@MindDesignFactory
@MindDesignFactory 9 күн бұрын

The actual fix is increasing the spring tension, which you do by lifting up the gray inner piece up just enough to rotate it once (clockwise I believe, you can tell by the spring tension increase as you do) and putting it back in the slot. This is needed either due to the spring becoming worn, out or in my case with a brand new remote lockout, they didn't set it right.
@MindDesignFactory
@MindDesignFactory 10 күн бұрын
Prior to this video, I already uploaded another video where I show how to apply tension to the spring: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYDYhKKbZqt7f8Usi=Bf8Bc7P2jS243kkf&t=618 This sticky lockout dial issue is actually caused by the grey plastic part that tends to swell over time. Giving an extra turn to the spring and increasing its tension more than it is supposed to be might be a workaround but it will also render the Lockout dial movement unnecessary stiff.

This problem seems to be similar to what was happening with some SRAM Guide brake levers. The (plastic) piston apparently expands a bit after prolonged contact with the brake fluid and becomes too tight fit in the lever bore. People also fixed that with a bit of sanding down the piston. SRAM also sells replacement pistons which, when measured, are slightly smaller diameter than the originals that the levers came with. But I guess they don't do so with these old model forks.
@GenePavlovsky
@GenePavlovsky 15 күн бұрын
After removing the damper unit from the fork leg, cover the hole with a clean rag. You don't want some dust, dirt, flies etc getting into the fork while you're servicing the damper. Especially if you gonna be using sandpaper right next to that hole :D

Hi, I was about to do regular air can maintenace and found this O-ring at 20:18 is totaly chewed up. I dont know how this can happen. Is there any way to easy replace it without rebuilding oil part of the shock?
@MindDesignFactory
@MindDesignFactory 18 күн бұрын
Is your shock frequently bottomed out while you are riding? Maybe too much bottoming out would have caused the O-ring to be damaged. The O-ring is there to dampen the impact and the noise when the shock is bottomed out. To replace it you have to remove the bearing assembly from the piston shaft. A spiral back-up ring or just a splitted thick rubber washer might work if you want to avoid disassembling the shock. But I wouldn't recommend it. Hope this is of some help 😅

I clearly mention that this kind of stem risers are not suitable for mtb riding in the description. Any sensible gravity rider would stay away from this, yes. But some casual riders who just potter around mountains may find it worth a try to raise their handlebar height more than a couple of centimeters. Have you watched through the video? It clearly shows why this stem riser doesn't work in the first place. I tried to show how to install it in order to render it into a workable stem riser.

@MindDesignFactory
@MindDesignFactory Ай бұрын
As long as I know, normal carbon assembly paste contains pumice particles, whereas anti-slip liquid/paste usually contains metal particles. I don't know how effectively the former would work on metal against metal surfaces. In general, this kind of paste/liquid, whatever particles it may contain, won't have any decisive effect. The key is the highest possible torque that can be achieved in a given condition, I think. Thanks for watching!

While the brake lever is styled like a Shimano lever with a diaphragm (open system) this appears to be a closed system without self-adjusting pistons.

First of all, there is probably no point in comparing this brake lever with any of Shimano levers. It is just that this brake lever may look Shimano-ish. The bladder inside the reservoir of this Meroca lever seems to enable , in theory, the piston to self-adjust. It may do its job, but its effect is so subtle to be noticed for me. Thanks for watching😄

I use PHOTON only in PAS mode without any throttle attached to it. As a torque-based pedal assist system, PHOTON performs superbly due to its powerful motor and well-tuned firmware. I am not an expert wheel builder and actually don't know much about the exact and true mechanics behind various spoke interlacing patterns. My Shimano XTR M988 straight pull factory wheels have 2 cross non-interlaced, but all DT factory straight pull wheels I have ever seen have interlaced. So I interlaced spokes on my build. Personally I feel that 2 cross looks natural with non-interlaced whereas 3 cross looks more natural with interlaced. Also, as a very novice builder, a 3 cross interlaced straight pull wheel LOOKS more stabilised laterally than otherwise. But this is only my unscientific impression. Have a nice weekend!

I think my maximum range on roads could be over 100km if I pedal all the time and keep the assistance at a low level. The temperature was about 20°C. I am aware that there are complaints about the high motor temperature of Photon during full-throttle rides. But it is mostly in Canada and USA, right? Used as a legal EAPC in Japan, UK or EU, Photon works only as pedal assist and it is unlikely that it runs at full power for an extended period of time, I think. Thanks for watching!

Hello, what is the minimum support power that can be set at the first level of support in street mode. Will it be about 50 watts?

On Ride Control app, in my region, you can set the assist power of each levels, Low, Middle and High, between 0 to 1200W in increments of 50W. So the minimum power value you can set is practically 50W, and, in strict meaning, 0W.😅

Thanks for sharing your riding experience with the CYC Photon. Looks like motor temps not an issue for trail riding.

Used only as pedal assist, the temperatures of both motor and controller seem to be ok. But here in the southern part of Japan the air temperature exceeds 35°C in high summer. So I am a bit worried about how the summer heat here will affect the temperatures of the motor and the battery. The motor should work within its thermal safety margin, but its lifetime might be adversely affected. Well, we will see. Let me know how your first Photon ride turns out! Have a nice weekend!

A massive thank you for putting together such an educational video! Seriously, it was clear and easy to follow - I loved it! When you have a chance to test ride the bike more, I would appreciate it if you can comment on how well the torque sensing works on this motor, especially when it comes to those tricky standing starts on inclines. Any insights you could share would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hi, so glad to know that you find this video informative. Actually, I am now editing a video of my short first ride impression of Photon. CYC firmware seems to be very well developed and nicely tuned to make the rider feel as if he were given extra leg power, not any unnatural artificially mechanical assist. Coupled with the sensitive torque sensor, the firmware does a quite nice job to make pedal assist feel so natural and comfort. And no problem with start from halt even on very steep climbs.
