MTD EXPERIENCE, 12.5 HP BRIGGS WOULDN'T START TODAY

My $20.oo riding mower wouldn't start . Thought I had a stuck valve.
Turned out to be much easier than that, but the head bolts were loose and need attention anyway. So it was good that I looked into it.

That is an I/C Briggs and Stratton..., can not kill those easily !!! Best Engine ever made as far as I can see. That Engine I/C Series was the Best Line that B&S came out with..., my opinion!

When I try to start my mower it will make a thud noise flywheel moves a half turn then locks. what could be the problem Briggs & Stratton 12.5, I have checked all of these, battery fuse, spark plug, fuel and oil

Have you checked to see if your starter motor is secure, & not loose on the engine ? if it is take the covers off so you can see the gear on the starter, sometimes they go bad also. Let me know if this isn't the problem and we'll look deeper into figuring it out for you. Good luck

Arlis K Hirsch could have something stuck to the magnets in the underside of the flywheel. I had this happen Engine would turn and stop and lock up Checked in the crank case Checked the head.... Nothing Finally pulled the flywheel off and found a broken bolt head stuck to the magnets... that was jamming Into the coil

what was the cause of the no start high compression? i have the same motor and im going thru the same thing..

***** your EPIC!! that was my problem! my motor was turning the deck belt.. i dont have much slack in the belt even tho blades are disengaged..

lawnside82 Cool, glad that helped. yeah, I felt pretty silly after doing this again this year. Almost to the day too. lol I made a label that says "press pedal to start" for mine now. lol Cheers !

Hi sir, I like your work. Can you help me with Brigg and Stratton 13.5 hp OHV motor? It wouldn't start like yours. I adjust the valve with the feeler guage and clean the battery, terminal, all connection to the battery. Can you help me if you have time and day. Thanks

Have you checked to make sure you have spark ? & Gas

@@TufdogsPlace to do that, sir, do I have to take out the spark plug and start the motor and see if the spark comes from the spark wire,? Am I right Sir

@@shunkenshiro8511 Take spark plug out keep it attached to the wire, Ground the end of the plug to the engine. ( so that it touches metal) Do not hold it with your bare hand, (use rubber coated pliers to prevent you getting shocked ) And turn over engine and look for sparking in the plug

Thanks for the suggestion, turned out to be operator error. I was forgetting to push the clutch pedal and relive the belt tension. ooopsie, lol

I was looking into that & realized this is a flathead. So it's a whole different ball game. Still gotta do something though. Thanks for watching & the input I appreciate it
