It's just a little too neon and goofy. Stoked for it, but I wish it was 30% less Stranger Things and 30% more The Thing instead. All of the core characters look like they are at Disney Land rather than in a horror movie.

It’s the fact that they aren’t dirty that does it for me. They don’t look like they’ve “survived” in their setting for more than half a day. Sure there is exceptions to this, but the coherency shown in stuff like oh innistrad and lorwyn is what makes those some of my favourite sets.

I both like the art in this set including the frames, and I understand the desire for a more gritty spooky art with lovecraft style to it. Chainsaw for example reminds me of 80s comic book art, fluorescent and such. I'm an old school magic player looking to get back into the game and the cards looking waaaaay different than they used to doesn't bother me at all. Also those textured full card art foils look incredible imho.

I don't see any issue at all with a TV being used for a collector's box and it having any serious bearing on any of the thematic underpinnings happening within the set itself. And I've yet to hear anybody talk about modern horror equivalents within this set. They keep talking about innistrad which deals specifically and intentionally in Hammer Studio. Gothic horror whereas what this set projects is slasher era type horror things along the lines of films like hellraiser the cube cabin in the woods slither insidious the babadook 14 ghosts And things that are more closely aligned with high levels of Gore unsettling supernatural, monsters, body horror and light buddy theming. By and large this the set I am most excited for and I understand there's no accounting for taste and not everything is going to make everybody happy. But I really don't get any of the outrage about this set. It looks freaking awesome

As someone who was born in the mid Seventies, I happily admit that love the vibe and many of the artworks. Though I hope they've managed to find a balance between the goofiness of things like Ghost Busters or Gremlins and way more visceral things like The Thing, The Chainsaw Massacre or Alien for example. And you have to add all the Slashers, S. King's shadow and so on and so forth. Packed. But damn, that demon has such a beautiful casting cost! PS: Seems like Zoja finally has nowhere to run. Who want some wolf pelt for the next winter?

If they ever did a "The Thing" universes beyond type thing like they did with Transformers or Jurassic Park, I would lose my mind. It's probably my favorite horror movie, or at bare minimum, in my top 5. I kind of doubt they will cause it's not quite as ubiquitous or universally loved as something like Jurassic Park, but man. I'd need to collect every single card.

As a horror lover, I'm stoked for this set. I think where WOTC goes wrong with sets... If you're gonna theme, then theme. It's why Bloomburrow, Fallout, Warhammer, etc work and why Thunder Junction flopped. Where I think they may have missed the mark here is including the anime guns and tech flavor that feels out of place. They should have stuck to theme and used classic improvised weapons like butcher knife on a broom handle, a machete, chainsaw, medieval weaponry found in a mansion, etc. I won't love the anime guns but I'll forgive it lol
