OB, honest question; Just got an offer to buy a real Alpha Lotus, graded a 9 by Beckett for about $19,000 in my local Euro monies. I am not in doubt of authenticity, the seller is solid enough, but more about whether it is a good price point for long term investment or not? I kinda wanna throw the investment money after MtG top end cards and just bank vault them for 5 yrs. But also in serious doubt of how to ever get rid of it again. How does one sell like a card worth $20k on ebay without the buyer just scamming one or claiming its false and stuff?

@barath4545 I feel like you're about 5-7 years too late. That's 15 000 euros on a card. I know its a collectible and i myself have some alpha stuff but damn, thats alot of money. I mean if you're financially stable then sure. Look up on Magiccardmarket. Seems like you still got a good deal i guess, a 8,5 from becket is going for 22999,99 €. = 36 000 dollars. Then again, later on its gonna be really difficult to cash in that card. If you want a lotus, i would suggest to get an UL one. But its your money.

@barath4545 and with such transactions, people usually meet up in person to do the deal. I mean atleast in Europe, its not the biggest continent to fly through. And check up all available tests you can do to see if its authentic or not.

When you go to unload a card of that magnitude, you need to go thru a third party such as Vintage Magic or PWCC where they will take the responsibility of the transaction. Meetings in person are usually done and they can be dangerous. Selling on ebay is really to much risk. Seems to be an ok deal one sold for 26,000 dollars US which is about 21,000 Euros.

Hey Open Boosters, I always wanted a Animate Dead shirt too. I found bootleg ones that are printed with a digital printer. They look ok. Not as good as a legit silk screened one would. One day I will find one or make a high quality one. Ans when I do I will make sure to send ya one!

I give you credit for your honesty. If I were in that situation I would probably sell it and take the family on a mini vacation or something. Given the fact that you pretty much have everything that could possibly be in there in at least one version or more already it's not like it would be a huge loss if you turned out to be wrong and there is a mox or something like that in there.

Thanks for the great video on Easter OB! Happy Easter back at you buddy. I was so nervous that this was another commons starter box, I'm SO glad it's not! People used to love The Hive so much. It took players a while to figure out it was not so great, but I still have a special place in my heart for it. It's also so funny how bad WoTC was at placing cards in those packs. The pack at Rudy's shop was so bad, but for the price you bought it for... HUGE win. You seem sad to see lands when they pop up... but have you noticed how much Alpha/Beta lands are going up now? Each basic land is actually a score!

So I have an idea which might not be the most optimal way to do things but what about doing a video where you send every single card you get from a starter deck to get graded. It's a blast seeing your graded returns videos but it'd be a unique experience to just see how one entire starter does. Kinda scratches that itch because I've never seen it on yt before.

How do u determine what to send off for grading? Do u send off everything because they’re pack fresh and should get pretty good grades even with centering issues? I’ve been so wrong at predicting what BGS grades will be (in both directions... too generous and too conservative) that these days I just send in anything I’m even partially interested in grading :-). I opened a Mox Opal masterpiece, nicked the top edge in like 3 spots which are now sparkly as I sleeved it, and it still got a 9.5 because the surface and centering were both 10 to help the 9 edge.

Mostly I look at the edges and centering. If the centering is bad then you can't get a 10. However if the edges and centering are great then you might get there but you at least get a 9.5. that's what I look for at least!

openboosters nice. Centering is so brutal haha. There’s an alpha Savannah ABUGames has for sale with all 9/9.5 subgrades except 8.5 centering. Rough because I’m sure it was pack fresh when graded and got dinged for something we have no control over :-/

I have heard the rumor that there were starters with no rares and that they did that to try to hide where the rares were. However that is what I heard in 1993. Never seen one before these showing up. Thank goodness this wasn't one of those!! Pfew! Happy Easter!
