Some of the best video footage of a volcano. Even more impressive is the fact the video was shot in low resolution 480p. Great optics and a solid tripod brings this all back into sharpness.

About 1971 I was in Sicily while serving in the U.S. Navy. Some of my fellow shipmates and I went to Mt.Etna to take a half track tour up one of the cinder cones, possibly from the same location as in the first shot of this video. A week or so earlier there had been a sizable eruption with lava flows and boulders the size of houses ejected and landing in the nearby town. No amount of money could persuade the tour guide to take us up the slopes. At night you could see the glow of red hot material several feet down through the surface of the ash layer. It was a phenomenal sight and experience. I feel very fortunate to have witnessed that.

Question..If this lake fills up..it could potentially create a massive blast right??
@IsamuKITAFUJI3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question Mr Zulegar. My answer is NO. Since Kilauea volcano is hot-spot type volcano most of the lava flow ex crater is smooth and calm. There is not enough strong explosive power produced in the magma chamber through mouse of crater via lava conduit to the crater in comparison with volcanoes near the subduction zone like pacific ring of fire.. Therefore lava flow is common in stead of explosion. Otherwise we could not get close to lava lake edge less than 7m to lava lake.
