No matter the visual quality (budget) of the season, the theme song always kicked ass!
@AvengerII7 жыл бұрын
Definitely sounds like the original version of the theme was sung by Joel himself. It doesn't have the "la, la" that was added later. The theme definitely got re-recorded by different guys (I'm guessing Joel didn't re-record with him doing the lead vocals in the later version(s)) with extra words and chants/refrains like "la, la" added in.

The was the last of a series of 4 feature length TV-Movies edited from the series of Space:1999 Year Two episodes The Metamorph and Space Warp. This was an absurd policy of creator Gerry Anderson and ITC New York President Abe Mandell, to splice and edit episodes of Space:1999 and other ITC TV series he had produced for theatrical release or for broadcast in markets that were not broadcasting the series. The first was Destination: Moonbase Alpha edited from the second series two-parter The Bringers of Wonder. Second was Alien Attack edited from the first season opener BreakAway with War Games. Third was Journey Through the Black Sun edited from Collision Course and The Black Sun. Alien Attack retained all footage from both episodes omitting the opening and closing credits. Journey Through The Black Sun was heavily edited. The 8 episodes utilized (4 from the first series and 4 from the second) were removed from the syndication packages to avoid view confusion.

One could say that the early episodes are bad(from a production/technical point of view), but after having watched virtually every episode from season 1 on, I find that I like these episodes the best. They are so raw. The bots really look "homemade". The commentary seems at least partially improvised and you can tell because it makes one of the others laugh. You can call Joel? Wow... I grew up watching Ghulardi(sp?), Big Chuck & Hoolihan (then Little John), and Super Host and in my adult life have always gravitated to those kinds of "home town" shows with terrible budgets but people that loved their art.

It's highly optimistic to think they saved all the original props. That's not usually the case. I doubt they were thinking the original Servo's and Crow's would be worth anything years later. They did literally build the robots and sets from whatever pieces of cheap junk/found objects they could find. Servo is literally half of a modded gumball machine! If they couldn't be repurposed or rebuilt as the series evolved, they probably got thrown out. (The new 'bot robots might actually be made from plastic molds at this point. I'm sure they've got the money now or could get a fan with the know-how to build new 'bots from molds. (I mean, hell, Jeff Dunham uses 3-D laser printing to make his newest ventriloquist dummies now. 3-D printers get cheaper all the time.) There have been at least 3-4 versions of these robots up to the present not including one-off episode mods or episodes where they blew up/destroyed duplicates of the main puppets. And with that said, if they ever again marketed a reasonable facsimile of Tom Servo -- doesn't have to be FULL size! -- I'd probably get it. (I know they sold one a few years back but I doubt they still make him or Crow.) He's easily one of the neatest robot designs along with Crow. They belong in a hall of fame besides R2-D2, C-3PO, Robby the Robot, and The B-9-M-3/Robot from the original Lost in Space.

@choosecarefully4082 жыл бұрын
Yep. This particular episode along with Legend of the Dinosaurs & City on Fire are riffed by humor the level of 12-year-old boys as well. Making extremely lazy Chinese buffet menu jokes in reference to nothing but the fact that the film is Japanese which makes no sense & "50 fat jokes about Shelley Winters." Had any of these three been my first viewing of MAT3K, they would have been my last. How tf did making these lame, weak jokes ever get a second season? I mean, even if the first few were good, having the last few of season K be bad would tell people that the well was empty. Joel left over an argument over improv versus writing? All he had to do was re-watch this episode to see how wrong he was. _Edit:_ at 1 hour twenty minutes in, finally there was a joke that actually made me laugh. Tom Servo's earlier answer to "what's our position?" "... Against...?" Was great. But Crow's talking about how he hates 'humanoids' because they hurt so much, then correcting himself saying that he was thinking of something else (ending in 'oids') & letting us figure it out... _THAT_ is a good joke! How suicidal did Trace sound, having to shill for a pizza place though? That was disheartening.
