I wish Shroud was still around; Seemed like interesting playspace for that balance compared to hexproof like you said.

If anyone is wondering why it's called "Canadian Threshold", it's because standard Threshold was just UG, but the variant splashed red to use Lightning Bolt...that's it. It took a good 30 minutes of research for me to find this out, because the Canadian Flag also has white as a pretty prominent color.
@igniteaxiom7 жыл бұрын
i totally agree with keeping shroud around for the exact reason that it's less powerful than hexproof, just as first strike is less powerful than doublestrike.

Shroud > Hexproof Yes Shroud has some downside and WotC thinks new players don't like cards with downsides, but what new players like even less is getting blown out by a Vine Mare with multiple auras

@angelusnielson71357 жыл бұрын
NOt unless you can give it haste.
@juliandukes71027 жыл бұрын
If you give it haste it attacks 4 times. It doesn't die until you try to remove a counter without there being one
@sagethegreat46807 жыл бұрын
It comes into play with 3 counters turn 1) can't attack 2) remove counter, then attack (2counters) turn 2) remove counter, then attack ( 1 counter left) turn 3) remove counter, then attack ( 0 counters left ) turn 4) no counters left so it gets sacrificed.
@kaiceps3825 жыл бұрын
@@sagethegreat4680 Exactly so it can attack 3 times?
@dragonmaster6134 жыл бұрын
@@sagethegreat4680 it loses counters via Upkeep, the first counter doesn't get removed till the turn after it hits the field. So it has 4 turns to attack with Fires of Yavimaya.

Wow, you know there arent many good Shroud creatures when Autumn Willow is on this list.
@bretterry83567 жыл бұрын
Lornext the key is that it was good in its day, compared to other cards at the time. Obviously better shroud cards like Lightning Greaves and Simic Sky Swallower have been printed since, but they weren't used in competitive play at the top levels of competition. These lists often reflect the metagame more than the strength of a particular card. A mediocre card in a popular deck scores higher than a great card in an unpopular deck.
@bastokrepublic6 жыл бұрын
I believe Autumn Willow was only used to satisfy the requirement that all decks contain at least 5 Homelands card. I guess it counts, but it shouldn't.
@shades2all7 жыл бұрын
personal opinion is that it should return since it is good at helping balance stuff now. however it should be plastered onto something with more more than just shroud but i don't think it will is the problem. it needs to be put on something that probably should clearly show that hexproof on said card would be broken but since it is shroud that cannot be achieved.
@monferno15 жыл бұрын
I honestly want to see shroud in some cases because I think that it can have a nice RP feeling ie it’s magic nullification being so powerful it can’t be turned off

Lightning Greaves has 3 points. One PT Top 8 and one GP Top 8. Being an EDH staple doesn't always mean you see a lot of action at the PTs and GPs.
@nlb1376 жыл бұрын
Greaves's staple status in EDH is more heavily influenced by the mechanics of EDH than most cards; you often want LG to slap on a commander ASAP to protect it. Basically, EDH you /always/ have a 'bomb' in hand (not really your hand, but still) worth the card to protect, while normal play gives a good chance the greaves will be a dead card because you don't have anything to put them on.

So what can't you do to get rid of permanents with hexproof/Shroud ?
@NizzahonMagic7 жыл бұрын
Target them with anything. The only difference between the two is that no player can target a creature with shroud, and only opponent's can't target a creature with hexproof.
@williamcline43207 жыл бұрын
So only if the card description says target the hexproof permanent is now safe. but if the description says all creatures get -2-2 then will the hexproof creature be safe?
@TheSquareOnes6 жыл бұрын
You've probably looked this up at some point in the last two months but hexproof and shroud only prevent targeting. Any abilities that don't specifically say they target a creature, like something that deals damage to all creatures or a spell that asks your opponent to choose one to sacrifice, will still work against them. It's not protection, it's more like they're difficult to "aim" at thematically.

You keep confusing fading with vanishing. Fading can exist on the battlefield with no counters. It only dies when you cannot remove a counter on your upkeep. So Blastoderm could attack 3 times on its own or 4 times if it was granted haste.
@Welverin7 жыл бұрын
Majin Vegeta Funny you mention that, because those are another set of mechanics where one replace the other because the new mechanic represented how people actually played the original.
