My son is 25 never diagnosed professionally with Autism, but I believe he is on the spectrum. When he started walking as a baby he walked on his toes. The pediatrician said he would grow out of it, he didn't. Around the age of 6 I was told he could have surgery to cut his Achilles tendon to loosen it. I chose not to. He still, at 25 will at times walks on his toes. Around 6th grade the teacher said he was a really bright kid the only problem was he didn't have friends, which today at 25 is still true. He went through school and college basically without friends. It bothers me, he seems fine. He has a BS degree in Computer Science, and has veen with his job since finishing college. I guess according to where they are on the spectrum has a lot to do with progress.

Content like this helps us to be more empathetic to parents in general. I’m childless so it’s easy to see a child having a meltdown and think (s)he has behavioral issues when in actuality there is developmental impairments. I’m grateful you are educating me.

Before having a child I didn't even know what autism was. It just "wasn't my problem." I started reading lightly about it when I was pregnant but still very ignorant. Now I can see an autistic kiddo coming a mile away. And I run to them. You're so right.

DL1982 Peters DL1982 Peters It definitely wasn’t easy for me either! My Son was diagnosed at 2. I had to almost threaten for a evaluation. After his evaluation i immediately started the process of getting him in ABA. He didn’t start til 3. No one take your child as serious as you do. & It can be extremely frustrating! Don’t give up and stand firm on what you want for your babies! Keep checking on the status , don’t wait on them to contact you! Praying for a healthy baby 💕

Vaughn maybe try putting one of those big plastic mats under her high chair during meal time so that when she eats you can just gather the mat and take it out and shake it..especially since you're already so busy dealing with the day to day of being a mom to Anne..cleaning that floor 3 times could be energy you place into something else. Just a suggestion of course do what works for your family hut motherhood is tiring enough and as a special needs mom myself to a now adult child it can exhaust you....you guys are raising Anne beautifully btw ❤ Take care of you as well so that you can continue to be your best for Anne

I can can see the worry in your eyes, but the early intervention, attention and care you're giving to Anne is going to do/is doing wonders for her. I work in a special needs high school with a lot of students on the spectrum. the goals for each student are different, and honestly I wish they paid as much attention to students' individuality in "mainstream" schools. I definitely can't tell you how to feel or that you should care what I think, and I think you're doing a wonderful job. thank you for sharing.

I do agree. I also work in a special needs school and I can see as well as feel the anxiety mom had in Chuck E Chees. Anne truly seems to be exposed to quite a lot. Continue doing a good job mom and dad. When you need to take breaks though, kindly ask someone you trust with Anne to come over and you and dad take break. Your mental health is just as important in this progress of Anne.

I DECLARE AND DECREE,you are HEALED. You will be ok, take the breaths and just take one day at a time. When you find yourself discouraged, think happy thoughts, listen to inspirational music or look at a comedy show. I deal with the same things and those are the techniques that helps me. When your the caregiver, you must stay balanced but you are human. So keep doing, what your doing, and you are going to be ok. I hope it helps, if your not already doing them. GOD BLESS. 🙏

My sister's child, my nephew is autistic and he was a handful at first he had to be sent to a special program for autistic children for a time, he came back home and he was much better. Now he is in his 20's and has a part-time job at McDonald's and he does his own cooking and his own choirs. He is really quite independent now but he does have OCD, everything has to be clean in order for him to use it. I'm so proud of him he has come along way. Anne is very sweet I think she will be pretty independent as a teenager, she is quite developed already.

Thank you for your condolences...... I was 21 when this happened to me. I was devastated to say the least. I always wanted a healthy chocolate little girl and that's what she was. It took me 15 years to finally get to a place of acceptance..(she would be turning 21 this December).......BUT, GOD is good because he did bless me with 2 healthy kids later. Now I have a 17 1/2 year old son and 16 year old daughter........Sometimes/Most times, I feel that God knew that having a child with special needs (she was born with some physical issues) he knew I probably would have a tough time with her and he chose to keep her. I used to beg/bargain/plead with to God to let me mother her with all the love/support me and my family was ready to give her...........talk about PAIN...........Can you imagine------------Saying Hello and Goodbye at the same time to your first child?????? I can't even begin to explain that........God Bless you and your family...................

I didn't get attached to him right away because mind you I went into labor at 5 months. they told me if he survived he would have issues an I should commit him. I went to the hospital everyday with breastmilk even though he didn't eat I had a little more hope everyday. No brain bleeds, the hole in his heart closed on its own. he does have learning issues an developmental delays but my god knows what we can bare an what we can't. The stats in the intro are so sobering, but I understand why this is happening to us. Autism life is very stressful, unpredictable, and can be isolating-along with triggering depression, anxiety and other issues that moms have to handle while making it all look like we're fine. I am a single mom and an autism mom (to my beautiful 11-year-old son), and this journey has taken everything I have to give, but because of the sacrifices my son is thriving and progressing very well. Thank you so much for sharing! Also, a very HAPPY, although belated, Father's Day to your husband for fighting the good fight by your side. Autism life will test our limits to the absolute max, much respect to you both. May Anne's speech and all other abilities continue to soar; she's a beautiful girl! Blessings!

I absolutely love this! I don't have any autistic children myself, but I'm always fond of learning about the unknown due to when people actually come across someone autistic you know how to approach. Plus, when people see an autistic child they're afraid of asking questions because of fear of overstepping that boundary. Anne is sooo adorable and Vaughn you're a wonderful parent taking the time to learn more about and cater to her every need! That's a beautiful thing to watch the dynamic the both of you share! The whole time I watched this vlog I found it hard to hold back tears. I can totally relate to you. My son Jace was diagnosed with ASD when he was almost four years old. I know it seems as though it took a long time for him to be diagnosed but my son started having seizures at four months and that took up so much of my focus. I had to stop working because he was constantly having seizures and we almost lost him three times. When he was diagnosed with ASD I cried and cried. My husband works so it has always been me that has become our sons caregiver. This is the hardest job I've ever had. It was hard to talk to my husband about my feelings because he is so used to me being strong. Not only does my child drop to the floor with seizures but now he will have a difficult time communicating. I found myself sinking into a depression and I can't even tell you the thoughts that went through my head. I do everything for my son and thank God he taught me how to be strong and how to be his mother. He is eight now and I have definitely learned to deal with things a lot better. He makes me strong!!! He makes me better!

First, thank you for letting us in on such intimate, sensitive details of your life... second, I don’t think I took a breathe the entire video. I think about your strength, resilience, willingness to learn and adapt to your life as it is, your willingness and ability to educate and inspire others, and in the midst of ALL of the things your YT family has experienced with you-You still SMILE. You still laugh, dance, meet up with your girls, decorate your house, be good to your husband and enjoy life. I’m only 25 years old but Vaughn I have learned sooo much from you and your family. I'm a mom to two typical girls but I'm an elementary school teacher of students with autism and I LOVED this vlog! I have worked with children with autism for over 5 years and it's so amazing to see a mom as involved as you from this small peek into your life! I so appreciated your portion about feeding. My students are in grade 4-5 and eating is DEFINITELY a challenge. The picky eating can be lifelong- but as long as you're doing all these leaps and bounds it will continue to benefit Anne in the future! Having a child with autism HAS to be difficult. I'm with my kiddos 8 hours a day and I get home so pooped but still have to parent my own two. I've seen lots of abandonment as you mentioned and some of my work kiddos only get consistency and attention in my classroom. I cannot imagine doing what you do all day every day. Hats off to you mama! You're killing this aut mom thing! Being a mom is HARD AF, let alone navigating life with a child that has a special need. Again, this is inspirational to watch and see someone so involved and dedicated to their child and who isn't in denial and who has done research! Thanks for sharing. Thanks for positivity. And thanks for opening others eyes more and motivating me to push through my daily life with my own kiddos and my students!!

I love you Vaughn! Ive been watching your channel from the very beginning here on youtube but this video touched me more than any video ive seen on youtube. Im an ABA therapist and one of the most heartbreaking thing ive seen is parents who drop their kids off at therapy but have mentally checked out and have no knowledge or interest in truly learning about autism and its effects on their child and entire family. This video makes me so happy because I love working with children on the spectrum and it has been one of the most rewarding things ive ever don. Its the reason im working toward becoming a teacher now. Seeing a parent so in-tun with her child and what she needs but also being unafraid to say that its hard and that you are doing everything you can is so amazing to me. Keep being the fabulous, kind-hearted person that you are. Your daughter is so blessed.

As an autism mother of an 18 year old the significance of this content is essential to encouraging younger mothers with children newly diagnosed on the spectrum. Raising him has been the most challenging thing I've ever done yet the growth and compassion I've gained is immeasurable. It's a lifelong learning process and I appreciate the statistical data you've shared in this video. I can also relate to the heightened awareness and consideration when going on social outings and I'm sure many parents of children with special needs will also. We tend to create our own form of normalcy and ways to decrease our stress levels. Thank you, thank you, thank your for sharing such these moments with your viewers. It's very necessary for a communities everywhere.

My little boy has autism. He was non verbal until about 4 years old and didn't get fully potty trained until 5.he talks a lot now and won't be quiet. He did get therapy and still has ot and speech therapy. I want to cry at times because I look at where he was and now where he is. He's come so far and by the grace of God so will other autistic kids or adults. Stay strong to all the moms out there,Gods got us. Step back take a breath and keep things moving.

Both of my boys were special needs. My older son, LD/ADD with a 42 page IEP, so I somewhat know of your struggle. My younger son LD/ADHD on the Asperger’s spectrum that wasn’t diagnosed until he was an adult. I am so glad there is so much more information out there now. It was kind of a frontier in the 70’s and 80’s. You are doing so very well with Anne. Be very proud of yourself and your very loving, Anthony. You and Anne and Anthony are in my prayers. ❤️

I am so grateful for your transparency! This is so beautiful to watch. I work as an ABA therapist currently and one of my kids is nonverbal. He is older so it has been a bit of a struggle learning him and the best way to communicate, but it has its rewards. I get emotional seeing parents who are not supportive with their children who are on the spectrum, so my heart is warmed by the efforts you and all these moms in the comments take!

Beautiful Momma, Daddy and beautiful baby girl! I'm so happy you're sharing your story. I'm a momma to an incredible Spectrum son. Your journey takes me back to all we struggled through but the journey was so humbling and blessed. Your patience & joy is such a blessing from God my sista! Keep loving & doing what you do. Taking proactive steps is the most precious gift you can give baby Anne. Hope & faith & prayer works! My son was non-verbal & afraid of people & food textures & too much stimulation at her age. He is now highly social, working and in college. God & love is sooo crucial for an Autistic child's development. But you are so right to give time & love to yourself too. Sending love & hope & prayer to you and your beautiful family ❤❤❤❤❤

I just stumbled onto your page and I too have an autistic child. Gabby is seven and we got a diagnosis after pushing our pediatrician to understand that I’m not over reacting. She was 3 when she finally was diagnosed and it has been a blessing ever since. She had lots of therapy and is no in regular classes and on grade level. We would not change one thing about her she is perfect in our eyes.

I’ve studied speech pathology and audiology in college and received a ton of education on working with exceptional learners and students with disabilities. one recommendation that i have is to be mindful of the words that you are using to describe yourself and your child. for example, instead of saying autistic toddler , you can say i have a toddler with autism or i am a mom of a child with autism. this “with” language helps reinforce the idea that your child is not defined by her disorder. this is very important when bringing awareness to autism.
