Mt. Shasta Enduro Stages 1-4 Practice / First Time Racing The California Enduro Series Round 2 2021

After racing China Peak’s Round 1, Mt. Shasta was up next only two later for round 2 of the California Enduro Series. This video is my first look of the park & first time riding out here in Shasta’s infamous “Moon Dust”
I started the day on stage 4 following some good friends & it caught me by complete surprise being perhaps the gnarliest stage of the race. After seeing many videos of this place I can say first hand it was much harder and more difficult to ride then I expected! Almost felt like I was learning how to ride my bike all over again.. My bike handling skills were definitely being tested hard just staying in control and on top of the bike for the whole weekend.
I’m leaving most of the stages completely uncut for future generations of racers and riders who may be interested in seeing how I managed the stages for my first time. It’s pretty amazing how different practice day and race day conditions changed day after day!
This was a two day race so I’ll show stages 1-4 in this video & stages 5 & 6 practice in the next. I’ll conclude with my race day footage the same by splitting the stages in the order I raced them.

I’m really enjoying watching these vids you posted. I was hired two months ago as the MTB program director at Mt Shasta Ski Park. It’s fun to hear your commentary on the trails as you ride. It’s an interesting place to ride. I moved up from Santa Cruz and was used to the redwood loam. I got humbled when I started riding at Shasta. It’s made me a better rider and it gets more fun the faster I try to go. (Not that I’m fast... ha!) I’ve got plans for the trails up there. It’s going to be a slow process, but I hope next year you notice some positive changes. Anyway, it seems you had a good time Which makes me happy. Cheers man!

Hey Todd that’s awesome to hear & glad your enjoying my vids! This was my first time ever seeing the place so my commentary was raw and honest as I had no clue what to expect. I can totally see how riding out here makes you more aware of bike handling skills as it’s completely different than any other places I’ve ridden and it takes a lot of focus and pre planning to deal with the unexpected. Really did enjoy this place even tho it was a pretty good challenge just to keep the bike going the direction I intended. Good on ya for getting the job to help make this place even more awesome for the future that’s rad! There’s tons of potential and room for improvement so I will be stoked to come back and see how the place evolves year after year. One ride back on my local “blow out dusty trails” and it’s honestly felt like hero dirt in comparison 😂 lol. So I feel like my short time riding out here gave me some new skills and a whole new perspective on trail management. Yeah Steven that runs CES is a rad dude. I’m not surprised he got you in. Your coverage is great. We seriously have your channel on repeat up here. It’s playing all your stuff. It’s been fun walking in and seeing you riding a new area and I try to guess where it is. Are you going to be able to race all the CES events? It would be cool to see them all stitched together at the end of the season.

Hah, yea challenging has a new meaning after China Peak & now Shasta.. I just keep on learning with every new race venue. Once I think I’ve found a new level of anti grip and gnarly, the next place shows me a whole new world and level of riding unlike anything I’ve experienced before ☝🏼😄

Hahah.. honestly it was one of the most difficult places just to even stay on the bike, so with that said it was a fun challenge to just try and maintain bike handling skills and control all weekend! A bit stressful and mental knowing you can’t ride as fast as you’d like.. but it was really good cornering 101 and it felt like I had to relearn how to ride my bike & race it altogether 💁🏻‍♂️🌋🚴🏼‍♂️💨 If you look at Shasta the mountain normally has some ice and snow on it year round.. this year it had Nothing on it at all! Insane how dry and dusty it is but maintaining a place like this is probably near impossible too.. I’d still go back and race again 🤘🏼
