It does help a lot but its not failproof since you gotta know what you like. At first I had to try a few of them to understand if I liked magnets, flips, plastic, xenokin and etc. At least you can start looking at those that are B+ in your budget range and you gotta find one. So far my favorites are the Legion box (plastic with flip and velcro), boulder, sidewinder/any xenoskin from uguard.

I was surprised at this one, too, and immediately had to check to see if I forgot how to pronounce the word. What made me do a literal double-take, however, was the spelling of "desiccant" at 13:35 as "descecent." One of these "mini usb" ports... well sometimes the Profs age does shine through.
@aidennoir5976 жыл бұрын
T. Actually, that's a legit thing. There's a difference between micro USB, which almost all Android phones and most small things with rechargable batteries use these days, and mini USB, which was more common several years ago but now is mostly phased out. Something using mini USB released today without a cord is a huge inconvenience because you're far less likely to have one lying around than the extremely common micro USB, which would be reasonable to assume the average person has several of.
@aidennoir5976 жыл бұрын

See, I find it really easy to open the dragon shield nest. Use one hand on top where identified, same with bottom, but with the bottom hand use your thumb and middle finder on the finder placements, while using your index finger to push up on the bottom lip of the top lid and it lifts right off very simply. This is why I chose the nest as my deck box of choice, especially thanks to the professor's wonderful review. Top of the line materials, easy (when using my technique) to open and close, absolute safety and security of my cards and as a yugioh player i can place the lid in such a way that it acts as a cover so i can just pull my post shuffled cards right out the box while keeping the backs hidden from sight and safe from wandering hands of "observers" when my gaze is otherwise off the deck/box.
@kapiatgatas5 жыл бұрын
Prof I finally got all 5 colors of the Dragon Shield 100+ nest tower. My Pros: As an engineer its beautifully constructed. I agree, the first box I opened was very difficult. The best way or easiest way for me to open is at an angle bottom up without pressing the circle at the corners. Yes, the cards will fall off if not careful. My Cons: Double sleeves Dragon Shield Matte sleeves snugs tightly when putting in the nest. While double sleeves of Ultra-Pro (Matte, Eclipse, Magic Art), Legion and Ultimate Guard (Matte, Metallic, Land) sleeves fits perfectly with enough room for a couple of sleeve token cards. Dice compartment can only hold 6 D20s. Players like me who plays Super friends, Tokens and Counters needs an additional nest for it. At the end of the day its a matter of taste and I will highly recommend it.

@ffamran40682 жыл бұрын
Realy late to the party, great vid, i ended up going full dragon shield The one thing to note about the nest/nest+ is that its incredibly difficult to fit 100 double sleeved (dual matte+sealable inners) cards, between 96-99 it gets super tight and requires jiggling cards side to side to fit them in, and 99-100 are close to impossible to get them to fit, and will make the box stretch a tiny bit, with the last card sticking out just a millimeter This doesnt impact the box though (at least not that i can tell, yet) the magnets are just as strong, it closes and opens just as easily(or not, magnets are strong) and the tops of the cards dont touch the top of the box when opening Then again, i am a weakling so your mileage may vary but id recommend against that extreme combination because of the tiniest extra thickness from specifically dual mattes and sealables

You may not have considered it on the dragon shield Nest but, you could use the deck side for pulling your cards while playing, and the cover side as a makeshift graveyard. Keeping your cards together and not easily sliding all over the place. I use dragonshield sleeves and every once in a while they get a tad slippery. I feel that should increase the grade some.

@ProteanScrivener6 жыл бұрын
My counterpoint about there not being an easy way to separate the opened nest box is: you don't have to have the cards in the box before separating the two halves to close. You finish playing, maybe remove tokens from the box, separate the two halves, and then put your deck into the box before closing it.

Regarding Zoopin's box, one would think that deck box makers - even new companies - would know by now that they can't skimp on magnet strength for their closures. I would also expect that after all the thought that obviously went into the Titan that they would have used someway stronger magnets, though that may be a case of "just strong enough" vs "so strong it is difficult to open" with a middle ground perhaps requiring a custom item that was over the budget for their target price range.
@OverdriveGamesAnime6 жыл бұрын
On the Contrary. The SEER had slightly stronger magnets, and people complained they were too strong. The TITAN does not have weak magnets. You really have to shake the box for the lid to pop off. You can see that in the review... when will anyone shake their cards? yikes. I am glad you can appreciate the amount of thought and planning that went into the TITAN. We have stronger magnets on the SEER (perfect for Standard) which also has a lower MSRP.

I would grade the Ultra Pro Opus deck box an F, since I don't consider the lights to be a pro. It made you invest in a cable so you can charge it and made the deck box more expensive. Deck boxes' purpose are for storing cards safely, not for show. Eventually, that's going to be tossed around in the backpack or other places where you keep cards.
@druidobianco97346 жыл бұрын
Alpha the professor reserves F only for products that with normal use can cause damage to the cards, so this is a D by his standards because the deckbox does not actively ruin the cards

Holy shit I actually really love the idea of using the Dragon Shields, especially since you can feasibly play a game without having to remove them from the box. just configure it so the cards are facing the back, and with the front and side exposed, and just play with your deck standing vertically, saves space and stops them from getting knocked over. As I wrote this I realized it might be hard to draw cards this way without giving away information to opponents. Unless maybe you had the back facing the other players or something...

I looked at the Titan last night and personally would not give it an A-. I think there were two important cons Prof may have missed: - Non-square corners in the compartment could potentially bend the edges of cards. This has been a con Prof has listed before (specifically in talking about using tool boxes for multi-deck storage). - You can't effectively store tokens in the top and dice in the bottom because as long as one compartment is face-up, the other is face-down. You'd have to constantly be taking the covers off and putting them back on as you needed dice and tokens throughout a commander game.
@OverdriveGamesAnime6 жыл бұрын
If only a player could take their tokens out of their deck box and place them on the table... but that would require some kind of witchery ;P joking aside, we implemented the same design from the SEER deck box. While the corners are not square, cards can't acquire an angle to bend. The spacing was designed specifically with 55 cards or more in mind. If it was perfectly squared, there would be issues with the structure itself, and the box would be able to bend. Feel free to voice questions or concerns on Twitter @box_gods where I plan to address all comments regarding the TITAN.

I dropped them full of dice (and bounty counter pebbles) in the bottom and even my side board with commander deck with NO OPENING upon contact. Durable plastic too. Always enjoy your deck box reviews so much! :D As to a box for you to review, I nominate the Codex by Wizard Foundry. You previously reviewed Wizard Foundry's Grimoire, and it had some major issues. I remember seeing this box (prior to seeing your review) and thinking it looked so cool. Along with the bulky grimoire, they now have a single-deck-sized box called the Codex, which appears to have come out in Apr 2017. I wonder if their products would fare any better now? The boxes now feature a latch, and they claim to be "handcrafted from the finest wood" instead of crappy fiberboard (though I notice that there's no longer any mention of "leather").

I was looking into the nest, and i was think the same thing about it being weird to open. My idea was to put a tab or fabric one in between to pull them apart

Wow I can't believe how easily that Ultra Pro Opus deck box was tearing! It's hard to believe this comes from the same company that makes the eclipse sleeves, they should be holding all of their products to that standard.

I don’t think you reviewed the Blackfire conversion series deck boxes. I picked one up and was very satisfied with it. My favorite part is the lid is completely removable unlike flip lids that can knock things over sometimes. Having the capability to interchange lid colors gives a nice customizable functionality. I would like to see your review of this.

I found a guy that prints old school video game boxes as deck boxes and use those. Everything from SNES, NES to N64 and even old VHS tape boxes.

Just putting it out there. If you complain that the dragon shield deck box magnets are to strong, you need to do some push ups. And side note orientate the top half of the box to where its has a tongue sticking out of the bottom.

I feel as though that Titan box could be improved by building in something to lock the lids in place for better security. But I'm sure that would increase the cost of production, and the MSRP.
@OverdriveGamesAnime6 жыл бұрын
by about 12 dollars on the retail end, and it reduces the life of a TITAN from 60 years to just 4. Honestly, if you don't shake the box aggressively (seriously, why is anyone taking that clearly strained shaking as weak magnets) we can guarantee you a great experience with our products.

Another American pronunciation I had not heard before! Interesting to hear chassis as "chaisiss". Here is Australia this is pronounced "shassie". Great reviews on the boxes btw, ty prof!

Great reviews overall. You do know, however, that you can separate the two halves of the dragon shield one BEFORE putting the cards in when getting ready to close it up right? :P

Not gonna lie, I got the Opus when it first came out. I use it for my DnD stuff. Plenty of room for a Mini and dice beside the card slots that I use for my Cleric and Wizard spellcards. It's pretty cheap, but it's not bad if you take care of it

@OverdriveGamesAnime6 жыл бұрын
I designed it so that the sound would be recognized across a room. I wanted it to sort of resonate in all of our products. If you ever get a TITAN, or want to find one, I am coordinating with vendors to announce flash sales on our new Twitter, @box_gods and I love public feedback (good or bad).
