[MTB maintenance] Ghetto tubeless with pool noodle and T Rex tape

I have been playing with my old clincher wheels recently, looking for cheap and easy ways to set up a tyre so that it is pinch flat resistant and can be riden on a low enough air pressure. In this video, I tried the old pool noodle insert hack as well as T-Rex tape.

Yes, it works. I only needed to redo the pool noodle insert so that it fits much tighter onto the rim.

Thanks for the video. At what PSI do you ultimately expect to be able to run the tires?

In most situations I have the tyres inflated to 22 ~ 30 psi. And in those extreme cases such as long steep mountain roads covered with smaller crushed stones I run them at 18 ~ 20 psi. I should run more thicker tyres with more air volume on those roads in the first place, though.

@@MindDesignFactory I already run my tubed 26" tires at 25 PSI, so I would be curious if I could use this method to take them well below 20 PSI for most things. The only problem may be separation at the bead.

Setup as shown in this video, I (my weight is about 68kg) can run my tyre at 18 PSI without breaking off the bead unless I ride too aggressively. But it all depends on how well your rim and tyre match with each other.
