Welcome back! That's a solid day walk, I've always stayed at High Camp Hut the night before to make life a bit easier...

Thanks mate! Staying at high camp hut is probably the smarter way of doing it haha, but part of me actually enjoys the tough day walks too. Mt Weld, Picton, spring to mind. Or more recently, a huge day out to Mt Sedgwick from the Tyndall plateau. I'm keen for the area to reopen, although I may hold off on visiting so it's not too busy haha.

Thanks! Yes this was a seriously good trip :D I could be wrong, but as of today, I believe this area is still currently off limits due to track damage from the bushfires.

Awesome videos keep them up! Great to get a short vid for insight of the tracks and so recent! My idea is maybe have a 30 second intro where you discus how easy it is to get to the start (carpark) of each walk with pictures of turnoffs and the car park itself, as theese are common questions that get asked all the time in popilar forums. If you already have a video explaining what the track is like and how to get there, people can just link your video, resulting in you getting more veiws and a possible following of people wanting a heads up on their future walks 👍👍

Thanks for watching! That's not a bad idea actually, I suppose the thing is a lot of the walks I do are solo, so there's no way I could film road access, etc, but I guess photos and simply narrating over the top in post-editing is an option. Something for me to think about in future videos :)

A Dash cam would sort out the solo issue, if not then even a zoomed in photo of the map or google maps link showing the true start of the track would be VERY handy and/or maybe where you can leave a car. Some other stats would be interesting and only a little more effort - for example start and summit times (You can get this info from your photos after your walk) plus return time. It has always been tricky to know if you'll have time to do the walk and having a real world time makes it a LOT better than the times in the Abel books that have so far been way faster than anybody I know can achieve. I will keep watching your videos regardless as I use them to know what I am getting in to :D you do show the details really well already.

Is there a website where you can track your peak baggers list and points?
@LucasChamberlain
@LucasChamberlain 6 жыл бұрын
M P R Search into Google Hobart Walking club peakbaggers list and you may find something there. There are also a series of mountains called Abels which also have their own website (as well as two books)

Considering doing this peak sometime in the next week or so. I'm from NSW and have explored some of the verticality of places such as Morton National Park's The Castle and the Bungonia Red Track. Recently completed Amos, which seemed pretty straight forward. Wish me luck with this one. That section toward the top looks a little nasty.

All the best! That bit near the top does become too much for some people. I went back up Anne earlier this year and still found it tricky despite having done it before.

Did you do it yet? If so how do you compare it to your other walks?

@Quick Car Well... The morning was looking good. When we arrived in the National park, my wife and I saw the peaks and just felt a wave of goosebumps - it was that beautiful. We made it up Eliza and over to the shelf, but had to turn around due to heavy winds (it hit about 50kph) and brought snow. We were distraught that we had to turn around, but didn't want to risk getting caught in ever worsening alpine weather. It took us about 3hrs to get from the creek car park to Shelf Camp. I'd describe the hike up Eliza as similar in technicality to Cradle Mountain, but the rock scramble was possibly steeper, longer, and overall (subjectivity alert) more fun. Both my wife and I agreed that the views and surrounding areas around Eliza and Mt Anne are more picturesque than Cradle, but hey, I'll let other walkers be the judge of that. 😉 Eliza alone is worth going up. This national park is a hidden treasure and the views are spectacular. If you are familiar with NSW and you can do Bungonia's Red Track, Eliza is a piece of cake in comparison, and if you can do The Castle at Morton National Park, the scramble to the peak at Mt Anne looked a lot easier - it's just the weather that may make things unpleasant. My wife did most of this walk 17 weeks pregnant. 😉 Of all the National Parks we visited in Tas, I'd say this is one we would revisit first when we come back to the state next. That walk was just spectacular and well worth the effort. Would you describe yourself as a hiker with bouldering or technical experience?
@quickcar5255

@@ChogTheGreat I just hike for fun and leave the bouldering in gyms. A shame about the weather as it's a good scramble to the top.

Goes to show how small Tassie is, if you can nearly see most of the peaks. Except cradle and Ben Lomond of course. 👍. Federation peak looks crazy to climb.

Time to do the Circuit with the re-opening and refurbishment ? There never was an Anne Special map - will they make one now? I wonder if they'll mark the trail for heavy white-outs on high and safen or leave The Notch as is ?
@LucasChamberlain
@LucasChamberlain 2 жыл бұрын
I'm doing the circuit with a friend in late February, so I'll be able to find out what it's like at The Notch. It wouldn't surprise me if they made a specific map for the Mt Anne circuit - Frenchmans has one. Not that I'd rely on it for navigation - the geology is complex out that way and the map just doesn't pick up on all the intricacies.
@sergianic
@sergianic 2 жыл бұрын
In nice weather the Circuit and Notch is great. But in a white-out and storm Shelf Camp to Picone could be called the Death Zone. I guessed that was why they never produced a map, as you say of the terrain in general as well. Like the Southern Ranges in bad weather.

great video mate and good job getting to the top of Mt Anne ,I did that walk walk in November and got as far as where you detour to Eve Peak ,took me 4 and half hours to get that far. I was exhausted and the weather started closing in so decided to turn back, I didn't want to be climbing down those boulders in the rain .Absolutely magnificent country

@LucasChamberlain 6 жыл бұрын
bazil61 Thanks! Yeah, I doubt I'd attempt Anne in anything but the weather which I had on that day, so I reckon you made the right call. Magnificent country for sure! I'm looking forward to completing the entire circuit one day.

Wow great Day Walk! You love to punish yourself, that's a fair effort in one day.... Fantastic views and scenery and love your narration. Keep up the great work and I will be working my through your channel. Just a thought you could use a dash-cam or go-pro for your vehicle then show the directions for getting to location and chat prior with a map maybe. Viewers would appreciate that I'm sure. Please don't take as a criticism just a suggestion. Thanks really enjoyed this one. 73 Rodney VK7HAM.
