Only somewhat related, but I love Atog's flavor text when they reprinted it in Mirrodin. "On Dominaria, a scavenger. On Mirrodin, a predator." Such a wonderful hit of flavor that, when taken in conjunction with it's ability to eat artifacts for power, really sets up what the at the time new plane is like and how it differs from the normal magic world.

It also refers to the fact how Mirrodin has no native creatures and was instead populated with creatures taken from all the planes

Brown Ouphe from Ice Age was also reprinted in Mirrodin with a referential flavor text. "In a strange twist of fate, one of the most annoying creatures in the multiverse was brought to the place where it could cause the most damage. "

Antiquities is such an absurd set, but I really do love it. For one, Strip Mine and Mishra's Workshop could *easily* make it into "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)", in fact, this set might have one of the highest amounts of cards with Vintage points out of any I can think of off the top of my head. The second reason is because I really do love the Brother's War stuff between Urza and Mishra, even if I'm not *that* much of a lore head. Antiquities is cool.

@@zakpodo You'd be surprised but can be a bit difficult sometimes to segue into "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)". Especially the Top 10 Worst lists which are my favourite, but are very hard to think of good ways to segue, but it's a fun creative exercise to try and make my dream come true.

Wouldn't another reason the Urza Lands weren't as popular initially was mana burn?

Not really, because they tap for 2 or 3 depending on which one, so with just the three lands you can produce 2, 3, 4, 5, or 7 mana depending on how you tap. That only leaves out 1 and 6 and you'd only burn for one for either of those as well. The problem was early Magic had very few ways to tutor up non-basic lands. So assembling all three lands was just too unreliable compared to other things you could be doing. Also, land destruction was more common in the early days, so they were very vulnerable to strip mine, stone rain, sinkhole, etc.

That's pretty cool. It's nice that most of those are not super expensive cards (Shop being the exception, of course). Atog is still pretty cool in Old School tho!

A little sad you didn't mention the 2 card combo of Triskelion and Mikaeus the Unhallowed. I doubt that combo sees actual competitive play, but I think it's cool that it exists, and I've definitely pulled it off in Commander.

A little known card from Antiquities that’s quite useful in Commander is Artifact Blast. R to either destroy an artifact or counter an artifact spell.

My favorite set of all time. Great atmosphere on the card art and lore. Have quite a few cards of this collection for use in vintage decks and old school. Keeps going up in price so I might try to complete the set soon. At least before the brothers war is released.

Oh yeah, I remember running 4 strip mines in every deck I made back in the day. Never played competitively, but around mid-late '96 people would only run one strip mine at most, purely out of courtesy.

Antiquities is a densely packed set. A huge percentage of those cards are relevant, and the set is one of the smallest in history. I enjoy the set videos, especially the ones on terrible sets. Of the godawful sets that I can think of off of the top of my head, Masques is the one that I don’t think that you have done. It would be cool to see a list on that too!

Don't know if it would have affected their place, but the Tron lands should have a few more points. They're Pauper legal! Tron has and continues to be a very relevant deck in the format.

Triskelion got most of its power by having the Oracle text change completely how it works, though. It enters the battlefield with three +1/+1 counters now, so it doesn't only gain them when cast.

Cool point, I never noticed that. It took a hit in that you can no longer spend the counters to ping in response to combat damage though.

I'm surprised that Triskelion didn't get the Phyrexian creature type added when they made that change. Maybe you're more familiar with the storyline and why that would be the case. But in the newer art, it definitely looks like a Phyrexian

No other card makes me hate myself more than Mishra's Factory. Back when I was a kid I had like 5 of them and I didn't even like the card or play with it. When I sold my collection I probably got $20 for all 5. Now they're $550 a pop. FML.
