Honey, it doesn’t matter what other people thinks. People will judge no matter what. If she’s running around, they will judge... If she’s attached to you, they will judge… at the end of the day, you’re just keeping your daughter safe. So let them judge and you do what’s best for you and your daughter. No one knows how to love and keep her safe as well as you do! You’re a great mom!

I know how you feel because in our culture you just don’t do that. However, it is for her safety. I’m a sped teacher and I currently have a runner in my class and our main concern is keeping the student safe . And remember the goal is you are teaching her the appropriate behavior by using the item and the hope/ goal is one day she won’t need it . ❤️

Give it a “human” name! Maybe something Spanish! ❤️ That way you can say “let’s take ____” to the store versus “let’s take the _____” to the store. The personification will help you normalize it, make it apart of your family, and care less what others think! Family is who/what protects us, so it’s a family member for sure!

At this point l, I can give 0 f*cks what anyone says and thinks. I am a parent and I will protect my child at all costs. This is a great ideal💡 . I will surely recommend this tool for special needs. I am not a parent of a special need child but I can appreciate learning. Like you stated, if she wasn't feeling it, you was not going to use it. I understand Anthony's point of view too with the stigma of the "leash" concern. Keep being the great parents you both are with Anne. It was the excitement in your voice for me. It looks like you were holding hands.🤗🤗

Hi Vaughn, please use the harness!! My daughter was two and got lost in a mall, during Labor Day weekend!! I thought I was never going to see my child again. I quickly went and got the "leash," harness, tether. After her getting lost, it didn't matter to me one iota what the damn thing was called, my child was with me and still had her pseudo independence. Like you said, gotta keep her safe.

We have one with butterfly wings for my 4 year old grand daughter on the spectrum and I tell people you don't know my struggles. She will run and hide and can not tell people her name and she does not understand danger. So I use a harness to keep her when we went to disney and she stayed in her stroller most of the time. Special needs call for special care and handling.

Sis, from one autism mom to another, do what you need to do for you and your daughter! Some dads just have a different relationship, and that's ok. My husband doesn't do my daughters hair. And her behavior when we are out is not always the same with him as it is with me. So when it's just me and her, I make the necessary adjustments. As for the perception of everybody else, y'all ain't with me when I'm shooting in the gym! You know what I'm trying to say! LOL

I love how transparent you are with the safety measures you're taking with Anne. My grandmother adopted my uncle, who is on the spectrum, much later in life. Her anxiety around going places and losing him has lessened tremendously. Thank you so much for sharing💚

Fingers crossed Vaughn! My autistic son is 7 and I mostly grocery shops without him or do curbside pickup if I don’t need produce or veggies. However, I have noticed that he has gotten MUCH better now that he is older. They worked on that a lot when he was in ABA. Pre-covid they did community trips to the grocery store with the kids. Best of luck and yes f what they think 😀

I bought this same harness for my 7yr old son, who is also on the Spectrum. At first, he was very reluctant to use this, but now he knows that it's to ensure he's safe. I love that it has a locking mechanism that only the parents can use, ensuring safety. Not only do we use it for when we are out and about, but his teachers also use it because they also know that is a runner, and have had several "escape sessions" in the past while at school. Don't let anyone deter you from using this. We have gotten the "stares" and negative comments in public, but I don't let that bother me! I have to make sure that he is safe, and that's what matters most! 💕

I had one for my son and I felt some kind of way about it… but he use to bolt and run… I would put it on when we would go to amusement parks or anywhere there were large crowds of people… I got over the stares and what people may have thought; one lady felt the need to open her trap to which I replied like a mother who wanted to keep her son safe, to which she had no comeback. Keep your baby safe and your nerves intact; people will be alright… it’s a love thing

Hunty, other people who have an negative opinion can kick rocks. A child safety is very important rather special needs or not. This video was very insightful and helpful for me, as I am a mom of a autistic 2 year old who runs any moment you let him go. To see that Ann was so receiving of the harness made me more confident with trying one, because I had been thinking about it for awhile. I rather my child be safe than a accident happen within the blink of an eye because he got away for a second. Love your videos, your so real 🥰

Vaughn, your grocery store may be able to assist you by assigning an employee to help you shop. Call or go to customer service and ask for help. Another option is using the Pickup or Delivery service of your grocery store. Also Shipt, Instacart and Amazon can deliver your groceries as well. I have a chronic illness, a disability now that prevents me from in store shopping. Those times that you really need to hand pick items that warrant in person shopping, wait for Anthony to come home. I usually ask my daughter because she knows how I shop and what I like. I used to pickup groceries on the way home after work without children it was stress-free! The stress of chasing a child, looking for your child is horrible, I felt like I had several heart attacks looking for my daughter when she was a toddler. I'm a single parent, I speak from experience my daughters are 36 and 40 years old now and I'm the grandmother of four wonderful children. I hope this information is useful.

Im late watching this vlog and this may have already been addressed but I experienced the same issue with my son with ASD. The Caroline Cart was a life saver and if your favorite or frequented stores dont have them; put in a request at that store that they order one. Your money and support goes to the store and therefore they want you and your family to feel comfortable and safe as you shop too. It may even require a letter but completely worth it.

My 5 year old daughter is autistic. When she was little we had to get her a backpack with an attachment that I would connect to my belt. We had to get it to keep her safe because she would get so excited and distracted by things. She loved the backpack because she knew it meant that she got to go somewhere and walk around. It became a routine: if you want to go let’s get your shoes and jacket and backpack. Now that she is older she doesn’t need the backpack. However, sometimes I have to nudge her towards the car because she still gets so distracted by pretty flowers. My husband witnessed how far she would run away so he would always make sure that I had the backpack. My husband goes through a lot safety drills at his job so he understood how dangerous her running away was; especially her being so distracted that she can’t follow the family safety protocol. I noticed that many people looked approvingly, especially when they witnessed other kids just all over the place. Meanwhile my 3 children were well within reach and listening to me. My youngest was the only one on a tether.

Don’t feel bad. My nephew has adhd and he was so hyper as a kid so when he got to walking stage my sis got him a “buddy” and she got a few stares and some sideyes but it honestly was for the best. We as black people all know the stigma of leashes and etc, but No one knows anyone else lifestyle and child’s temperament so I don’t think anyone should judge. He’s 8 now and is still hyper as ever but I can count so many times that buddy saved his life. His was basically a owl teddy bear attached to a wristlet so I think that it’s perfectly ok. My sister, I cracked up, when Anne undid your velcro wrist band and ran away. Miss Anne is smart and too cute. Seriously, I understand the needed to use the "mommy's helper." If I needed one, I would use one, too. Peace and Blessings 💙💛🙏🏽

Hi! I had one waaay back in the day for my daughter. We were going to Six Flags (she was about 3 or 4) and Someone suggested it to me to prevent the CRAZIES from snatching her in .0004 secs. I continued using it in the grocery store and any place that was crowded. Do what’s best for you and YOUR baby. Thank God I raised my child before ppl WE DONT KNOW had an opinion about others life choices. 😩

Listen you are the parent and you want to keep her safe…so do what you feel is best! I have seen something similar but it was a backpack style…small cute bag. Maybe try that😊

It's such a good idea! This is what I was thinking of in the last video. They have cute ones with like a teddy backpack. Better safe than sorry

The "tether" is ok, I was always against it until I saw this version. My niece is autistic and she would benefit from this, no more cart for her either. Tfs, your home is beautiful as well

The scene at 13:30 had me CRY-ING! Then Dad over there laughing and egging the kids on. That’s how it is with my husband too! I just ended up saying y’all kids and daddy can have each other, I’m reclaiming my peace !🤣

I sell baby clothes and essentials and I do sell harnesses. I gave them to my nieces for their kids and they used them. We here in the virgin Islands don't look at things like that. It's the safety of the child, with or without a special need. You do you and protect your child and save yourself the stress of having to run and chase her around while you are out.

I used to feel a way about the "leash", but times are different. Do what you must. I'd rather risk a rolled eye, over losing a loved one.

I’m in my 30s and my mom had one. I was a overt friendly and a wanderer. Lol it was necessary. You do what you have to for your kids safety.

I totally agree with doing what you have to in order to protect and keep your child safe. I too have issues with my son on the spectrum and following me in the stores and he is getting too big for the shopping cart and quite frankly wants no parts of it. One thing I have come to learn is with children on the spectrum, teach them the way they learn. So if by using the harness will develop Anne’s skills and understanding in following instructions and following you in the stores than it’s a go!

OMG, this vlog just HELPED ME! It is difficult to defer to using things that were frowned upon like "what the..." But safety is absolutely first when it comes to our children. This vlog just gave me courage to do what must be done to keep our family safe. Great vlog, as always!!!

The safety tether you purchased for Anne Boo seems to be a hit; the color was also a bonus! When she pulled the wrist band loose and ran I hollered 😂😂. I pray it all works out well🙏. Now, girl you make everything you prepare to eat look yummy. I've wanted to try that Ezekiel bread; can you compare it to something? I saw it at Traders Joe's. Great vlog as usual❤

Unfortunately, I was one of those people (I was a teen) that talked bad about the moms who had a “leash” on their child😩 Little did I know, years later I would use a backpack harness for my child😅 I stayed holding his wrist every where went, so when we went to Disneyland, I hurried up and bought that backpack😂.
