The real problem with running this is that to play it on curve, you're throwing both pieces out so late without any sort of protection and hoping they don't have an answer. By turn 4 or 5, that gets very unlikely. If there was a way to more effectively cheat out the combo or at least have some kind of protection for it when played slower it might be more viable. As it is, it just seems like a funny "oops, I won" secondary option in a deck that otherwise functions fine without it.

I thought the same here, and I think the safe (with a giant grain of salt) solution is moving this to a green/artifact ramp deck where by turn 2 you're already producing the 5 mana required for this to work. You would basically be running the deck on prayers, but still.

I think you're right! Having open mana to protect Bloodletter would be most gangstar. Perhaps pioneer vampires would be a better home for the deck since sorin can drop Bloodletter for free! Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord {2}{B} Legendary Planeswalker - Sorin +1: Target creature you control gains deathtouch and lifelink until end of turn. If it’s a Vampire, put a +1/+1 counter on it. +1: You may sacrifice a Vampire. When you do, Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord deals 3 damage to any target and you gain 3 life. −3: You may put a Vampire creature card from your hand onto the battlefield. Loyalty: 4

Dimir can also wombo-combo Bloodletter with Mindlink Mech and protects the combo a bit better. The big problem with this is that none of the combo cards are that good on their own so you're exchanging the card quality of a usual midrange deck for having a combo kill to cheese wins with. That did bail you out in one game against Domain, but seemed not great in the Toxic matchup (which I'd expect to be very good for midrange decks usually) and the midrange mirror.

I've been testing out Beseech in different decks since WoE released; and I've found that running a full playset usually isn't worth it. You could probably trim 1 copy of Beseech and Rush to add a little card draw/selection.

I wonder if you can go dimir and try to slot in some mindlink mechs. They seem to work well with the Bats, Preachers and Bloodletters ^^

Honestly the MB Devotion seems like the way to go for Pioneer (if not BR Vampires--I'm just not sure that deck needs the combo or what you'd cut). A dedicated sac deck might...or just throwing it into a BR Vampires build, but curving out at 5 without ramp is rough. Sorcery speed and the discard mode also being 2 is really what kills this card for me. It limits the use to control, ramp, or other grindy decks that need a closer and already would run Bloodletter over better but less synergistic 4 drops.

Your last point is pretty spot on! There are so many 4-drops that it's difficult to justify Bloodletter over them. The only vampire list in Pioneer before the MKM pro tour happened to have bloodletters in the deck, so perhaps there's hope! If not, black devotion could be good like you said!

Daddy! If you're gonna be playing this in pioneer, might I suggest a monoblack control shell with warlock class instead of the bloodletter! Warlock class is, of course, much more mana to level, but is actually useful in a control deck since it replaces itself for a small mana investment, and is much harder to interact with. I'd suggest control because the combo is so mana hungry that you'd need a deck that's able to slow down games for it to be a viable wincon, and also cos both halves of the combo serve a dual purpose as pretty reasonable value cards for a control deck even when seperated, so you'd never be stuck with one half of the combo in hand and nothing to do. Edit: maybe monoblack devotion with Nykthos! Warlock Class seems really solid there, since it digs while leaving behind a black pip for devotion purposes! Also Bloodletter+Gary (Merchant of Asphodel) is a match made in heaven... A deck that runs all four sounds ballin'. As for the rest of the deck, Leyline of the Void is one of the more maindeckable Leylines, for Nykthos purposes... Is it too greedy to use trial of ambition and tithing blade for removal to up devotion? And that new black creature they spoiled (Harvester of Misery) as a weenie sweeper? I'm probably overthinking the devotion part and it'd be better to just use instants/sorceries, but it's worth considering. If you wanna go *deep* you could even chuck in Doom Foretold for Maximum Bullshit™ as a pay-off for all the shitty removal permanents Edit 2.0: Oh God I just remembered that Turgid, God of Fright exists, she'd go *hard* in a monoblack devotion deck with tithing blade, trial of ambition and rush of dread... Even her lantern is spicy with bloodletter

For the WG Toxic matchups, the poison counters weren't being added correctly (in both game 1 & 2 there were errors)

So in game 1, part of skrelv's ability is that it adds toxic +1 to the creature (effectively making the annex sentry +2 toxic) and in game 2, a proliferate counter is missed from Bloated Contaminator @@MagicAids

Surprised you didn’t use Voldaren Epicure or especially Insatiable Avarice in this deck to deal 6 damage to the opponent with Bloodletter or draw 3 yourself.

Extra turns does seem pretty nice! Sage of Hours {1}{U} Creature - Human Wizard Heroic - Whenever you cast a spell that targets Sage of Hours, put a +1/+1 counter on it. Remove all +1/+1 counters from Sage of Hours: For each five counters removed this way, take an extra turn after this one. 1/1

With all that mana, perhaps so! At the very least, Rush of Dread seems pretty decent in the deck. I'm not sure if bloodletter could survive a turn in modern, though!
