I want to share my experience with all of you. I purchased a pair of Trailcross Mid Pro following the size guide on the official website, so measured my foot at 28.8cm and I ordered size 46 2/3 (as recommended by adidas). I received the shoes and they turned out to be too big (too long and too wide), so I had to return them and order a new pair in size 46. These Trailcross are really very big, for comparison I wear size 46 for Magnum Boots, and size 47 for Puma shoes.

I have seen a lot saying the size is bigger than usual, however for my experience, i got size 10 ( my usual size) but i feel that i want a 10.5 instead to have more space on the side since it is narrower. But 10 is still good enough, 10.5 will give more confidence that my feet will not sore after long hours... and i have no choice since its only 10 available on the online store i bought it haha

I wanted these in the mid but they didn't have the green in my size anymore. I went with the Columbia Outdry Facet 45. It has a similar ankle sock thing as the Trailcross mid, so rocks don't get in, and it has no laces so it's cool for biking. Also they're water proof. I hike my bike a lot at the trails I ride and they're working well. Not even sure if they're biking shoes but they're definitely hiking shoes and I like them a lot for MTB.

Dude great review, I guess I’m the odd man out as my FiveTens fit perfectly in my normal size or maybe they are a fluke pair don't know but this is a great shoe indeed. The one thing I would like to mention and to some isn’t big but to me I feel is worth noting are the bumpers inside the shoe to give some added support near the ankle / Achilles. I feel locked into this shoe and when I ride and I like that, no slip no slide. But agree on the laces. Stay cool man, Cheers!

Quality Vid. I've been looking for a flat pedal shoe for road biking. I don't need the protection from rocks, branches, and the like - frankly that gets too hot. Regular running shoes do fine until about 3 hours then things start to go numb (no matter the fitness). Any thoughts on these as all day road shoes? and any particular flat pedal suggestion to pair them with? Thanks
@mtb_alan
@mtb_alan 4 жыл бұрын
I don't do much road biking, but I know these pedal well for a long time. I use the OneUp Components composite pedal, and have been stoked on how comfortable and durable they are. Also, numbness can be the result of a number of factors. A good bike fit is key, i.e. seat positioning, tilt, and height. Hope that helps!

Did you have any issues with pain on your alkalis as a result of the central padding to the heal area and did this go away as the shoe bedded in? I felt this quite significantly in the shop when I walked up and down. Everything else about the shoe looks brilliant. Also, how is the top of the shoe holding up? My 2018 freerides fell apart after 3 years, but I totally accept that and they are still totally useable.

Great review Alan. One comment if I may for riding shoes, show the wear on the sole from the miles you have completed. I have avoided newer FiveTens due to the fact my Freerider soles were Swiss cheese in a couple months, and newer models were said to wear even faster. Running older Impact VXi due to this & they don't hike very well, but wear like iron.
@mtb_alan
@mtb_alan 4 жыл бұрын
No problem. You can see the wear after 300 miles on the Trailcross at 5:28. I've personally had no issue with my outsoles prematurely wearing out. At 5:38, you can see the wear from 1.5 years on the Freerider Pros. Note, the Freerider (regular) that is shown just before the Pros weren't used as long as the Pros. I think rider behavior, pedal choice, and spike height are also factors to consider. But I am mostly interested in how well they perform. If they look all torn up, but the grip is just as good, that's what matters to me.

Love your informative vids always. I'm an (accident prone) old guy who is not yet a shredder like you. The size issue could be down to the fact that Adidas relocated the Five Ten Brand to Germany , though the shoes are made in Vietnam . I ordered a half size bigger than my normal 46 cm shoes and had no issues with the fit , I had tried a pair of free rides that were 46 a few days before and they did not fit . but the ones I ordered at 46 1/3 and they fitted . to be honest I find most shoe makes inconsistent with the same size these days.
@mtb_alan
@mtb_alan 3 жыл бұрын
Interesting thought. As I understand it, the sizing difference results from the Trailcross being an existing Adidas shoe that FiveTen augmented. And Adidas sizing has historically been different from FiveTen.

Odd, I have to go up at least a half size, I usually wear an 11.5 and find even 12 small-ish, I wish they made a 12.25 as 12.5 is a bit large. Do these stretch at all as I need to figure our if I just go large and slightly loose or slightly small and hope they stretch just a tiny bit.

Hi Alan, I'm new to enduro with my ebike and used regular sports shoes until now. About a month ago, I had a silly fall and dislocated my big toe after kicking the ground. Now that I'm getting back into riding, I've decided to buy dedicated MTB shoes to prevent a similar incident from happening again, haha. I'm leaning towards the Trailcross Mid since I live in Spain where it gets pretty hot for much of the year. My only concern is if they provide enough toe protection to avoid similar injuries. Apart from that, they seem great, and I like the added ankle protection. What do you think? Can I be confident with them? Thanks!
@mtb_alan
@mtb_alan Жыл бұрын
Yo! Sorry to hear about the toe. That sounds painful! Glad you're healed up and back at it. Not long after posting this review, I actually had an incident where I smacked the pinky side of my foot on a rock at the side of the trail and the didn't do much to protect me. I would say that for legit protection, something like Freerider Pro or the Crank Brothers Stamp shoe is a better choice. I've been running the Crank Brothers Stamp shoes for the last couple years and have been really happy. It definitely stays hot a lot here in Southern California as well, and the Stamps (or Freerider Pro) are not gonna be terribly cool, but I've been fine with them in the heat. It might mean using some thinner wicking socks. Hope that helps.

Thanks Eduardo. From what I have been told, the Trailcross sizing is in line with other Adidas shoes. But I can't personally confirm. If you find a place that has a good return policy, consider buying two pairs and returning the pair that doesn't fit...maybe? Sorry I can't be of more help.

Hi Alan, I would like to buy my first pair of Five Ten and I chose the Trail Cross mid Pro. I would just like to understand well the speech about the sizes. Having no reference with other Five Ten models, once I have measured the length of my foot and compared with the tables on the official website, do I still have to take half a size smaller than the one recommended by the manufacturer for my foot length? I noticed that the foot length / shoe size chart is identical for both Trail Cross and Free Rider Pro. I hope you will answer me, I need the shoes soon. Thanks for the great reviews and...Cheers from Italy!!!

@@mtb_alan I want to share my experience with you.

Super interesting thanks! So I have Adidas Booster running shoes in 44 2/3, where I usually wear a size 44 for other brands. The size chart for these Trailcross LT's suggests a 44 2/3 with 27.6cm foot length. So you would recommend one half size down, which in my case the closest would be moving down from 44 2/3 to a 44? Or would you suggest adhering to the size table? Thx

Confirmed, pick the size according to the size chart! I ordered both 44 2/3 (10.5 us) which the Adidas size chart recommended based on my foot length, as well as a size down 44 (10.0 us). The 44 was too tight. The 44 2/3 (10.5) fits perfectly. Note: I also have the Trailcross Gtx and regular Adidas Boosters in 44 2/3 (10.5 US). Maybe this helps somebody in the future. 👍

😆 I was joking about the LT thing. I mean, “lemur terrain”? But yeah, it does help to have the right gear. What’s nice these days is that there are good options. I like the Pro better. It pedals better (stiffer sole) and feels more precise. It also soaks up some of the chatter. I also like the greater protection it offers. Some prefer the regular Freerider because it's more flexy and feels more like a skate shoe. This is normally better for more jibby stuff and tricks. So it depends on what you're doing.
