looked this better, thanks again for the effort your put in every review, I know how time consuming it can be, people who put out content like yours deserves to be supported with every link so don't ever feel uncomfortable doing so, smart consumers can smell bs from miles nowadays, thanks again.

I purchased Vintner's Daughter about two month's ago but started getting really itchy on my neck so I stopped using it. But the itchiness has returned sporadically and I haven't really changed any of my routine. I did switch from DE TLC to SR Good Genes (but that was only about a week ago). I'm thinking it was just my skin acting up because of the heat and sweating during the summer. Now I'm as dry as the Sahara and getting patches of eczema around my eyes (EEP!). This is going to be a rough winter here on the east coast. I'm going to re-incorporate Vintner's Daughter into my AM routine. I really did love the feel and smell. Plus the price tag will really kill me if I can't use it...my sister already called dibs, if I can't use it. Love this video...as always super informative. Where you find the time to do all this research and filming/editing boggles my mind!!! Thank you so much for all your hard work. Good luck with your new regions :)

Oh, and for anyone reading the comments and wondering about shipping directly from the website, I believe the flat rate shipping is 2 day Priority mail (came super fast and was cheap- can't remember how much, maybe $5 or something??). She also sent a sample in a small glass vial. :)

I really want to try this serum!! When I finish all my stash of serums and oils, I'll try this... Also, I have to say this as a scientist: Besides the fact that in vivo an in vitro studies are different, cancer cells are waaaaaay different than normal cells. They have a different phenotype than normal cells, so it is an aberration to say that because lavander oil "kills" cancer cells, then kills all cells. OMG! This is why I hate when people do not ask scientists for more information or read more about the topic in question. The better way to research this things is to snoop around in open access journals, like PLOS One (which sucks, wish all journals were open access to let the people know about studies!). Anyways. Love this video, Steph! You have one of the best contents around KZbin! xx

Super informative as always. I was especially interested to hear you talk about Beautypedia. It is so hard to find good information about cosmetics and skincare, and I frequently reference Paula's site. But, I also greatly value the information you provide in your reviews, and I have often noted that your opinions differ from Paula. I'm glad to hear you challenge that site directly (and respectfully), as it is so helpful to hear differing perspectives with this kind of detail and clarity. At the end of the day I suppose we all have to experiment and find what works for us, but both you and Paula have been - and continue to be - much appreciated resources for preliminary research. Thank you - keep it up!

This was very informative on essential oils vs. carrier oils. Thank you for the info on the study Beautypedia used, I was always curious about that. I have an allergy to fragrance and a sensitivity to essential oils, and this serum would probably burn like fire, lol. Because of my skin, I rely heavily on Beautypedia reviews, and would be lost without them. Paula's Choice products are wonderful for my skin. However, I was wondering if it was accurate for everyone. Your peanut analogy was an excellent way to explain it. But I have to admit, I still lean on the side that it's irritating for everyone, although I realize my personal experience colors things. As someone with oily skin prone to breakouts, I do strongly disagree that oily skin needs natural oils. Especially, since potential irritation can cause more breakouts. Also, a question I have is whether there are studies that show the vitamins in these oils actually penetrate skin and have benefits, other than moisturizing. I realize they contain the vitamins, but haven't seen any studies that show benefits. I enjoy your videos a lot and love how you reference research. Your videos are like a breath of fresh air in the You Tube world. I especially enjoyed your video with your mom, she seems like a wonderful person.
