Mt. Rainier - Kautz Route 2015

It was a long, arduous drive through the valley that separates the Siskiyous and Cascades from the Coastal Range of the West Coast. Nevertheless, well-known mountains spotted the landscape and made it like a slow, but a pleasant game of connecting the dots. There was much anticipation, as soon, 16 members of MAA would meet at the hub of the Pacific Northwest for an attempt at summiting the most respected mountain in the contiguous U.S., Mt Rainier.

Great memory. That first day was a doozy with 7K of ascent with technical packs to Camp Hazard.

Great clip, thanks! Climbed this route in the late 70's with Dave Mahre. He was father of alpine skiers Phil and Steve. We all worked at White Pass at the time. Dave climbed a lot. Also raced moto-x with Phil and Steve near Yakima back in the 70's. I think Phil still races.

WOW! Thanks for documenting this. I climbed this route in June 2017. The conditions were very warm, slushy. Not the technical climbing here but very unstable snow and it took over four hours for everyone in the group to descend the Chute. It's nice to see it from a different perspective! Thanks.

Thanks so much for recording this! My GoPro malfunctioned during the entire chute of our own 2015 Kautz route summit end of July summit (Alpine Endeavours). Very similar conditions here.
