Mt Samuel Four wheel Drive Trek - on Alpana Station Outback SA

This was a trek I took in May 2019, a gated track with permission from Alpana Station at the top end of the Flinders Ranges.
Was created from my dash cam in which the telemetry shows how slow and difficult much of it was taking around five hours to complete.

Thanks for the video, Carl. Three mates and I did this track just last week in a Mitsubishi Pajero. We had never done any proper four wheel driving before, but even though the going was very slow at times, and certainly very challenging, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The map and running sheet provided by Alpana Station was very helpful and also added interest to the trip with explanations of what we were seeing along the way. Yes, the Mt Buggery Gorge is challenging, especially for us novices, but seeing as much of it can only be done at walking pace, a couple of us were able to get out and guide the driver though the worst parts. We stopped for lunch along the way and we took time out to admire the scenery and take some photos. For us four old retired blokes it was an experience we won't forget.

Thanks for enjoying, what you saw and now you know that was condensed from some 5 hours of footage, great trip to take. You were lucky with a spotter I did it all by myself.

Drove this track in June 2020 and found Mt Buggery Gorge quite challenging. Then drove it again in Nov 2020 after 40mm of rain and a flood through the gorge. The floods deposited around 60 cm of gravel and made the drive a whole lot easier in the gorge , but the tracks in and out were badly cut up and were much harder to drive. Managed to rip off part of rear bumper on the track in. First damage in 3 years of 4WDing with our Triton.

Yes the gorge was challenging I admit was the only bit on the track that was!

Thanks for sharing. Planning to do this track in Sept 21. Do you recommend a second spare tyre?

No I have never needed a second and in fact with my Nissan Patrol have never used the one I have! If you have a 4WD like mine all should be good just take your time and care.

@@travelandadventurewith4x4 Mine is Nissan Patrol as well. Y62S5. Tyres are 35" YOKOHAMA GEOLANDAR X-AT G016 LT 285/75R18 129S It is not the common size tyre and hence the question. In Bendethra I have seen similar sharp rocks and a friend with Navara busted a tyre on a steep track. Thanks for your prompt reply and once again thanks for taking the time to post your video. Been to Bendethera as well no tyre problems but that was some years ago track may be worse now I guess.
