Exactly! But I’ll be honest... I do feel with the amount of riding that I do, that the newer bike geometry’s make riding less of an effort and strain. This beauty will slowly become a wall piece that I occasionally ride on sunny days only. I’ll hopefully transition to a YT Capra 29er in the not too distant future.

I did the same thing with my 2012 Ironhorse Warrior 3.1 26" , I only used the frame , the rest all new , $ 1200.00 upgrade but now it is a beauty and it rides like a dream . By the way , what a remarkable labor of love , the building of your bike . .... and the bike is gorgeous .

Thank you very much, it was indeed a labour of love! I got the frame as a child and we built it using old parts, but unfortunately it never felt really right. A few years ago now, I had to make the decision of either selling it or upgrading it fully. I’m a sentimental with regards to this bike so brought it back to life with modern parts…

Thanks Malcom, great to hear your 26” still isn’t dead. It’s an everywhere rider although more cross-country/trail orientated. Goal is to get a YT 29er Capra in not too long for the more Enduro based riding such as Wales Bike Park or Morzine.

How did you decide on your cockpit set up? I have a little newer version but mine has a 90MM stem and short bars. It's a little too aggressive riding for casual and I'm toying with changing it up some for comfort. Any suggestions?
@alexandermax13
@alexandermax13 Жыл бұрын
I chose my cockpit setup based on my riding style… I’m not much of a climbing fan and prefer fast downhill. Aggressive is also subjective… for Downhill/Freeride a 90mm stem is way too long, however, if you drop to 30/45mm stem like mine you’ll be too aggressive for anything Cross-Country/Climb orientated cycling.

What type of wheels are you running? I have done a very similar refresh to my 2008 FSR expert but I am struggling to find new wheels to work with it.
@alexandermax13
@alexandermax13 3 жыл бұрын
I forgot to mention in the video, but they’re Hope Fortus 26 26” wheels with Pro4 Hubs. I had to replace my wheels after taco-ing the front wheel. Probably the best upgrade (although pricey) as they’re more sturdy/stiffer than the old Maverick rim brake wheels I had.

Thanks for showing your build. I have a similar FSR Expert from 2008 and I just changed the wheels to Tairin after tacoing the front. I need tires too. I can get my hands on Maxxis Minion DHF. Do you know if the 26 x 2.3 foldable fits in the frame, front and rear? No rubbing?

Thanks for commenting! It’s a great bike indeed, and I’m pleased to hear you’re looking at upgrading your bike too. My rear shock is stock and I believe it to be a Fox Float RP23 (Medium). I wish it were a little stiffer but the frame is a little small for me anyway so it’s increase internal pressure to counter.

Hey I have. a 2007 Stumpjumper comp and I’m trying to make it as aggressive as possible and I’m wondering if ur fork is 26” or 27.5 and if it is 27.5 how much travel does it have?
@alexandermax13
@alexandermax13 3 жыл бұрын
It’s a 26” fork as I wanted to still keep it relatively practical when climbing on trails. However I did go for a shorter stem for finer control on the descent (in hindsight a little longer stem would probably make climbing easier). The travel on the Suntour Epixon is 120mm which makes it nice and comfortable... it’s also one of the only air forks I could find on a relative budget for a 26er.

@alexandermax13
@alexandermax13 Жыл бұрын
I’m sorry I don’t fully understand your question. If you have the same frame then it’s an original Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Pro, however some of the parts on it might not be stock (like mine). Aftermarket parts are fine as it makes it custom and more tailored to your riding style.

Well done mate! But one question, you´re sure that a 35mm-stem works well with the Geo of the old stumpy?
@alexandermax13
@alexandermax13 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jan, thank you for your comment. Upon reflection and trial and error I’d probably have gone for a 50mm stem length (as 40mm is a little short) but still using 35mm diameter bars. I think with this setup it’s a little harder to climb but the descends are smooth and precise.

For the front shock you need to find a straight steerer fork with 120mm travel for a 26” wheel (I have an SR Suntour Epixon) - to be honest your RockShox fork is probably really good as it is, maybe get it serviced? For the rear shock, it’s the stock shock (Fox Float RP2) with 100mm travel. I got it serviced a few years back and it works well though a little on the soft side.
