I’m hoping for the 1,000th episode (edit: or as a 100K subscriber celebration video; feels more fitting) you celebrate by doing the Top 10 Vintage Minus Power 9 for that Lobster viewer. Been rooting for him or her since he or she started making those comments and they’ve been commenting on every video the whole time, as far as I can tell. I watch every one of these and I don’t recall a single episode where I checked the comments and didn’t see them.

@@tym6217 It's never going to be a thing. Even for decks that actively *want* to discard their hand, most formats have much better discard outlets that can can do so pretty efficiently while also netting you value. Compare Lion's Eye Diamond which is so much better than One With Nothing it's not even funny - it does the same thing but *netting* you 3 mana instead of costing one. For One With Nothing to become a thing it would need to be reprinted into a format with a small card pool where there somehow is a deck that wants to dump its hand into the yard but zero other ways to do so efficiently, and that just doesn't seem likely to me.

You should play! MtGA is free, and WotC has gone on to say you're allowed to proxy outside of official tournaments (which you likely won't be doing in the beginning). Heck, even in official tournaments, there are some situations where you're expected to proxy (stickers and attractions when those were still tournament legal, playing with double-faced cards, if your cards are warped, etc.). I suggest finding your local game store (The Magic website has- or at least *should* still have- an LGS finder) and asking them when Aetherdrift prerelease is. Prereleases are some of my favorite events ever: A room full of Magic nerds all brimming to excitement for their first chance to play with the new cards. Once the timer starts and people start opening packs, you'll here pockets of excitement intermingled with "OH, no way!" and "Ooh, what'd you get?" as people open up cards for their pet decks or for modern or cool foils or for money. Everyone goes in on an equal playing field: Because everyone gets the same thing in their box- a spindown, a randomly selected promo, and six packs of the set- the playing field is somewhat leveled. You won't be beaten by someone just because they've spent more money on you. Skill differentials are still a thing, sure, but everyone is playing with the cards- and the new mechanics- for the first time. It's an environment that is explicitly casual and intended to be new player-friendly: One of the few times you'll be allowed to take back moves in a tournament. And besides, winning isn't everything- they're a LOAD of fun. Check it out!

Would be interesting to see the top 10 most difficult to cast spells or difficult to execute plays in general that see a lot of competitive usage regardless of how risky and inconsistent they are.

I like Ulamog's crusher. Slots into any deck easily cuz it's colorless, and Annihilator 2 is just powerful enough to make a huge impact without being a complete removal magnet right away

First I would have never thought so many 8/8 performed that well. Second is there any way where there could be a new scoreing system? like a top 8 in vintage should that not be worth more then a top 8 in standard? that way you would have more of a true power ranking and not just some odd meta game shift.
