Meet legendary surfer and Mt. Bachelor Ambassador Gerry Lopez

Legendary surfer and Mt. Bachelor Ambassador, Gerry Lopez will be a guest judge at our inaugural Big Wave Challenge on April 30th. This snowboard-only event will feature a series of huge sweeping banked corners, quarter pipes and spines will be shaped into wave-like features for a flowing course bringing the surf to the mountain!

So stoked to find this, Jerry is the modern day Duke. He is is board riding super hero on any slope. To this day the ultimate craftsman, what a legacy...makes Kelly Slater look like a wannabe. I live 10 years on the North shore, trust me I know, a living legend that never had to claim it.

Gerry is the best. He's a grownup. A lot of pro surfers get stuck at a certain point and can't move forward. Not Gerry. He's grown wise and moved with the times. Maybe it's all that yoga -- he's unusually flexible, especially between the ears.

I first started surfing in the mid seventies, I wanted to be goofyfoot because Gerry Lopez was Mr. Pipeline at that time. "he would make the hard things look easy" as opposed to todays surfing where they make the easy things look hard...just my humble opinion.
