@@benkentucky4380 I have played thief rogue at every point of HS. It feels god awful and straight up kills you, when you draw a dud. 4 mana do nothing, into a dead draw, you're just gone. Some of the cards you can't even play, because you don't meet the condition, and it's stuck in your hand. Only time I used it reliably was to counter fatigue vs control, with 1 copy in the deck.

I remember Fel Orc Soulfiend being used in zoolock back in the day. Paired with other threats like flame imps and the 1/5 Mayor guy that gained attack when you summon stuff, turns out opponents couldn't always afford to give Fel Orc Soulfiend a response, so you could easily get 6 or more damage in, and if it was about to die Warlock had cards that would kill it for more value/tempo, or just use Power Overwhelming and kamikazi it against a big taunt (edit: or the opponent's face)

Rarran is talking about the value of Dwarf Planet, but it's really not very good value at all. Played on an empty board, you're spending 10 mana on 14 mana worth of minions - a discount, yes, but not much of one. One could argue that it's card advantage, but it's not useful advantage, and one board wipe sets you back to square one

In MTG terms I wouldn't think of Final Frontier as a 7 drop that does nothing. Add in the creature/minion you get and it's an 8 drop that does whatever that 10 drop does.

Commenting before even watching because im excited to see cards rated that ARENT legendaries. Obviously legendaries are the most crazy things to look at. But there is something cool about just reviewing slightly more standard cards than things that just change the rules of the game when played sometimes.

To explain Remote-Controlled Golem: This was actually based on a classic era WoW quest. You would be trying to ease drop on a few people vital to the defias brotherhood plotline, and the gnome who was operating the npc part of the quest used the golem so the priest you were baiting couldn't read it's mind. He even disguised it as a woman, and it went quite well. The quest would have been pretty forgettable except 1: The quest was REALLY HARD for it's intended level as you needed to fight two overpowered (thankfully not elite) npcs, and 2: you got likely your first ring, and the ring was really good. So you kinda had to do it.

I think CGB misunderstood Academic Espionage as copying the cards in your opponent’s deck. That would actually make it pretty good. Sadly, it just shuffles random class cards that match your opponent’s class. That said, I have a distinct memory of Academic Espionage seeing play to refill a deck that was just emptied by Myra’s Unstable Element with above-average cards that could be copied by Tess.

I'm sure that CGB would beat Rarran in a "Did you get the reference?" in Hearthstone cards. Fun fact: the voice line for playing Frizz Kindleroost (released in 2019) is "Turn the incubators to eleven!", another very direct reference/homage to Spinal Tap.

Ma'kgora was originally always a fight to the death, but there was a brief time where you were allowed to not fight to the death (while Thrall was Warchief). Then it went back to fighting to the death.

Fel orc soulfiend was almost entirely unplayed for one reason. You could run a 3/4 instead. Play 3/4, hit 3/3, it lives. Play 3/7, goes to 5 on your turn, hit 3/3, goes to 2, is effectively dead. Cgb nailed it that it did see fringe play in priest decks, though. Wasn't good... but it was done.

Dirty rat was meta in Taunt warrior, it was meta in Control match ups because some control decks relied on spells to win the game or things like you guys even mentioned: DR.BOOM. Paladin mostly ran it because they can change the stats on something so even if you pull a 6/6 dr boom like turn 6, you can turn it into a 3/3 and smack with with a sword. Dirty rat is a main stay in counter control decks with just FAT decks or equally control vs control match ups. Loads of cards back in the day had incredible battle cries that were win cons of their own. Pull a Jabbering boyo and the entire enemy deck just died if it does. Great card in the past.

Frozen Mammoth didn't see a lot of play, but it was honestly very good in my enrage fire warrior deck. It would get buffed by your other cards, and the opponent would almost always let it live, hoping you didn't have a fire spell. And if they did kill it, they probably spent 2 or more cards doing it because it was so big. it wasn't a popular deck, but I had a ton of success with it, and Frozen Mammoth was really the dark horse of the deck.

The specifics of “Mak’gora” is a little bit even more specific. Usually it’s invoked to challenge a leader you think isn’t doing something correctly. So like if you’re part of the Warsong clan and you think your leader is running your people into the ground, you could challenge him to Mak’gora. It’s extremely rarely done because the orcish leaders generally are the strongest of their clan. It has also been something adopted by the Horde and used in other scenarios. When Garrosh became the warchief, Cairne challenged Garrosh to Mak’gora even though Cairne is a Tauren. Saurfang challenged Sylvanas to Mak’gora later on to use his death (he wanted to die in battle as that is what gives an orc warrior’s life honor) as a rallying cry for the rest of the horde to fight against her.
