Rev Ed, I've said it before and will say it again, some people wake up looking for a reason to be angry. They never stop and ask, "Why exactly am I angry about this?" I pray that your message resonates with them and they choose peace and to love others instead.

Noticing and recognizing that someone’s angry isn’t judging them. And no, I am not judging you. Judging in the negative includes condemnation as in “You’re a sinner and you’re going to hell.” I don’t think that is what the poster meant, but felt only sorrow and pity.

Because of COVID and Christian Nationalism I have dropped out of church attendance. I do have a safe church to go to, but I haven't returned. I pray daily almost constantly for our country. I am lucky I grew up in a progressive church before I knew what that was and they put the Bible in my heart. Listening to you is melting away my hurt and sadness about how so many churches are lost in the quagmire. By finding those are speaking up, it's giving me hope that there may be lots more of US Christians who really believe in God and ignore the BS.

Oblig transgender atheist here: I didnt mean to find this video, but im glad i did, i grew up in the church, from the age of 7 i knew i was trans, i *knew* that the churches pastor was talking about me when he would say that being LGBT meant i was hellbound, i hated myself so much because of that i also decried and faught agaisnt god, my internal conflict lead me to more than one unaliving attempt, i know i have religious truama that will never allow me to set foot in another church again, but seeing this video, knowing there are still people who practice the true teachings of jesus, who wont condemn me for simply existing gives me hope. On TransGender Day of Visibilty, which is a day to showcase transpeople being happy, being successful, being visible, many of us, myself included, hid away and mourned our lost. What is supposed to be a day of joy, was brought to pain by alt right neo facist christian nationalists who coopted easter for political posturing.. I have not been a practicing christian for almost a decade, i still have my bible, and i still know my favorite verses. They speak like thunder in the valley. Ephesians 5:11-15 "To those who preach with hate in your hearts and venom on your tongues, the blood of the innocent is upon your hands, and no wonder, for even his followers speak his word as if it where my own, they shall lead my flock astray to the dens of wolves to be devoured."

@@SnepBlepVR I'm glad you found this video, too! You write beautifully, I loved reading your words. I'm sorry for the way you have been treated and talked about by people who should be examples of love and acceptance, but instead use the Bible as a weapon and a reason to hate others. I grew up in Texas, most of my family are evangelical. I gave up on church decades ago because of the blatant racism and homophobia I saw in church, and from those who tell everyone all the time that they are christian. Reverend Ed has helped me stop hating the Bible. Jesus was a person who changed the world and taught love, and how to honor God by treating your fellow humans as if they were kin. Also, I found a church on KZbin that I watch every Sunday. It's UMC, United Methodist, but they are the ones who split from the traditional Methodist church. Traditional Methodist still calls LGBTQ people "wicked" and sinful (Um, I thought we are all sinful?). This church has turned away from that hateful noise. Everyone is welcome, the pastor is a woman who used to be a professional actress and standup comic. She's wonderful. I love her sense of humor, but more than that I've learned more about the true Jesus from her. It seems that at least half the church is LGBTQ+. I've been rejected by my own family for leaving church and for not voting repub. Some have long suspected that I'm gay because I've been single and not looking for most of my life. I should have never married, it was disastrous. I'm not gay, I have no sexual attraction to men or women, I've looked androgynous most of my life. I finally found out that asexuality is real, and it's what I have been all my life! I was angry for awhile because I wish I'd known sooner, that the way I am is normal and there's others like me. I'm hurting because I spent so much of my life trying to be what others wanted me to be. The only people I've told so far, is my psychiatrist and the pastor of that Methodist church. They are only about 35 miles from where I live, but I don't have a good car right now. Otherwise, I would be attending that church and meeting new friends. Hopefully soon.

But I'm just an evil hell-bound Atheist who has never believed, so I can never be or do good in their eyes. They view me as less-than-human, and some have expressed that they want me dead. I confess to some rage on Sunday… I’m going to try to make this short and comprehensible. I need to vent and I feel this is a community that will get it. I am Roman Catholic and I sing in my parish choir. While I am frustrated about a lot of things within the greater church, and hierarchy, I have found community and meaning in my parish and especially in my choir community. But having a m bit of trouble with the parish part after two homilies over the weekend. Good Friday service the oldest priest in residence at our parish finished his homily with a super tone-deaf story about white savior type buying an enslaved person and freeing her. it was to me, incredibly inappropriate and a terrible metaphor in several ways, including equating a white slave owner with God, and a black, enslaved person with sinful humanity, who needed to be grateful to God-even a master who bought her. This priest is older I know him and I understand that he meant well. I debated about whether or not to speak to him personally, and I thought oh so many people are going to talk to him and I don’t want to just pile on and it’s Easter. I’ll wait until after Easter and check and see if someone else spoke to him. Fast forward to Easter Sunday morning service this morning. The pastor couple years older than me (in his late 50s) starts off with a reasonable sounding homily. And then he says, if you were here Friday night you heard a story the father John told…. I dropped my head, shaded my forehead, and I in almost face palmed. I was sitting in the front row. I cringed as he retold the story, attempting to make it better but of course, in many ways, just making it worse-I think this community gets what I mean. I finally couldn’t take it anymore. I got up, pretending I had to cough, went outside and shouted to the sky what the ‘F’ several times, eventually went back and finished the service still kind of shaking with rage. after church, I spoke briefly to some of my fellow choir members who are older than I am, and they either had no clue or didn’t think it was that big a deal. sigh. I’ve been told I’m kind of “the emperor has no clothes” kind of person and I decided that this was one of those times I needed to be that person. Outside, I cornered first a younger deacon, then the youngest priest, and finally the pastor. corners. To the first two I said something like, “hey, did father John and father Mark run their homily by you?” Each said no. I proceeded to explain to each of them exactly why the homilys were horrifying to anyone descended from enslaved people-or anyone under the age of 30…and then cornered the younger priest, I gi ally spoke directly to the pastor who had certainly overheard me with the other two. Fortunately they all seemed very subdued, and seemed to hear what I was saying . Still, the fact that it had to be said, and no one else said it is still vibrating through me. Thanks for “listening.”

Absolutely, Rev. Since I used to be like that (a long time ago in reality, but guilt and shame makes it seem recent), I’d like to add that also, like you said, the “leaders” have to keep the sheeple stressed, enraged, and hateful to keep them under control, all that negative junk allows the followers to feel some sort of control and superiority. Think of the mean girls/kids at school who would gossip and look smug and all that. Same thing. A few weeks ago I watched a video where the vid producers were interviewing various right wing people, and the one that sticks is the preacher who kept saying, “As a Christian, I feel persecuted,” about EVERYTHING, even though there was ZERO harm done directly to him. How did he feel about strip clubs in his city? “As a Christian, I feel persecuted!” Abortion? “As a Christian, I feel persecuted!” Drag Queens? “As a Christian, I feel persecuted!” Liquor stores? “As a Christian, I feel persecuted!” Women voting? “As a Christian, I feel persecuted!” You get the idea. (the Train of Thought derailed yet again. Middle age, ugh) Anyhoo I wish WAY more clergy and people in general thought like you, you righteous dude🖖🏽🙆🏻‍♀️

Here in Michigan, we have a gem of a "Christian" in U S Congressman from the 5Th district, Tim Walberg, who also happens to be a Baptist minister. Anyway, on Good Friday at a townhall meeting when asked about aid to Gaza, Representative Walberg stated, "it should be like Nagasaki and Hiroshima...get it over quickly. We shouldn't be spending one dime on humanitarian aid to Gaza. He went on to say other repulsive stuff about gays and nurses. Of course, now he is trying to walk all that back...I personally sort of like ministers that do not have to walk back their sermons.

This message was really good timing. My brother is a very self rightous christian. He acts as if he's so much more holy than others. And of course, I've been questioning my faith, so he just watches and waits to find a reason to crush me, and try to ban me from the family. I'm 10yrs older than him. He doesn't know anything about me, and he's never tried to. He used his kids to hurt me a couple years ago. He knew how close I was to his oldest, and when the middle child got older, she wanted to come spend time with me too. They always wanted to stay longer because we all loved arts and crafts. So when he found out I was questioning my faith, he said they don't want me around the kids anymore. They kids would ask me if they could come back over, and I'd say, you are always welcome at my house, but you have to ask your parents. And they'd say no. After a while, they stopped asking. It crushes my heart to think they may think it's me saying no. I actually have no idea what my brother said. This message comes at a perfect time. Christianity is nothing like I knew it as. It's a HUGE part of why I walked away. Is there a God? I have no idea. But lets just say I have NO evidence to believe it, and the people that claim there is are some of the most hateful and arrogant *&$%^#@*, and I want no part of what they stand for.😔😥😠

That's extremely hurtful. I'm sorry. That's common behavior for someone with Narcisstic Personality Disorder, but the religious element seems to add a layer of cruelty. Just because they profess (or use/abuse) that faith doesn't mean that they 'stand for it.' If you believe, then you get to decide for what you stand, and how Christianity should manifest. I wish you relief and peace.

As I sat in an Easter service on Sunday, I thought about the Transgender Day of Visibility and thought "What better day!." The day three women found the tomb empty and were told that Jesus had risen and fulfilled his promise ought to be a day we recognize everyone of God's creation. I also thought of Jesus's recognition of Mary's right to sit at his feet with the men when her sister Martha came to push her back to her properly gendered place helping to serve.

Who cares what's at the White House or Capital on a Holiday. Easter is actually two holidays rolled into one. We celebrate the conquest of life over death, and we also celebrate the beginning of spring and fertility, symbolized by the egg. So, the egg itself is a "religious" symbol of sorts, (celebrating the Goddess of life). I support how Biden handled it. It sounds like it was lovely.

Thank you so much for posting this video! So many members of the LGBTQ community - & especially the Trans community - feel very much alone & afraid right now. My "other" hometown of New Orleans has several Easter Parades that happen on Easter Sunday - one of them being the Gay Easter Parade that has been taking place annually for almost 25 years. The event is always fun, uplifting with positive messages of love & acceptance & is a favorite among locals & tourists alike. Although there are always a few asshats that make hateful comments on any social media post about the event, the event has faced a very large onslaught of hate this year (I suspect many of the "commenters" are from "bot " accounts). It breaks my heart for the wonderful folks of the LGBTQ community that put on this event to make people smile & enjoy life. They are incredibly kind, loving, creative people that should be celebrated, not persecuted. So, thank you for showing them that the hate being spewed forth is not part of real Christianity.

I am thanking The Old Master for a lot of things today and every day, but also for Him giving you and a few other lights in the darkness a voice during this time. The Easter Egg thing didn't surprise me. This is a common practice thats been around for decades. I used to run a large venue in a very Christian town, but a long-established as part of the venue's Christmas decorations was we didn't use overtly religious symbols. It never dampened or affected anyone's prayers or joy during religious-based Christmas events held there during the holy time if there was a star atop the Christmas tree in the hall instead of an angel. Easter and Christmas are living in our hearts, in our love for other people, because that's where He lives! Do not worry, and Happy upcoming Pentecost Sunday on May 19th this year 🕊️

This is why i love your channel Rev Trevors, you make sense and really are relatable. At least in the USA far to many churches and Christians have been radicalized. I may be an atheist but honestly Jesus's actual teachings have an appeal to them that even i can't deny. However this rampant hatred and bigotry that's overtaken so many and is used to excuse their behavior is horrific on a fundamental level. History must not be allowed to repeat, and sadly preachers and churches that spread hate have far to often lead to wars and crimes against those that they see as less then themselves. Great sermon, your one of the few pro-religion channels that i watch because I can respect your messages.
