Marjorie's boyfriend put out a similar "warning" video. In it he says that the cicadas that are emerging this summer are a plague of locusts. These are two very different species of insects. The cicadas will emerge from the many years spent underground in their juvenile form. They will pupate just like butterflies and conceive the next generation in just a few days. This last stage of their is so short that they do not even develop mouth parts to eat with. They die in just a few days. He says they will attack people. They couldn't even if they wanted to, nor can they destroy crops or anything for that matter. They make for a few noisy summer nights, but that's it. Please feel free to also ignore them as a sign of the apocalypse 😂

Anyone who fears the end times has some thinking to do, if you ask me. I don't spend time on that prospect, but what I do spend time on? Every person I meet or even see, I try to love. Something happened to me this morning, that made me realize just how far down we gone as a country. I went in at 10:00 for a hair appointment. Another lady came in for her appointment at the same time. So my hairdresser checked the calendar, and for some reason, she had been deleted. They were talking and she was trying to reschedule, but she came from out of town and wasn’t going to be able to come in later in the week. My appointment was going to be at least 2 hours, so I asked my hairdresser if she had time to do her first, then me. She said she did, so I told her to do the other lady first and I would do some shopping and be back in an hour. The other lady was so flabbergasted that I would do that, that she left a $50 bill for me to put towards my service. She said she hadn’t seen a stranger do that sort of kindness in so long, she wanted me to know how much it meant. I thought, wow - that says a lot about how selfish we’ve become. To me it just seemed like the logical thing to do, but to her it meant the world. Anyway, your talk reminded me of that so thought I’d share. We never know how just the least amount of kindness can impact someone else. Good talk, Reverend Ed!

They seek more to control others when they say "repent". They don't want to do the "right thing" that Jesus advocated (feed the hungry, heal the sick, welcome the stranger, etc.) but they'd rather try to control others (when it comes to things like gender affirmation, abortion, contraception, etc.) They may choose those things they want to control others regarding, but they don't want others to have them. As Jesus says, "hypocrites." All those predictions remind me of Hal Lindsey's Late Great Planet Earth. When that came out, it scared me to the point where I could barely function. Fortunately, I was able to speak with a Sunday School teacher I had when I was much younger. (Mom was going to a different church at that time and didn't want me to go back to the previous one. Papa, fortunately since I didn't drive, gave me a ride so that I could speak with her.) She talked about how many of the "signs and portents" were things that they were seeing back in Jesus' time and about Jewish apocryphal literature, and also brought up the points you did (about "no ones the day or the time except the Father.") We all need people like the Sunday School teacher and like you to point out the way that people try to scare us. Scared people are easier to control in ways that those who like to control people favor. But we don't need to be fearful!

It was a glorious eclipse; my brother and I traveled to see it in a zoo in Indianapolis: I saw no omen. I heard birds chirping wildly and lots of sirens that turned out to be gibbons. Lions that had been sleeping when I had first seen them roared provocatively after the eclipse. That was the only omen whose effect I noticed. There's plenty about which we Americans have cause to repent. We need no eclipse to tell us that. Somehow I see global warming far more dangerous an omen than any other signs of apocalypse.

Hello Reverend Ed I thank you for keeping me calm in the political mess we have been thrown into. I live in Oklahoma, and as you know, Ryan Walter's has demanded that all teachers use the Bible in their classrooms 5th and up in teaching their lessons. Exactly what Margoree has done with her complete misinterpretation of the verse she cited is exactly what I fear for our kids. Wednesday is the first day of school. It terrifies me to think that my grandsons and others may get confused about the meaning of the verse by the misinterpretation from the teacher. I respect all religions. I feel as long as they are praying that God can hear them. I can't imagine if an atheist itrying to use the bible to teach a lesson. How would they interpret the meaning of that verse? An atheist and a scientist walk into a school to teach our kids the bible. It sounds like a really bad joke, but it's not. Unfortunately, it's my reality. Oh my! I ask if you would help me pray for the teachers and the kids . I pray that it won't confuse or make the kids rebel against the search for God and Jesus by forcing them in the manner that has demanded. I wish churches in the U.S. hadn’t lost the plot. I haven’t stepped foot in a church since the late 1980’s because they only want to make money and preach politics, regressive politics at that. It’s just wrong and inauthentic and I won’t be a part of it.

I already did comment this on a community post, but you should really talk about Ruby Franke and Jodi Hildebrandt, they are fundamentalist Christians who engaged in really horrific abuse towards children (including the "family vlog" KZbin Channel "8 Passengers" and a very cultish way of raising kids). Thankfully they are in prison and are no longer abusing them. Rachel Oates made some videos about the situation.

How do you know so well how to interpret scripture? I read it and still have no idea what it really means. Probably because i was raised in fundamentalist churches and taught to take the words literally and not to extrapolate interpretations. I have switched frim KJV (which means about as much as Greek to my brain) to NRSV and NIV which i can better understand. And I have ordered my first Study Bible (SBL - the former Harper Collins) to try and expand my understanding of the texts. Thanks for your insight to those of us who are less assured about the true spirit of Biblical passages. ❤🙏🏼

Eschatological predictions are a mainstay in US religious history. It's known the world over, but here in the States, we are particularly fond of it. One of my grievances about _Far Cry 5_ (the Ubisoft _Far Cry_ series borrows from IRL places where civil unrest is likely) is that the world actually ends -- by nuclear holocaust, no less -- when traditionally, the world goes on just as it did in the Great Disappointment of 1844. Sometimes the apocalypse is rescheduled a time or two but eventually enough of the following gets tired of the nonsense and the movement implodes, sometimes messily. Ronald Reagan was a Second Adventist, and was pretty sure he was going to play his part in launching a retaliatory strike against the Soviet Union. (The assumption was the USSR was just evil, or was going to collapse in on itself or something, despite the whole _Peaceful Coexistence_ thing, or Мирное сосуществование, coming from them. Reagan wanted to use his Peacekeeper ICBM). Greg Stillson, from _The Dead Zone_ by Stephen King was inspired by Ronald Reagan, but willing to first-strike, where Reagan was not willing to take that extra step. No-one -- well, rather very, very few folk -- actually want a nuclear war. But it's not actually surprising that people hope for doomsday. There's little sense in caring for the sick, enriching the impoverished and feeding the hungry if God intends to power-wash the world in a week. Conservatism makes more sense (though still a selfish sense) when you know the Big Reset is right around the corner. But the thing is, life goes on. And on and on. And we have a list of centuries of EOTWAWKI predictions (now maintained by Wikipedia) that have failed, and yet new ones that haven't quite failed yet, but we're pretty sure they'll drift into the past as have all the others. Curiously, no one looks at the climate crisis and our inability to curb anthropogenic pollution on a global scale as the Big Biblical Flush, even though it does present a global catastrophic risk, either of driving the human species to extinction within a few centuries, or of driving us to a primitive population that won't be able to progress and expand infrastructure to reach for the stars. I think we want to imagine the Apocalypse like _Titanic,_ a two hour process rather than decades of lingering and suffering. At any rate, seeing the last of us perish from failing crops and famine may drive home that our gods die with us. They may die anyway. We expect population corrections in our lifetime including major infrastructure collapse, and even if we survive, we can't be sure what culture is going to survive with us, and what will perish as libraries and media give way to the elements. Einstein, Beethoven, Michelangelo, Plato... all are in jeopardy. Jesus' message may be different then than it is now, but then it's different now than it was centuries ago. Maybe it's inevitable.

Just a quick thought about the end times. I think it was in one of Paul's letters to that Thessalonians where he is writing to a group of Christians who have heard that the end what's near and he said get up off of the Hill that you're camped out on and go back to work go back to spreading the good news Jesus Christ.
