You have a lovely collection of orchids. What a surprise to have all of those flower spikes. I guess having them outdoor in the summer helps. Every orchid mom looks for spikes.

Yes I do believe outside was better as cools down quicker there than in the house, for the drop in temperatures makes it easier on them to survive always over 100 F temperatures. Love Carolyn

Awe..poor Maggie. She knows what's coming. ❄️. Don't feel bad about losing your catacedum, you tried. I think we have all lost a few. That new fertilizer sounds interesting. Especially if you can use tap water. ❤🐥
@jacolynsorchids1361948friendsАй бұрын
Thank you so much! The use of tapwater is on the label so we will see. The other msu was working good, and it had our tap water also. We will see. I am not going to miss the catacedum, I did try and just extra work , for no reward, watering every day, extra fertilizer etc. Like them all on same schedule. Rose Marie will be a little sad as it was a gift from her, but these things do happen Love Carolyn

@@jacolynsorchids1361948friends Hello to you all. Glad all is well. I have two Uncles and an Auntie all in their 90s. Sounds very similar to Mum. They all suffer with pains in their joints, made worse by some recent falls. Some days they get confused, another not so much. But they seem to remember years ago clearly. But all seem cheerful. You all take care. Love from us all. Rosemary. xxx

Finally got to watch and enjoy another episode with you. Yes the weather is very making a statement lately. Mother Nature ya never know. My daughter has a wonderful assortment of dahlias we did in tubs this year because of voles ,argh ,was a hot summer so water more then when blooms were really going to really be beautiful we got a frost warning the other day. Some made it lots didn’t ,now going to be nice for a while. Well that gardening. Your orchids are beautiful and so many spikes you’ll be enjoying and sorry about your one that was a challenge. I understand. But you are knowledgeable and I appreciate your information that we can use when other things fail. I’ve heard chickens do slow down egg production as less light and seasons. So I’m sure they’ll be so happy when spring comes around. You’re such a sweet lady and good health to you ,Jack your mom and little Maggie. 🐶💕🪴

Thanks for lovely e mail!!! Weather is just still raining here, glad we are not on low land, as flooding happening in some places. Mother nature has always been changing. I understand about frost, lost Geraniums that way couple years ago . In the Spring when Peonies open, always a problem if it rains and their life is short, because of it. The orchid I got rid of was just too much work for the reward, Water every day, fertilize lots, than bugs too much for me. I actually feel better I do not have to take it to sink and wash all leaves off all the time. Phals so easy in comparison. Yes chickens slow down in winter, and we do not mind, will just take how it comes, they are getting friendlier every day. and funny too! Maggie getting protective with them, gives her something to look at outside. Love Carolyn

Starting watering mine less now because they don’t need it but I’ve just bought some new fertiliser and it’s got everything in it which is a high one as well. £10 was the cost which I didn’t think was too bad. It will last me awhile but Rogers or kids use it as well, because he looked all the ingredients in it and it’s got seaweed and drugs in it as well so I thought well I’ll give it a go if he can use it so could I thanks for the information nice to see you catch you soon. glad everybody’s okay and your chickens.❤❤

Good the fertilizer has sea weed which mine do love. We will see how things go. Another hot dry summer ending with lots of rain and cold , even some snow on the mountains. We are all ok, actually look forward to winter, time to catch up on piano, painting reading. Furnace will be running lots now till Spring. Dry air in the house because of it. Always fun Love Carolyn

It’s so good to hear from you,I was expecting to see the chickens, maybe next time. Everything looks great. You seem to have a great touch for keeping your mini mark growing. I have tried 3 times and still have not had any luck. Love hearing from you .Robin

Thank you! You too! Will have to do a little chicken video to add on the end of orchids. They are getting so used to us all, and not worried about Maggie putting her nose close LOL Mini mark has been a problem but seems to be trying, LOL very tiny leaves. Love Carolyn

You have very nice new treasures for your home. Everything is looking very cosy. But how do you keep up with cleaning all those surfaces?😂 must be a lot of work I guess! The Phals are healthy. They have been in the heat outside and still doing better then ever. You have done a good job with that fertuliser! How about the one with the terminal spike? Is is still alive? I didn't see that one in the video. Autumn is coming here too.. time for cocooning. Greetings from Belgium.😊
@jacolynsorchids1361948friendsАй бұрын
I like cocooning! Yes Terminal Spike did nothing for months, absolutely nothing, one video I did mention this, on examing roots nothing there either, finally gave up on it. Magnetic Duster, done very quickly, sometimes in winter I decide to clean something extraspecially :0) Love Carolyn (Had some snow on mountains, but finally gone, still raining though

Hey Carolyn!!!! So glad to see you. ALWAYS a pleasant surprise to see a video up. I am right there with you on orchid preference. After much trial and error and way more money than I care to think about I came to the conclusion that I am a phal gal. I love them!!! I even like the complex hybrid/grocery store phal better than the specialty and species phals. I have some different things I struggled and struggled with til I finally wised up and got rid of them so "good for you"! Glad you're getting rain. Love all your spikes coming. They say imitation is the greatest flattery so I guess I am flattering you a lot these days as I move more and more into the glass vases! Do you think it has changed how often you water? I'm thinking mine can go longer between watering. Take care, love you!!!!
@jacolynsorchids1361948friendsАй бұрын
Yes you know you made the right decision when you are happy to get rid of something that was too much work LOL Phals are so easy, and so rewarding. The small vases are on the same water schedule, some will take adjustment time, but they seem to love it!! Love Carolyn

I have missed you so much,Carolyn❤️ are you still using bloomer fertilizer at this time or just MSU🌸
@jacolynsorchids1361948friendsАй бұрын
Oh thankyou so much , when the fertilizer comes that is all I will use on those 2 watering weeks out of six. Winter creeping in 42 deg this morning there was some snow on the mountains. I do not mind winter, hobby time, I love painting so that is the time to catch up on painting, piano and reading. Nice to have your comment made me smile Love Carolyn

Hi, Carolyn! Nice to hear you’re getting rain - so good for everything! Glad the chickens are doing well. Will they be okay out there when winter sets in? Do you use a heater? I was so happy to hear about the fertilizer you ordered, because I bought the same one a couple months ago! If you remember, my orchids took a deep dive when we moved. I’m hoping to get some spikes! Happy to spend a little time in your home! Hugs, Mary Ann
@jacolynsorchids1361948friendsАй бұрын
We are getting rain, that the forest and everything needed badly, just all coming at once!! Funny we both ordered same fertilizer, sounds good and will probably seal good lock out air and store in dry cubboard. Hope you get spikes too! Every thing and everyone has to adjust after a move! all things in time Love and Hugs Carolyn

I need some advice that I am unable to find an answer for as of yet. I'm interested in purchasing some orchids, hopefully small dwarf styles, that can survive in a grow tent at 80 degrees with 95% humidity by day and 70 degrees with 98% humidity after the grow lights go out for the night. My grow tent is set up for Nepenthes pitcher plants and I'm just wanting to give those pitchers some tropical companions. Could you possibly recommend a few species of Orchid that would thrive under these conditions?
@jacolynsorchids1361948friendsАй бұрын
Well! any orchid you try because of heavy humidity probably will be mounted rather than in a pot. My humidity is pretty opposite of this so sorry to say I can not be of help Love Carolyn

I don’t want to be a downer, but you will eventually have rats if you have chickens. Just a heads up. Tunnels will appear. It may take years. We had chickens for years, and practiced excellent husbandry. Mice, rats, and squirrels love the food. On the positive, blue birds will like the mealworms if you feed those as treats. We free-ranged ours.
@jacolynsorchids1361948friendsАй бұрын
LOL No downer :0) LOL We have enclosed the coop and run so securely to stop them from getting in, as we have a neighbour that contihually throws a bag of bird seed (huge bag) out on his driveway!!!!! This are now has rats, and they are getting well fed. So we have wire underground on tunnel and the chicken run is pretty secure also and has the roof covered in hardware cloth too. At night I cover any food with a cover than cannot be entered. Love Carolyn
