Just went second place at our local FNM using a similar build of your mono black discard deck. Facing B/U pirates was actually pretty tough, playing around lookouts dispersal when they have it in hand was hard especially when you want to cast torment of hailfire for max potency. Plus all the little flyers were tough, especially since stormtamer can counter a lot of targeted removal in that deck. Got blown away by Ramunap Red though lol, it was fun. This explore deck looks like it could be good especially with winding constrictor and maybe throw in a Rhonas or two and then two verderous gearhulks to top the curve. I really like how there's a lot to build right now, it excites me more than trying to figure out if the earth is flat or not

What would really be nice is if you could do a section at the end about upgrades for all budget decks. Fatal Push and Blooming Marsh are obvious includes but are there any other options you would consider for an upgrade?

Dev what you think of Durable Handicraft from Kaladesh in this deck? It seems like good value since all our cards here are mostly 2 drops that for only one extra mana we are guaranteed a +1/+1 on our creature, plus with winding constrictor out that's +2/+2 and if the explore triggers then it's actually +4/+4 in total, would you put 3 in there?

Flat Earth Talk ive had some success with handicraft...also Animation Module. An extra blocker or attacker per creature for one mana is a great deal.

Glad harsh scrutiny is getting some love. I've got a RB torment deck using a combination of duress, harsh scrutiny, kitesail and dreamstealer to force a top deck situation, and then beat down with fleet captains and glorybringers I've not had a chance to play it, but I think it will do well.

I tried to build a GU ramp deck and it is straight up not good, maybe you'll have more luck with control. You can probably build a GPG deck with a focus on Fleet Swallower as well

Just built a mono blue control deck centered around "Sanity Swallower" win condition for FNM. Super troll deck, dowsing dagger and seach for azcanta are a must.

Ditto on the Blue/Green.. I thought I had a great build idea by mixing Fabricate with Growing Rites and yeah... Not so great it turned out. I thought I might still try a version utilizing explore or a Merfolk tribal shell, but so far I'm thinking I may have to more solidly control.

I have a similar explore deck but I put in Verdurous Gearhulks for the top end. With all the exploring going on I usually end up with plenty of land and have no issue getting it out.

So I've toyed with a few bits added an obelisk spider to my sideboard for flyers, put 1 rishkar and vraska in for mana fixing and alternative win condition. Taken out 1 seekers squire and one 1 deadeye and added in a rhonas and a second in the sideboard plus a snapping sailback for any late game stalls when not enough explores have triggers flashing it in to get a double enrage with the constrictors, would love to hear thoughts on these choices. Even with the low cost cards being the majority of the deck I'm struggling to get the early game consistency especially against a mono black marionette deck.

This deck doesn't feel like it should be 9 in consistency. It seems really dependant on what you flip in over when you explore.

Kogan the thing is explore itself fixes consistency. If you flip a land then you draw a card, removing a dead draw. If you flip a nonland then you can keep it if you want to draw it or you can toss it to the grave while your creature gets a counter.

Thanks for the video ran it last night with 2 shapers sanctuary and 2 panharmonicon. Sanctuary is huge against energy decks and panharmonicon was good in the dino matchup. But I was blown out by U/B control needed prowling serpopard.

What do you think about changing out ((Duress)) for ((Lay Bare the Heart))? One more colorless mana, same speed, and it lets you target non legendary creatures as well as all the targets Duress hits.

Strictly Better MTG do you think hazardous conditions has a place in the deck/sideboard? Sure its sorcery speed but I ran it as a two of in the 'board of a g/b snake budget deck back in kaladesh standard and it definitely outperformed at 4 mana. It may be a bit expensive at 4 mana but it can kill some creatures and can also prevent blocks In some cases because it effectively levels up your board. Its also definitely not something people expect, which is on theme for the deck. What are your thoughts?

When will we see a 'Revel in Riches' B/U pirates deck m8, we all know you want to build it and we want to see it, so don't hold up the suspense to much longer !! :) As far as this build goes: I would probably replace those 2x Ixali 0/3 things with 2x Tusker (and maybe find room for a 3rd), gives us at least a big thing to play at 5 and with the snake and our otherwise really cheap deck, which likely makes us go wide anyways, it's a pretty nice curve topper.

B/R ? ... interesting, not paying to much attention to B/R revel, as B/U seemed to have a lot of 'treasure generation', but i guess there are red ones as well. Though, how do you protect your Revel? Maybe it's not so necessary atm. but surely enchantment removal is going to sneak it's way into sideboards at some point, from that viewpoint i garnered B/U would be the way to go. Though in all honesty i don't care to much about the colors it's build in, the card just screams 'build around me' and we all know Dev won't be able to resist ;)

Arghore you go Lannary Storm and you only run 2-3 revels. Your real win con is a control plan making them attack into your Gifted Aetherborns, Gonti's, and Herald/Demon of Dark Schemes/Scorpion God. With that you can out resource them easily dropping your big 7drops turn 4 or 5 when Lannary and Trove are making treasures each turn. I am also running 2 treasure maps and 2 dowsing daggers to help ramp out more. If you can get together any of the end game plan you have a whole lot of draw and run a planeswalker or 2 as additional win cons...I got 1 Bolas at the top waiting to swoop in and start digging for their win cons. I'm excited to play with it this weekend and see how it does

Hmm I'm currently playing a similar deck but I run animation module and path of discovery but that swarms and buffs my explore creature combo beyond what it's supposed to because it builds a massive board state with animation module

So winding constrictor into a potential 6/5 jadelight ranger on turn 3 is pretty legit. In case anybody questioned the early game of this deck. Also just as good to go constrictor into rishkar or wildgrowth walker into jadelight. Pretty sweet!

I played against this deck (or one VERY similar) last week. It wrecked me, as I was unprepared for it. Even when I constantly killed the snake before it could do harm, the little guys turn into big guys so quickly all I could do was chump after awhile. Granted, I was playing a janky Panharmonicon brew, I can still see this as doing well...

i played a r g dino deck against a guy who played this deck he had 3 wildgrowth walkers out at one point, I had him down to four health, and then he just started pulling out all these cars with the explore mechanic, I shit you not in 3 turns this man gained 36 health I was speechless
