Poor OG Ball Lightning, didn't make the dream list for it. I think it deserves reverse engineering a list for it. Creatures that sac themselves at the EOT? Red permanents with at least 6 power? Creatures with trample and more power than toughness?

Correction / Fun Fact: Mage of Zhalfir was NOT the first time Teferi had a card of his own. His first card was Disruptive Student, back in Urza's Saga.

Not technically. While the student depicted on the art is implied to be Teferi, the card isn't legendary and doesn't mention him by name. It could be reprinted with different art that _isn't_ of Teferi. But yeah, it _is_ the first time Teferi was depicted on a creature card.

Necropotence wasn't shunned due to the life cost, people already played with Greed. It was being locked out of your normal draw. Players didn't initially think of it as a one or two use spell, blowing it up with a Disk. They came around.

I agree. Mostly it wasn’t played and it was rightfully called the worst card in ice age initially because of the unrestricted black vise.

I expected to see Goblin Chainwhirler. I was a bit surprised Torbran and/or the M20 Cavaliers didn't make the list but I guess they weren't quite as dominant of cards as I thought they were. The pandemic might have also been a pretty big factor in restricting point accumulation for newer cards over the past couple years. I think it's also important to note that Cryptic Command can bounce ANY permanent, not just creatures.

As someone who went for the playset of Yawgmoth as soon as it was printed and built the deck right after its breakout event (after brewing with it for some time) I loved seeing it mentioned with Chord on this list! Another great video👍🏻 Sees Cryptic Command: “that’s my boy!”

The main takeway from this list is that Cryptic Command is an awesome card. But damn, this list is stacked. I'm a bit shocked Necropotence wasn't even higher but damn even Doomsday has more Vintage points than it. Despite this, my favourite card on the list *has* to be Garruk, Primal Hunter, since it works so amazingly well with my Multani Maro Sorcerer deck. On the top of Vintage points, maybe "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)" some time!

That was my thought as well, Necro at 4? But I’m guessing it’s a matter of it being _so_ powerful that it’s banned/restricted in a lot of formats, preventing it from gaining points. Same with Doomsday, it’d probably be a lot higher if it were more widely playable, but I think it beating out Necro is understandable from a power perspective. Cryptic doesn’t seem quite as busted as either of them, it’s just really, really solid.

Wow I’m really surprised how bolas’s citadel only has 15 points in vintage. It’s played in basically every single tinker deck.

Bolas' Citadel may put up points in Modern as well, as it's played as a Karn target in the Urborg Coffers deck that recently received a strong upgrade with the printing of Invoke Despair and Archon of Cruelty.

I got into magic a few expansions before Sensei divining top was released in the Kamigawa block. I remember playing it and liking it, but also remember hating it when the top three cards on my deck wouldn't help me get out of a spot. I can only imagine playing with it now with cards that had scry or something else to make it really shine. Nizz you ever do a video on low rarity cards that have seen the ban hammer?

happy to see one of my all time favs ( necropotence ) on the list. personally surprised ball lightning didnt make it on the list, i guess its not as popular as i thought. sad none of my other favs that fit this list will be good, uncle istvan, DEEP SPAWN. :(

I think you mean to say cards with activated abilities that don't share a color with its casting cost. Color Identity is determined by the casting cost and any mana symbols in the rules text, where the only exception is the Extort mechanic as the the White/Black hybrid mana is part of the reminder text.

I'm sure at least two people did, but not everyone. I looked at it and wondered what it was supposed to be good for because I failed to consider activating it more than once per turn.

Not true. Watch my video on Necropotence decks where I specifically cite an example of an early take on the card. It is true that it didn't take long for it to catch on, and weirdly others have an idea that it took a long time to catch on, and it definitely didn't! Just the earliest takes on it were wrong.

@@NizzahonMagic not to put too fine a point on it, I was there at the time and it was in fact completely obvious that drawing as many cards as you could pay life was actually good. The pro tour and tournaments were very rudimentary at the time and not nearly as optimized as it came to be just a few years later, or several years after that when you started playing.

Right. 2 Modern cards are better than Necro, which is restricted in Vintage and banned anywhere else. Convoke requires other creatures in play and Necro can be Dark Ritual'd or Black Lotus'd out on turn 1 but yeah, of course.
