My first hike up Mt Barney SE Ridge - intended to give some insight to others planning the same hike for their first time. Ascend Via SE Ridge - Descend Via South Ridge also known as Peasants Ridge

Woohoo!!! I finally did SER yesterday!! It was an absolutely fantastic experience!! Had the song from 3:10 and another song alternating constantly all day in my head hahaha. Thanks again for sharing, certainly helped out having it in my head when i got to certain sections, the video does make it look scarier than it actually is though!

Thanks Joe, I watched this video several times and when I was out there last weekend I recoginsed a lot of the bits and pieces of your video which is like a marker for me, I knew I was on track.. Fun hike I enjoyed it. I found the descent harder to stay on track even though it well marked.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed the hike, it’s a pretty cool place. I know what you mean about harder to stay on track; I was there only a few weeks back and also found it difficult to stay on track returning back down the mountain. Looks like bush fires of 2019 had an impact on the trail.

How good is it - tough slog but so worth it 🙂

Is the climb Harder than tibro or beerwah?
@joe_outdoors_australia4 жыл бұрын
I haven’t hiked either of those mountains so can’t really comment. Tibro looks really intense but definitely on my bucket list.

@@joe_outdoors_australia Theirs one pretty sketchy section @ Tibro. But the rest is a fun Scramble.

Done both beerwah and tibro and thinking of doing barney se ridge next and wondering the answer to this too

You know it's a funny thing, i went from "Nah i don't think i can do that" To "Yeah i reckon i've got this" in less than 6 months. Courtesy of doing stuff like this on my other channel LoL. Check it out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3yWiplqe6l-kLs&ab_channel=WildDonkey

@@joe_outdoors_australia Scared the hell out me at the time, but it was a hell of a day! It was supposed to be 2 short pitches and the rest climbing. All I can say is I'm glad we had enough rope hahaha

Great video and editing. I did the SE ridge a couple of months ago. I agree you have to be super fit. Not suitable for kids unless they are super fit a confident. I climbed it by myself. I didn't see one person going up and 3/4 of the way down. Had mobile reception most of the way.

Hmm South East just looks too sketchy for me. I did Peasants the other day and thought, "Yeah i can give SE a go" after watching this i'm having second thoughts...
@joe_outdoors_australia4 жыл бұрын
I felt like that before giving SE a go after watching footage of the hike. I found taking it easy and going with a friend made a massive difference - knowing there would be some sketchy sections decided to take the hike with the option of turning around should I find it too intense. The only way of knowing is by giving it a go to see how you feel. My next challenge will be Logan’s Ridge, quite exposed for most of the hike, and I’m going through the same mental challenge building up to that one ⛰ 😅

@@joe_outdoors_australia I've got some mates who are trying to get me out to Logans. There's a few spots at Flinders Peak they say are good Logans training. You come up on the east side instead of the normal tourist trail.
@joe_outdoors_australia4 жыл бұрын
@@Spacegoat92 cool - yeah I’ve done Flinders Peak, but not from the east side.

@@joe_outdoors_australia There's a very fait trail leading off from the main fire trail on the South Est end, then the trail disappears and you're on your own LoL
