Three brand new homebrew games for the MSX computers, from three different authors, and published by Cote Gamers in France have arrived, let's check them out together.
Developers continue to push the MSX hardware and show its capabilities, these three are no exception. One of the titles has been written for MSX 2 (or greater) systems and really demonstrates how good a platform it is.

The trick to Rabbit Adventure is learning how to use the run button. You can do a very high jump if you tap run for less than a second before a jump. Also, don't know if it's in the international version manual or not, but the game supports the "Gaming LED" cartridge as a fun bonus.

Yes I worked that out after reading the instructions (I added a 2nd play after the 1st one), plus it didn't help that my auto-fire on my arcade stick was turned on.

@@electricadventures Does the manual mention the LED cartridge support? I hope someone outside Japan starts making them someday.

That last game was like a cross between NES Super Mario Bros. and arcade Wonder Boy 😁

They definitely threw in some themes they loved. Heaps of hidden things to find and work out too.

Making new games for hardware that's older than the median age of gamers is the most wasteful use of talent and resources I've ever heard of.

Well no it isn't people need to start somewhere, writing games for a limited system is very good practice for writing optimized code, focusiing on performance. In additionl writing a game for a modern system requires a team of developers and can take a long time to complete, whereas titles for old systems can be attempted by a single person and put together in a short timeframe. If you have two people applying for a job at a modern game developer, and they both went to University and learnt how to program. One makes games for old systems in their spare time, one does not. I know the one I would employ, as I know they have a passion for game programming for a start and would be able to work things out without their hand being held.

@electricadventures The "it takes more than one to make a modern game" is straight up cope. I'm not talking AAA titles, you're being intentional disingenuous. Your analogy is ass because that's not how "modern triple AAA" devs hire, which is what you're trying to pull your cope from. They diversity hire, your skills do not matter. Seeing "I wasted my time making a game on an out of date system whose code and file structure no longer applies to the current computing world" on a job application in this industry isn't a shining accolade, it let's your employer know you waste time on archaic crap that NO ONE uses any more. These aren't legacy systems like water filtration systems running on windows 3.1, these are f*cking video games, glorified toys. No one cares if you can write NES code because it's no longer relevant to ANYTHING in today's world.
