The R110A subway cars for the New York City subway were first announced in 1989 and began service on June 15, 1993 on the 2 service. They were taken out of service in 1998 due to brake problems and fire damage. As of May 21, 2024, the A-cars (8001, 8005-8006, and 8010) are being converted into flood pump cars, similar to the B-cars (8002-8004 and 8007-8009) that were converted between 2013 and 2014.

The r110a and r110b were experimental trains to begin with they were pulled when the mta decided they had collected the data they wanted and ordered new sets based on that data with features from those trains

Good news, according to DJ Hammer and other youtubers, all those trains were preserved, like the R110A, R110B, R38, R32, R42, Bu Gate Cars, And R1/9, they recorded all of those retired cars

R38's and R40's got retired because the R46's from Jamaica and Bway-Astoria were moved to Piktin and 207 and the R68's in which some from the N Q and W were moved to the B.

@@RichardWilliams-ok8ld They were moved due to the R160's going into both Jamaica and Coney Island Yards the main cause of NYCT R44's early-ish Retirment was due to body corrosion caused by the graffiti era of the 1970's if the R44's body frames were built with stainless steel like their younger sisters (R46) they would likely still be on the A today.

@@BronXLimited They would've replaced R44 with R179. Also back then the R160 was banned in the Rockaways due to power issues that's why they decided to give Jamaica more R160 so their r46 was sent to Pitkin to get rid if their R38 and r44

The mta should do what the London underground did and improve their trains because the 1972 stocks are 50 years old and are still in use, and also keep the r33 and improve the NTTTs

Didn’t see the old.school R9s. Loved the way those smelled when they pulled into the station. Also remember the wicker seats and fans because A/C was not a thing on the trains back then. During the summer you had to open the doors between the cars to get cool. Only authentic (older)New Yorkers can relate.😁

Today, the R110Bs are in storage or used as demonstrator cars that are non-operational, here's the current status of all cars: 3001: Used as a demonstrator car in the Queens NYPD training facility for shootings on the subway. This car was also cut up to fit in the building
