Hey professor, I really appreciate your product review series. I feel it's a part of the hobby that's somewhat underrepresented though of huge importance. I've personally relied heavily on your sleeve reviews and been checking your reviews for options in lugging all my stuff around (my playmat needs containing). That being said, could you offer any insight at all for display options? I'm sure that the idea of displaying cards rather than playing with them is an anathema for many players but I have certain cards that hold a lot of value for me (both sentimental and monetary) and it has been annoying trying to find a solution that satisfies my OCD in wanting to both protect and have a pleasing display option for them.

I’m actually really happy you made this video. I’m currently building a cube and really need a secure way to store it. Edit: I like that Dex Carrying case. I almost bought the quiver but I felt it was too big. This one looks really neat I might actually purchase it since my cube is small.
@dankmtg5 жыл бұрын
I first used a MTG Gift Box to hold my entire cube with all the basic lands, tokens, and even some boxes of dice. It was great and got the job done, but it’s not the best for transporting since it’s a cardboard box. The corners scuff up and the lid doesn’t stay shut. So I’ve moved it to two Stack’N’Safes, one for the cube itself, and the other for lands, tokens, and dice. The convenient thing about this is that now with any other cubes I make in the future, I just have to sleeve it in the same sleeves so the Stack’N’Safe with the basic lands will be compatible, eliminating the need to buy more lands and sleeves for any more cubes I’ll make later on.

@ikestoddard24585 жыл бұрын
For people on a REALLY restricted budget, I recommend going to a Home Depot or Other hardware store near you and asking for the Stanley small parts organizer or equivalent. Bring a sleeved card and typical deck box with you. It costs between $15 - $21 and has compartments inside for loose dice, counters, etc. I have been using one since 2003. Husky, Ridgid, Plano, and others are competitively priced. It weighs about 1-2 lbs. I have not tried it for cubes, but it ought to fit one.

real answer: you should plan what your cube will be like (mostly the size and sleeves) and then get the correct box for the cube. After that you should actually buy the cards (now that you can put them somewhere)

Probably a box. That way when your cube is done, you’re ready to go. Rather than having a cube without a box. Even if you decide to not continue with your cube, you can still use the box to store various cards, deck boxes, tokens, etc.

@Tolarian Community College: Why did the Aaron Cain box not get points removed for lack of portability? it has no handle and no strap. also the first two boxes look a lot safer for your cards if dropped. IMO for things as expensive as a cube, dont be blinded by how pretty something looks when a 200 dollar box can destroy 10,000 dollars of cards with an accident.
@Mr_Myst135 жыл бұрын
I think this is because of what he said about Cain's works in a video years ago: you don't really bring a box made by Aaron Cain anywhere, it's more of a bling for your expensive cards... That's why the Prof is ok with it being not that portable...
@SuPeRMeGaJoE05 жыл бұрын
I would imagine it's because that it's not meant for transport. I mean you could chuck it in a backpack if you were careful, I have an Aaron Cain deckbox (not the Spartan) and the closure is really tight, and I'm sure the magnets help with the weight. But the Spartan seems more like a display piece, imo.
@curts78015 жыл бұрын
SuPeRMeGaJoE0 agreed. Aaron Cain and the other high end custom MTG paraphernalia exist as a way to bring your hobby into your home’s interior design in a tasteful and elegant way. I admit, that as much as I love the fantasy genres, and the arts and games that follow, I generally don’t like how they leave the home feeling garish and tacky. Aaron Cain and artisans like him provide an outlet to get around this stereotype.
@kwelts5 жыл бұрын
@@SuPeRMeGaJoE0 i'd challenge that by saying that the qualities that make a good cube box (to me) are: durability, portability, customizability, and aesthetics. Aaron Cain only scores on 2/4 and i find it very hard to give anything like that an A+.

@Mig4405 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by acid? In wooden deck box?
@volatilesky5 жыл бұрын
You'll want a stable wood, usually some hardwood like what most specialty custom wood deck box creators use. Pine, spruce, spanish cedar (like for cigars), is to be avoided, with Varnish, lacquer, or stain being fine on the outside, but generally you want the inside unfinished (especially if it's stained) for humidity to be able to be absorbed by the wood. Yes, off-gassing is a thing for woods, as well as natural resins present in the wood, but depending on your maker, they might dry and season wood themselves (just ask), and it will not have the chemical additives common in mass production of lumber for cabinetry/house framing. You could go full on "museum archival quality", but that's a specialised rabbit-hole best left to your own research (and reddit/rpf/facebook groups). collectionsconversations.wordpress.com/2011/10/11/sealing-wooden-storage-equipment/
@oelarnes5 жыл бұрын
@@Mig440 Wood has natural tannic acids that are harmful to paper and cardboard and as such are not suitable for archival purposes. I don't know if it's an issue with double-sleeved cards, though, so thought I would throw the question out there.
@Mig4405 жыл бұрын
@@oelarnes well given that many people have been using these types of deck boxes and storage boxes with magic cards for years, I would say it is pretty safe as a storage option. Hello! My name is Kyle. I’m a longtime fan of your channel and an avid gamer. Over the last year I have started playing a TCG that I have fallen in love with and I want to ask if you might be able to give the game a look and just talk somewhere about your opinion on the game. I’m sure you’re a very busy person and don’t have much time but it would mean a lot for me and all the other people who love this game and want to see it grow. It’s called Universal Fighting System. The concept of the game is that you take moves, skills and weapons from various fighters in video games, comics, anime and specifically fighting games and you use moves from all of them to create the perfect version of your fighter. In this game you get to see battles like Nightmare (SC6) VS Spike (Cowboy Beebop) or Dr. Wily (Megaman) VS Deku (My Hero Academia). The game is currently being developed by Jasco games. It’s not a new game by any means but it has seen a big resurgence over the last couple years. It’s starting to get tons of really new and interesting licenses but because of the stigma to the game from the previous ownership and just it being a fairly small game despite the dedicated fan base it is just missing that one push or endorsement it needs to draw in a really big crowd like vanguard, Pokémon or MTG can. If you can it would be much appreciated if you could give the game a look and maybe say a few words about it. This would mean a ton to all of the loyal UFS fans out there but regardless thanks for even looking at this message. If you have any questions please feel free to PM me on Facebook.
