I definitely prefer this format when it's specific to the basic pack-pull version of a card instead of alternate treatments, feels like it says more about the power level of the card instead of the scarcity of a special version of it.

Except it doesn't really. Because Reserved List and Alpha will still top most lists. This one is still an exception, not the new rule to price lists, because Mythic rarity didn't show up until after the RL ended. So most lists that can include the RL and Alpha will always have those at the top. The best way to do it would be to price it by the cheapest version of each card, or at least the most recent printing - while the RL would still top most lists (since they obviously aren't reprinted), it'd prevent an Alpha version of an everyday card like Lightning Bolt or Serra Angel from getting near the top.

I love these expensive lists, they're so great. Especially having no idea what the #1 could be. But I think we all know that the greatest thing of all would be "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)".

Sol Ring, Demonic Tutor, Wheel Of Fortune, Time Vault (with Voltaic Key), Necropotence, Mishras Workshop, Tolarian Academy, Library of Alexandria, Strip Mine, Yawgmoth’s Will. In no particular order, some of the most powerful cards in Vintage, aside from the Power 9.

Jeweled Lotus isn't entirely useless outside of Commander. There was a minute where Legacy players were trying to use Doubling Cube to convert it into useable mana. It never really went anywhere but the possibility exists.

My friend pulled a foil Great Henge. The price spiked almost doubled overnight and he never let go of it. Bought a golgari elf commander deck just because of that card.

It's interesting how card prices fluctuate between locations. Here in Brazil W6 would be number 4 right behind Sheoldred, and by a sizeable margin. Also the actual number 2 would be Ragavan and mox opal would be like number 6.

I'm so glad I pulled my Archfiend of Despair and Jeweled Lotus from packs. I actually used my Archfiend in a Legacy Reanimator deck I ran briefly for FNM. It was my first time actually winning lol. I've been wanting to find a new home for it since I've started EDH and I'm trying to figure out a good reanimator commander to run him in

I have a jeweled lotus in my urza lord high artificer deck. Its possibly the best home for it imo as if urza is already out and you draw it later, it just becomes a mox sapphire

American card prices seem inflated compared to UK ones! Even considering exchange rate. A Mox Opal will cost about £45-50 here even NM, just picked one up for Jhoira, but $90 is about £75 when exchanged!

These are also Card Kingdom prices which are inflated over ebay or TCGplayer prices. Nobody sane is spending $85 on Ragavan via Card Kingdom when you can save $10-25 getting one on eBay.

For Sheoldred it's a good AND a bad thing she's still in Standard: One, it's the reason her $$$ I'd so high I'd beacouse, with her low mana cost and SUPERB effects/ keyword, she's gonna be an auto-inclube in EVERY Black deck for the next 3 years. But also, becouse her high usage drive her price SO high, unless you crack one in a pack, getting one is going to cost you, well? 🤗 So, A LOT, of people are going to be waiting for her to rotate out of Standard, before they can afford one.

Although neither of them are eligible for this list, my best mythic pull that I doubt I'll ever be able to top was getting a Mana Crypt and a Demonic Tutor right next to each other in the same Mystery Booster pack. Technically, the Demonic Tutor is only an uncommon since it's the printing from Duel Decks: Divine vs. Demonic, but it's still the best pack I've ever opened.

It'd be really interesting getting one of these "Most expensive" videos each set release right before the set goes live. It will give a pretty good idea of the expected power level of each card prior to using the cards. It would also be a pretty easy and quick video to research.

That's not really true about power; usually rares and mythics always outclass the commons and uncommons before release. And nowadays, a lot of uncommons and commons end up being more expensive than a lot of rares and mythics just a few weeks later. Plus Niz already does a set review and a Top 10 Bombs, which while focusing on Limited, give a much better idea of actual gameplay power than a rarity-based economy.

The Ancient Dragon cycle was straight up bad design. The AFR cards using a d20 were basically coin-flip-plus, you always got your mana worth and sometimes a little more. Giving a result equal to the d20 roll in a game where small numbers matter produces an excessive amount of swing. These cards would still be widely played if they only gave you a d4 of their respective effects.

Ragavan exiles the top card of the opponent's library, not your own, so it's even better than drawing an additional card

Ragavan would be better if he exiled off your deck because your cards will generally be better for you than your opponent's. The only situation where his current effect is better is if you're playing him in Lantern Control
