I was on team Erik (That's the Phantom's real name for those who never read the book). But Raoul, born and raised with a silver spoon up his ass and who already had all of the advantages the world could offer, ends up with the girl. She dumped the poor man who loved her and guided her career to the success it became and married the rich guy who was born to everything and didn't have to work for diddly shit. Ah yes, Giuseppi Verdi was right way back in 1851 when in Rigoletto he wrote La Donna E Mobile (Woman is fickle)!

I know this reply is two years late but just wanted to say: Erik was also a ruthless murderer and often posed serious danger to Christine's life. He definitely did aid her in her singing at the Opera but it was more of an infatuation than love for her because she'd been the only person to show him compassion all his life - and even that was because of his façade as the Angel of Music that her father had told her tales about. Christine was also shown to have known Raoul long before she'd joined the Opera and also have reciprocated feelings for him until she'd become trapped by the Phantom's schemes. But I agree - I look at Erik as a tragic hero whose only joy gets taken away from him. I've never felt sadder for a character in a book than I've felt for Erik.
