Hardware shop have the large cases like U1 for 15€ (among the tool boxes) , just put a layer on foam sponge into the top to adjust for size. You don't need this reseller company to add 350% to the price.. It's the perfect storage for my decks and cube and even the archenemy deck, and they even have a lock.
@douglochery86418 жыл бұрын
+Atanar89 Here in the UK those same tool boxes can retail for £24.99 - £39.99 (USD 35.96 - 57.54). I've been using two of these for my card collection for over a year now and the flexibility and protection is great, although those insert walls are universally awful (card or 3-plyboard surrounded by cheap foam). Not perfect but certainly worth a go if you need bigger storage. Oh, and on the toolboxes the lid hinges are typically better on the more expensive models. Don't like the hinge? Go get a toolbox instead.

I actually like the naming convention, it makes it easier to buy and search for online and store. Its very simple and logical. I say this for one reason, when buying online and searching for specific products some companies use names then try to add on words like 'premium', 'hyper', 'gold', 'silver', etc when the products themselves do not change much among the line of products; making it harder to find and purchase good quality items. Thank you again prof. always love the videos.
@twincast20058 жыл бұрын
If they fixed the hinges, I'd be positivly salivating over the silver S01s for my YGO Blue-Eyes deck to be - both pretty and secure. For MTG, however, I ended up deciding on style over substance when it came to my mono green deck box, and I don't regret it at all. Unlike the professor, I adore the design of Ultra-Pro's faux leather line, and while it does pop open with a single hard shake, minor rumblings pose no problem at all, which suffices for my rather limited personal needs.

I have the small one for 2 commander decks and I really haven't run into any problems. I agree on the points that the professor made, you can feel that the plastic is not the best there is, but if you are careful, and close the box after getting your deck out, you shouldn't have any problems with it. In case that someone is on the fence of buying one :)

I personally own an L01 and it didn't take long for the glue that holds the divider in place to stop keeping hold of the divider. Fortunately the divider falling out wasn't much of an issue for me, as I personally would've preferred there to be no divider/a removable divider rather than one that was glued down, but it does show a certain lack of quality control

I can see a few motivated people drilling out the rivets to the hinges and replacing the rivets with better made hinges. For the smaller cases, regular small size cabinet hinges would work but for the U1 I would look around McMaster-Carr for those heavy duty hinges that would hold in place where you place the lid but will still allow the case lid to open completely.

I use a tool suitcase from harbor freight to carry my decks and binders. Have been for years. For $25-30 you get more space, the dividers, robust handle, locking latches, hooks for a carry strap, and better hinges than the best ones these offer. You only lose the synthetic leather liner, replaced with foam. For your consideration.
@douglochery86418 жыл бұрын
+balisticjoe I do pretty much the same thing but here in the UK we pay a lot more for that honour from our usual DIY hardware suppliers. In the UK those same tool boxes can retail for GBP24.99 - 39.99 (USD 35.96 - 57.54). The flexibility and protection is great, although those insert walls are universally awful (card or 3-plyboard surrounded by cheap foam depending on how much you pay).  Depth can be an issue (as not designed around deckbox dimensions) but some foam sorts that out. Usually better hinges on the more expensive models.

A possible superior alternative to the D2 would be the discontinued Rook cases. Came in a few different sizes and the best one was like the Legion lunch box only better built with a metal divider to easily store toploaders as well as being built like a tank. I believe Rook also made steel toploaders which looked pretty shnazzy but loading/unloading sleeved decks wasn't the best.

So, for the later series of deck boxes, they need to make the card compartment signifigantly narrower than the interior of the lid so the inside of the lid isn't flush with inside of the card compartment. Other than that, seems a well constructed deckbox.

Hey Professor, It seems that one can't patent a deck box design as BCW have changed their Deck Locker to be identical to the Ultimate Guard Flip'N'Tray. It now has trays for both dice and deck as well as a faux suede interior lining. The outer shell is still the same faux leather and only comes in 80 sleeved (single? doesn't specify) card sizes. Available in the 5 colors of magic and brown which I suppose is meant to resemble natural leather. Their web site lists them a new higher price of $21.45. I wonder If the quality has improved? I bought the 100+ Ultimate Guard Flip'N'Tray off your recommendation and it's everything you said it was plus more. The "more" being that you can't get the physical feeling of quality through the video, not to mention that awesome Xenoskin. I love your channel and all the wonderful content. I'm looking forward to more great reviews, information and fun in the future. Speaking of which, what happen to the podcasts between you and Wedge from TheManaSource? Also, will you be doing an Office Hours for the exceptional beauty that is Liliana? Happy Magic Professor :-)

they shoul make it double hinged. attach a hinge to a bar that attaches to the top of the lid so it can flip 540 degrees and make some sort of sleeve for it to slide into place to protect the cards. or just make it so the sides that are sliding against the cards are part of the bottom piece and no the lid. they cant brush against the side if the never move.

+Jordan Garner I was looking at the ammo cases they have. There's some pretty neat stuff there at reasonable prices that might be a decent option. I just want something that will hold these Satin Towers, keep them from rubbing together, and have them nice and neat in the case without a bunch of wasted space around them.
The U1 looks like a box i purchased from Harbor Freight Tools. But my boxes only cost me $30. They have taken extreme beating in the trunk of my car and both have the dividers and locks. Haven't noticed any hinge issues. One of mine came with foam inserts, so it is able to be customized to my liking. you should try to do a video on generic cases that will work as a budget case.

I believe I bought one of the prototypes of these from Etsy about a year ago. They're certainly nifty, but the hinges and the tendency of the lids to catch on the corners were a huge turn-off. I ignored the problem at first because the box certainly looked good, but eventually I grew tired of being too careful with it. Such a shame because I thought it was just a prototype issue that they'd fixed since.

@douglochery86418 жыл бұрын
+Nejiron I'm no professor but as a filthy casual myself I can tell you what my experience has been if that helps? Out of the Duel Decks we have (as we use these exactly like you suggest) I always like the Kiora vs Elspeth deck - it seems reasonably balanced and both decks work well as-is with no modification. Although, frankly, having the Anthology provides us hours of pick-up-and-play fun and was the basis of us teaching our group about deck roles and construction as it served as a great how-to on what to do, and in some cases, what not to do :) Unless you're paying practically nothing for it try to avoid Speed vs Cunning. WORST. DUEL-DECK. EVER.
@douglochery86418 жыл бұрын
+Nejiron I'll add to my comments that Elves vs goblins showcases some of the tribal strategies quite well, too, and gives a solid base to start tweaking from. You'll not make a Tier2 deck from these humble beginnings but for kitchen table magic you could do worse.
