Today I am going on an exciting, challenging, and beautiful ride up Mt. Washington in New Hampshire. The Mt. Washington Auto Road winds to the top of the 6,000 foot mountain and has spectacular views and drop-offs that are not for the inexperienced rider.
I filmed my entire ride up, a few shots at the top, and the whole ride down. I hope you enjoy this ride along video on Mt. Washington, if you do, please subscribe to my channel and leave a comment down below.

The Indian was great! Getting her ready for a ride all the way across the country and back with a stop in Sturgis.

The dirt section has FINALLY been paved. All that money they made and all those years they left it unpaved is beyond me.

I was flying over it recently (I’m a commercial flight instructor in New England) and I noticed it looked different but I couldn’t tell from altitude. Great news they finally did it but you’re absolutely right - why the heck wasn’t it done long ago? Will be nice when I go back over this fall and update the video.

Just did this ride a couple days ago. Note that the MTW Auto Road is now 100% paved - BUT there are always sections that have repair work done recently. Yes, the road is fairly narrow and requires your FULL attention for the entire length. I did come across a couple 4-wheel vehicles coming from the opposite direction that were well into my lane. Again, the ride IS amazing, but you need to be very aware of your surroundings as you ascend/descend. Not really for the beginner motorcyclist...

Thanks for the update on the road being fully paved - that's great news! I will be heading over there again this fall when the leaves change color to update this ride video and do it again. (I teach flight instruction in New England so I fly around the white mountains often, but it's been 2 years since I've done the Mount Washington Road). Last time I was over it I noticed it looked a little different on that corner, but I wasn't close enough to tell if it was pavement or not.

I love your fearless nature. I’m the opposite. Enjoyed your video. I’m here because I’m planning a trip to the White Mountains and I want to do the auto road but I’m petrified.

I took my son up the cog rail in Mid August 2016. It was sunny, in the low 80's in the am at the bottom but it was freezing, thick fog (could not see for more than 30 or 40 feet) and windy as hell at the top. Some people say my car is a mess (it is) BUT I usually have a few pullover sweatshirts and knit hats in the car and we layered up pretty well. A lot of others did not have anything like that and were miserable at the top. Fortunately they sell such things (make sure you are ready to buy if you are without) and plenty of hot food and drink at the top. Now, seeing your video, I'll have to ride up there some time when I get set up with a new ride. Thanks for posting.

I’ve ridden the Tail of The Dragon too many times. Try to get there a 6 am to beat the crowds. A much better road is in Virginia called Back of The Dragon. Much closer to home and very tourist friendly. They are on Facebook . Haven’t been up Mt Washington since I was a kid. Now I’m going on a sport bike. Thanks for sharing.

After living up there for what seems like forever, I never made it up Mt. Washington. Back in 2015, I rode from Charleston, SC to Laconia for bike week but when we got up there it was unseasonably cold. While that trip was on my list, I could only imagine what the temperature was like up there if I was cold on the ground. I wimped out. The only things I miss about NH though are my friends and the roads. Pretty glorious riding.. at least for most of the year.
@MOTOBLADE

It was cold, but I had come 3 hours to do it so I didn't want to turn back. The riding in NH is beautiful, and I think the roads are much better than in Vermont. I go over to NH when I want to have a great day of riding.

Thank you for posting the complete ride up and down. Lots of memories watching this video. I did the mountain in Early June 2019 with my riding group of 16 riders. It was a little intimidating when starting out, but it was mostly a mind game with everyone expecting it to be difficult. You have to pay attention and keep the revs up but the Street Glide is more than capable of doing this. Engine brake on the way down and NO front brake, especially on the gravel. Thanks again. P.S. we were there for Laconia bike week and our ride was bikes only on Mt Washington.

your bike seemed to run fine. I rode my Roadmaster up trailridge rd in the Colorado Rockies and it was about 12,000 ft elevation. My bike coughed and sputtered at little on take off. It ran out fine but rolling away from a stop was sometimes a challenges to keep it from stalling. Fuel injection shouldn't do that. Must have another issue.
@MOTOBLADE
@MOTOBLADE 5 жыл бұрын
I would understand the carburated engine at higher elevation having an issue, but fuel injection should definitely not do that. Might need to get that checked. Chieftain ran like a top up the mountain. Would love to take it out west sometime. Thanks for watching!

I've noticed with my Roadmaster the temp temp gauge is very slow to react, almost to a fault. My old Harley would show high temp fast when the sun came out. It's hard to mind a happy medium.

I think this road on a motorcycle would freak me out. I get nervous on steep winding roads. Add the vertigo and loose gravel. Whoa. How steep does it feel? You don’t seem to be using excessive engine braking on the descent so maybe not too bad.
@MOTOBLADE
@MOTOBLADE 5 жыл бұрын
I just used 2nd or 1st gear on the way down and light braking. Wasn't bad. Feels steep in some areas. Mainly the slow turns on the edge of the dropoff is what scares me. It's an experience though. Glad I did it. Just be careful and take your time, should not have any problems.

How does the ride feel on a typical highway? Vibrations at all? Sore butt or lower back? I take it the bumps on this road were nasty. Does it soak up the road fairly well?
@MOTOBLADE

Soaks up the road and turns it into butter. Could ride this bike all day in comfort and be ready to go for another 8 hours the next day. Most comfortable motorcycle I've ever ridden. Part of why I got it :) Hope that helps!

@@MOTOBLADE Big time, thank you. I'm looking at purchasing one in 2020. So far I haven't really come across anything to convince me not to purchase. I'm moving from a sport tourer/adv bike to something more comfortable for longer days in the saddle. I appreciate your videos and helpful feedback. And keep crossing that border, eh? :P
